Last year on January 2nd, the sott server was taken down due to the attacks from the abovetopsecret.com crowd... how many remember that?! It sort of set the tone for the whole rest of the year. It was a year of struggle against all kinds of forces. Of course, that attempt led to the big expose of the abovetopsecret crowd and their "Project Serpo" shenanigans. Before that happened, we could only conjecture that maybe they were running psyops programs... after that, it was a certainty.
Every year on New Year's we do the I Ching for the coming year. Just for Auld Lang Syne, let's have a look at last year's I Ching (that I sent out as an email to our discussion groups) before we look at this year's:

Notice that last year's was Hexagram 8... well, this year, we just happened to get Hexagram 9!! The following is the message I sent to the groups:It's almost 2007 - a number 9 year - and it ought to be interesting. It's a
year for finishing things and getting all the closets cleaned out so as to
be ready for new things in 2008. I have no idea what that will mean, but
Ark has just done our "annual I-Ching" so I think I will quote:
**From Richard Wilhelm's interpretation:
Hexagram #8 Holding Together: Union
The waters on the surface of the earth flow together wherever they can into
rivers and oceans. Hence the idea of union.
Holding together means mutual help.
The five yielding Yin lines of the hexagram hold together because they are
united and influenced by a man of strong will in the leading position. He
is the centre of union.
Moreover, this strong, guiding personality, in turn, holds together with the
others, finding in them the complement of his own nature. He ensures that
each member finds his true interest in holding together.
To become a centre of influence is a grave matter, fraught with great
responsibility. It requires greatness of spirit, consistency and strength.
Therefore, let him who would gather others about him, ask himself if he is
equal to the undertaking; for anyone attempting the task without a real
calling only makes confusion worse than if no union at all had taken place.
If one recognises the need for union, but one does not feel strong enough to
function as the centre, it is one's duty to join some other organic
fellowship.
Relationships are formed and established in accord with definite inner laws.
Common experiences strengthen these ties. When there is a real rallying
point, those at first hesitant gradually come in of their own accord. But
he who comes too late to share in these basic experiences must suffer if he
finds the door locked.
Two changing lines: 1 and 6.
1: Fundamental sincerity is the only proper basis for relationships. Like
a full earthen bowl: the content is everything, the empty form is nothing.
Sincerity shows itself not in clever words but through inner strength so
great that it has the power, even in a lowly place, to attract good fortune
to itself from without.
6: If we go on hesitating to pledge ourselves, we shall regret it. If the
beginning is not right, there is no hope of a right ending.
**Da Liu interpretation:
Pi means harmony, cooperation, or merging of separate parts. The upper
trigram is K'an, water, and the lower is K'un, earth: water on the earth.
The earth receives the water and the water moistens the earth. There is a
close bond between them, like the relationship between mother and child.
This hexagram is good fortune for those who can cooperate and act with
sincerity. It is favorable for love and marriage. For business, it means
prosperity and good fortune, if the manager is honest and forthright. Where
there is mutual trust, undertakings will be successful, but trust develops
only when people act guilelessly.
The judgment:
Union: good fortune.
The prediction for one attempting union
Should be greatness, continuation, and constancy;
No blame.
If one hesitates, then joins late: misfortune.
Changing lines:
1: Union with confidence. No blame. Full of confidence, like a bowl full
of water. Good fortune in the end.
6: Union without a leader: Misfortune. This is a time of trouble and
difficulties: people cannot get along with their friends, and they may
suffer from poor health as well. At work one is liable to meet a dangerous
situation with no support from his friends. Without help from the school
administration, the student will find it difficult to gain recognition.
Regarding this last possibility, we must remember this: "Where there is
mutual trust, undertakings will be successful, but trust develops only when
people act guilelessly."
Last year was a number 9 year... number 9 years are generally difficult and
it proved to be so for all of us individually here and as a group. This
upcoming year is a number 1 year ...
Number one is creative, primal power, light-giving, active, strong, firm in
spirit with unrestricted energy and durability.
How this will manifest through this group and our work is, interestingly,
Hexagram number 9: The Taming Power of the Gentle.
***Richard Wilhelm Interpretation***
The wind blows across heaven: the power of gentleness, restraining and
taming.
The wind gathers the clouds, the rising breath of The Creative. It makes
them grow great, but lacks the power to turn them to rain.
The hexagram represents a time when great clouds bring the promise of
moisture and blessing to the land; but no rain falls.
When the strong is temporarily held in leash by the weak, only by gentleness
can the outcome be successful.
In human terms, it represents a servitor who gently restrains a domineering
ruler.
The power of gentleness has success:
Although it can give no rain,
It drives and shapes great clouds.
We are reminded of the time in Chinese history when King Wen served in the
court of the reigning tyrant, Chou Hsin. The time for action on a large
scale had not yet arrived. King Wen could only keep the tyrant somewhat in
check by gentle persuasion.
The situation is not unfavorable. There is the prospect of ultimate
success, but there are still obstacles in the way and we can only take
preparatory measures.
Only through the small means of friendly persuasion can we exert any
influence. The time has not yet come for sweeping measures. However, we may
be able, to a limited extent, to act as a restraining, subduing influence.
The trigrams' attributes: inner strength with outer gentleness show us the
way. To carry out our purpose we need firm determination within and
gentleness and adaptability in external relations.
As the gentle wind shapes the clouds,
So the wise man refines his bearing.
The wind can indeed drive together the clouds in the sky; yet, being nothing
but air, without solid body, it does not produce great or lasting effects.
So also, in times when one can produce no great effect in the outer world,
one should seek to shape the expression of one's being in small ways: one
should seek to refine the outward aspect of one's nature.
No Changing Lines!
**Da Lui interpretation**
Taming the Small Powers implies rest, storage, and preparation. The upper
trigram is Sun, wind, the lower is Ch'ien, heave or sky, while the nuclear
trigrams are Li, the sun, and Tui, clouds: the wind blows and clouds
accumulate in the sky, covering up the sun. It is going to rain, but no
yet.
This situation symbolizes the preparation which precedes a new development;
after battle - hexagram 8 - comes unification - hexagram 8 - and then rest
and preparation.
Hsiao Ch'u is favorable for new undertakings. Although there may be
confusion and difficulty, one should be patient, for success will come in
the end. For love and marriage, this hexagram indicates temporary trouble
and suspicion which will eventually be resolved.
