Help for my second child

Hi Osmose,

here you can read about herbal remedies and watch a short video about foot massage in case of night terror.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nn5FhYmslOE

do the massage rotating your fingers always to the left (this is to reduce the upward flaring heat) at each web between the toes and also massage the area around the ankles, knees, hip, neck and wrists, in both directions, to stimulate the energy flow. As a rule, the energy is stagnant mostly at the joints. It's a good idea to reduce sugar, and fried foods, dairy.

Maybe try a moderate warm bath of 20 minutes with baking soda(100 g), unrefined salt with iodine added(100 g),and Epsom salt
(100 g), for a whole bathtube. This has a calming, detoxifying effect.

And who knows, put a large scarf of pure silk around and over his bed. Silk protects.

I had this happened with a little girl who asked me to take away her bad dreams, so I made a "dream-catcher " from strings and feathers and I told her a story about me going to the woods and asking the birds for feathers to protect her during the night. As soon as she got this on the wall, her nightmares subsided and after a month she dismantled the catcher (she didn't need it any more, plus was curious...)

I try to think of other possible ways , but is not easy to recommend anything without seeing first.

Megan, we are sure that he never has been abused. My wife is not ready to switch my son on ketogenic diet. So I don’t want to be in confrontation with her.
...

That is good. Unfortunately, although trauma frequently arises from abuse, it can occur for other reasons. I can't give you a reference off the top of my head but this comes up in the recommended reading. My hunch at this point, however, is that the problem is something else.

You are staring into the heart of the problem. Many of the acute health problems that the present generation of young children are experiencing are likely to be traceable to some degree to cumulative epigenetic damage from several generations of ancestors eating toxic food, taking toxic medications, using toxic household products, etc. You can learn a little about this by searching for "Pottenger's Cats" in the forum. And what your parents did in the months before you were conceived can directly affect your childrens' epigenomes. This doesn't exactly help with selling consumer products, and you are not likely to hear about it through mass media channels (though it's possible -- this has a firm scientific basis).

The problem is, the system is set up so that the path of least resistance is to keep on doing the things that cause bad health, and that cumulatively weaken successive generations. You have to swim upstream to do anything about it, and you may take a lot of flack for it. I would highly recommend that you become personally familiar with the issues -- not just what you see in the forum -- before you even try it, because it is a difficult path to follow.

Think of a cattle pen, or better yet a butchering facility. The path of least resistance is up the ramp and to your death. That is how the system is set up for modern humanity.

Unfortunately, if you don't remove grains and dairy, you are skipping one of the most common sources of health problems in children. It is hard to advise you if you don't start there, other than to say to read and study all that you can about this.

I am sorry to read that your son is affected by some troubles osmose78, and I really hope that you being on the forum will help to find some answers. I also think the Laura/Ailén's idea with the stone, could be something to take into account and which cannot be exclude of any other way you would choose (or many combined); Both can be joined in an effort for helping your son to pass through this. :)

As Megan wrote, there is a strong possibility for bad health caused by diet and the suggestion you made to try to propose a two weeks test period, seems a good one to me, and most important, it could be the best answer for your son. Just a thought. My own experience on this is rather positive to say the least. But a young kid, today, has not exactly the same cumulative genetic than someone who is older enough to be a grand-mother. Even if each Megan's word has a good reason to be there, I put in bold some things which came to my mind by reading the entire thread:

May I suggest you to read (or read again) this article published on Sott: Le régime paléolithique revisité. You also could be highly interested by the links left into the article itself and also into a comment of the article if case you missed them.

Thanks a lot to each of you. :)

We have started to explore the solution about dreams. My wife has taken minutes to ensure him about good dreams and no nightmares. At his awakening, he was happy to have dreamed, and not nightmare. So we will continue this way hoping reduce the frequency of nightmares and finally them.

After a negociation, my wife is open to try the diet if dream-catcher technics doesn’t work.

Megan and MK Scarlett, I have red the article “Le régime paléolithique revisité” (paleolithic diet re-examined) with a great pleasure. This article decided me to transit :). Since my transition, I never have felt so good in my mind and my body.

I thank you all again for your support and explanations. Thanks to your advices, I think we have found an answer matching the needs of our son.

I am glad to hear that! Keep in mind that when you leave the well-trodden, path of least resistance, you will not be able to rely on "authorities" to show you the way. The authoritative information contains even more errors and traps than the "alternative" info, but the authorities present theirs as if every word were true while the alternative sources are usually pretty quick to admit that they don't have all the answers.

You will have to deal with your own tendencies to want to go with what seems sure, and you will need to put in the time and effort to learn all you can. I can tell you that people everywhere in the alternative health communities are experiencing a lot of cognitive dissonance, as they discover that much of what they thought they knew about health, nutrition, exercise, and healthcare was wrong.

It's a bit too much for a lot of people, and I have noticed that the resistance to eliminating grains (and gluten) is especially strong. I listened to an online health conference recently (Village Green Network Healthy Life Summit) and I was astonished to see how many knowledgeable alternative health advocates were defending grain consumption while at the same time describing symptoms of grain intolerance without having any clue as to the connection! What they had in common was being involved with the Weston A. Price Foundation, which says grains are OK under certain conditions. This "authoritative" information apparently overrides common sense, for them.

That's what you -- and your family -- are up against. You really have to learn about your own tendencies and behavior if you are to stay on track.

Hello everybody

I come back to write an update of the situation.

Thanks to your advices and methods, he sleep better now. He made a nightmare wednesday night with spiders and dinosaurs. He said too that he felt something on his head. We will may use the soul priest if it would come in increasing again.

His incontinence get better too thanks to an advice of an urologist compeling him to to go to toilets at refering points within a day. It seems to be mechanical and we have to perform an ultrasound scan in october.

Concerning his behavior, he is still unconsistant and nervous for the major part.

My wife is aware of the benefits of the paleo diet but is still not ready to switch my son on. The positive point is that she buy and consume food differently than before with seeing the effects on me. So, wait and see.

Thanks again to all :). I will probably post un update after the ultrasound scan.

Thank you for updating osmose78, it is great to read that your son already feels a bit better. I would say, step by step, and a paleo diet could be a good way to reduce his behavior, due to all testimonies here on the forum which referred to. The ulstrasound scan will surely be an important step, at least to know if there is nothing else than mechanical. ;)

Hi osmose78, I'm glad to hear that your son is feeling better. Thank you for your good wishes for my daughter and me. :) She's so much better now. It's like a day and night.
When my daughter had similar problems to your son (except, there was no bed wetting), a definite change had occurred when I started giving her probiotics, magnesium citrate and fish oil every day. Even if your wife is still not ready to switch to a healthy diet eliminating sugar, milk and milk products and gluten, these three simple things can help your child a lot, osit, but you have to be consistent. It needs to be adopted as a daily regimen for a long time, until you change your child's diet. That's from my personal experience. You might also consider testing him for candida, especially, if he was given antibiotics at some point in his life or(and) was born through Cesarian section. And deal with that.

There is a definite brain-gut connection. Too much bad bacteria in the gut can effect one's personality, http://www.sott.net/article/226351-Knowing-it-in-your-gut-is-real-The-state-of-your-immune-system-and-your-gut-bacteria-influences-your-personality and http://www.sott.net/article/226351-Knowing-it-in-your-gut-is-real-The-state-of-your-immune-system-and-your-gut-bacteria-influences-your-personality cause behavior problems, aversion or cravings to some foods, and yes, as it seems here, bed wetting! _http://www.realfoodwholehealth.com/2012/03/a-commonly-missed-cause-for-bedwetting-is-the-current-treatment-correct/

From this article "A Commonly Missed Cause for Bedwetting- Is The Current Treatment Correct?" we read:

But, wait! This is a post about bedwetting…so why are we talking about…poop? Well, actually bedwetting is very much related to poop- more specifically the lack of regular pooping (or fully eliminating even when “going often”)- you know, constipation!

constipation CAN cause bedwetting and accidents- it is a commonly missed cause for these problems, especially in children. And, many children with chronic constipation are misdiagnosed because they are going to the bathroom often and don’t seem to have other symptoms of constipation. I suspect, however, that there actually would be more symptoms, just not the classic constipation symptoms that mainstream medicine narrowly defines.

However, the true root cause of most chronic constipation is due to a damaged gut- when an imbalance of healthy gut microbiota leads to a porous (leaky) gut lining.

More on that you can read in "The Real Reason Your Kid Wets the Bed" _http://www.slate.com/articles/life/family/2012/03/bed_wetting_the_simple_cause_your_doctor_probably_missed_.html

Accidents and bed-wetting have the same root cause: chronically holding poop or pee or both. A rectal poop mass squishes the bladder and messes with its nerves; holding pee thickens the bladder wall, shrinking the bladder’s capacity to hold urine and triggering hiccuplike contractions.

And here _http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3315689 is one scientific study done on the topic " Relevance of constipation to enuresis, urinary tract infection and reflux. A review."

In conclusion, I would like to suggest a good probiotic supplement, magnesium citrate (both are sold in powder form; when you mix it with water, it becomes a drink very similar to lemonade and a child usually will drink it with no problem) and fish oil http://www.sott.net/article/248924-Emotion-Detectives-Program-Uncovers-Ways-to-Fight-Off-Youth-Anxiety-and-Depression

I hope your son will recover soon. Best wishes to you and your family. :)

Thank you very much MK Scarlett and Olesya for you kindness and advices.

I discussed yesterday evening about probiotics and magnesium citrate with my wife and she seems to be open for the use. I don't know the moment we would start.

Olesya,

In personnal view, you seem to be very kind :). This is good to see human feelings.

I hope to you and everyone the best.

I just wanted to add this recent article published on French Sott: http://fr.sott.net/article/16400-Psychosoma-Guerir-des-maladies-mentales-en-soignant-l-intestin-ce-deuxieme-cerveau which could answer some questions to your son's issues. In English: The gut is our second brain.

Here for the English article: http://www.theverge.com/2013/8/21/4595712/gut-feelings-the-future-of-psychiatry-may-be-inside-your-stomach
Her parents were running out of hope. Their teenage daughter, Mary, had been diagnosed with a severe case of obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), as well as ADHD. They had dragged her to clinics around the country in an effort to thwart the scary, intrusive thoughts and the repetitive behaviors that Mary felt compelled to perform. Even a litany of psychotropic medications didn’t make much difference. It seemed like nothing could stop the relentless nature of Mary’s disorder.

Their last hope for Mary was Boston-area psychiatrist James Greenblatt. Arriving at his office in Waltham, MA, her parents had only one request: help us help Mary.

Greenblatt started by posing the usual questions about Mary’s background, her childhood, and the onset of her illness. But then he asked a question that no psychiatrist ever had: How was Mary’s gut? Did she suffer digestive upset? Constipation or diarrhea? Acid reflux? Had Mary’s digestion seemed to change at all before or during her illness? Her parents looked at each other. The answer to many of the doctor’s questions was, indeed, “Yes.”

That’s what prompted Greenblatt to take a surprising approach: besides psychotherapy and medication, Greenblatt also prescribed Mary a twice-daily dose of probiotics, the array of helpful bacteria that lives in our gut. The change in Mary was nothing short of miraculous: within six months, her symptoms had greatly diminished. One year after the probiotic prescription, there was no sign that Mary had ever been ill.

Just a thought, fwiw.
