HEAVY LIGHTNING STORM AND RAIN IN SOUTHERN CA

July 22nd we had something of the same sort of violent storm. Here is a quote from our local newspaper:

"Widespread power outages darkened homes and businesses this morning after hours of nearly constant lightning strikes pounded the area. The thunderstorm dumped more than 4 inches of rain on Columbia in less than 10 hours, causing flash flooding and road closures."

"Sipprill said he did not have statistics available for lightning strikes but believed those were also higher than normal. "When you see a lot of lightning activity involved in storms, it’s generally due to strong conductive motion," he said. "It means things are very turbulent up above the freezing level in the atmosphere.""

No one in the house slept from 1am to 8am. It was frightening and stressful to say the least.

Well just to chime in, for the past maybe 3-4 weeks or so here in Massachusetts we had *very* intense thunderstorms - but also a really unusual amount during the entire summer. Rain was the hardest I've ever seen in my life, it actually flooded our basement twice within a span of 2 weeks, and our basement has never been flooded before. Thunder/lightning is now becoming a normal sight. But this is definitely not normal, I've never seen so much rain come down so hard. Freak storms have been coming out of nowhere one right after the other, nonstop. This has also been observed by people not paying attention to the signs, there's just general amazement at what's going on with the weather - and when sleeping people start noticing that something is really weird with the weather, that's saying something.

Here is the link to an article about the extreme rains of Arizona by Grand Canyon. 8 inches in a couple of days is an Enormous amount of rain to fall.

Then, the very day after Poland signed the agreement for the U.S. missile shield, they had the worst tornadoes in their history.

SOTT published an article reporting this unusual event.

In France tornadoes are rare and usually small. From 1680 to 1988 107 tornadoes (force 2 or higher) were listed on the French territory. About 15 force 4 tornadoes (like in Haumont) happened in france since 1680 (less than 5 every century)

In this BBC article you can see a video showing the very serious damages made by Haumont tornado.

In addition, today (August 17th) torrential rains flooded Ireland :

As around three inches of rain plunged onto the region, a landslide caused a train to derail in Co Laois and several sporting fixtures on both sides of the border had to be called off.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said rivers had burst their banks, two bridges collapsed and 37 major roads were shut down throughout Saturday.
