Healthy eating declared a sign of serious psychological disorder

Re: Health Food Junkie - Obsession with dietary perfection

I think the guy who wrote that piece is kind of ridiculous. Many of his ideas did not make too much sense to me.

when you are eating healthy in order to feel physically better, to think better, to take care of yourself, then that is not obsessive at all. There is people that probably get obsessed with eating how they see to be healthy. Well okay... but eating healthy does not make one obsessive.. it doesn't mean they would be better off sharing a pizza with friends. People who are obsessed as he describes it, with eating healthy, probably face a variety of neurological / emotional issues which makes them obsessive. maybe this is because they are not actually eating what is right for their body lol.

Do you make exceptions on your diet, when you meet friends or something else where you have to leave your home?

I try to avoid the bad stuff, without making a fuss of my diet, but sometimes especially on family birthday party's, I come at a loss to explain, why I can´t eat all this wonderfull
creamy tortes and cakes, and to avoid stress and discussions, I complain I have an intolerance.

Definitely there are people who are extreme in their implementation of eating the right
way, and if your whole live is about eating, there could be a problem.

What do you think about this article and do you agree with the author?

As I read this phrase:

“ If she took her four medications, she also had a live”

my first thought was “ but for what length of time ?”

This article let me back with the impression that the abdication of certain foods is limiting the quality of live, I´ve experienced it exactly the other way around ( but everybody is different), maybe the distress must be strong enough, to understand the necessity for a change in ones own nutrition. ( Maybe there could be something like identification with eating or with foods, what it makes difficult to live without them ?)
Altogether I think to find a good balanced nutrition and don´t fall into the extreme is important.

Only my thoughts

Have you ever heard of Orthorexia Nervosa? Its an eating disorder where the person is overly focused on healthy eating. Might be something looking into. I found this article doing a quick google search: _http://www.mirror-mirror.org/orthorexia-nervosa.htm

That's what is being discussed on this thread. Did you read it first before replying? Frankly I think that's a ridiculous assertion designed to alienate those who wish to avoid the GMO-laced poison that is thrust onto mainstream America and the rest of the world.

Hi, TomGreene. Welcome to the forum. It is customary to post and intro in the Newbies forum telling how you found the site and how much of the material you've read. This helps us know where you're coming from and interact better. You can have a look on that board and see how others have done it. :)

Yep! I think that they are trying to keep people from looking into the independent research that shows just how we are being hoodwinked by the big-ag industrial complex. Many people don't want to be labeled as having a mental disorder so they won't rock the boat. Seems that there are people all over trying to keep those who can actually think in line.
