Holiday greetings

The Living Force
I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Winter Solstice! Also, I thought it might be cool to see how people from around the world wish each other happy holidays and maybe even share how they spend the holidays or traditions they have.

Happy Holidays to you as well truth seeker. I'm not much of a holiday type person, but my family is Jewish, and we celebrate Channukah with the lighting of the Menorah for the 8 days, as well as by putting up a Channukah bush, which looks extremely familiar to a Christmas Tree  but with Stars of Davids, and Jewish type ornaments.

For the first day, we invited some friends of the family over, only one of which was Jewish, the rest are from different cultures and religion, and had a big dinner party. So it was really fun, because it wasn't oriented to Judaism, just a fun time to celebrate the holidays in general. We'll usually play boardgames or something, so its a good time for parents and kids.

Happy holidays to everyone!. Here in Mexico people are mostly catholic and the celebrations are related to the catholic tradition although there are some other special traditions. For example, here in my town there is a carnival called "El paseo del Pendon" wich is a gathering of all the regions of the state, it is a multicoloured and very cheerful event where every region shows their typical costumes and their typical dances and music too, very entertaining. There you have a link if you want to look:

And in my family, we used to reunite in my home to dinner and singalong at the piano, we love to decorate the house with lights , broke the piñatas and eat some candy (though this year i don´t know if i will, because i´m trying to start the Diet). There are some catholic celebrations called "Las posadas" which are sort of celebrations for Jesuschrist birth, and though i´m no longer into ortodoxic Chiristian traditions i use to enjoy it because my family and friends. As Laura says in some Chistmas threadhttp://www.cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?topic=7814.0 of a couple years ago:
I think that Winter Solstice is a great time to really pander to the inner child! Play games, have fun, play with toys, and just act like a kid. It relieves stress and makes being a responsible adult and objective observer of reality more appreciated.
So, Happy Winter Solstice to all of you!!

Happy Holidays to everyone :D

- Hey Deedlet

That’s really cool. Did you draw that on the computer? I guess with a graphic tablet. A mouse would be pretty hardcore.

Which program did you use?

It’s really cute.

- As for me our family just do what we do each year. Come together and eat each other food we prepared for together. It’s all right.

On mine part. I am having a barbeque this week. I also really want to build a igloo. Next to that I heard that the thalys, the train which starts in Amsterdam and finish in Paris has given an upgrade. Instead of traveling 4 hours it’s just 2.30 now. So for me it’s really attractive to take it. That’s all I got planned. Who knows what happens between those.

That is really cool artwork deedlet!

It's neat that you want to build an igloo bjorn, have you ever done so before and is it difficult? I'm also thinking of having a barbeque around the new year's perhaps.

Also from me: Happy Holidays to everyone! :D

I'm also coming together with some family of mine, having the traditional meal of red cabbage, green cabbage,
goose from a near-by farm and dumplings. As my family knows I'm eating different, I'll only be having red cabbage
(because the gren cabbage is made with bacon) and fish. But that's gonna be delicious! :D

Enjoy yourselves, your (hopefully healthy) meals and the time spent with your loved ones!

Happy holydais everyone!

That sounds like a very interesting idea bjorn. I'll borrow truth seeker's words here: "have you ever done so before and is it difficult?"

Nice images Tyke. Very different from what I would normally associate with Christmas.

Me and partner will be travelling back to Portugal where we're from, and have a couple of hectic days seeing family and friends who live in different cites, and that mostly, haven't seen us for the past year. So, a lot of catching up to do. It will be exciting and somehow different, as quite a few of my friends and my partner's sister had babies this year, it almost feels like they all got together and agreed to have babies in 2009!

In Christmas eve, we always have baked cod fish (my father makes it absolutely delicious!) and for Christmas day, stuffed Turkey. I'm really hoping that all will work out with food, as I have changed my diet and there will be plenty of evil goodies being served...
And for new year's, a nice retreat at a friend's country house in a village located somewhere in the mountains, which has a fire place! Boy, do I miss them..

Wish everyone a wonderful time!

Hi truth seeker and Getrudes.

No I never build a igloo.

I guess that if you just make some partly round blocks from snow and than throw some water on them and wait a while the bricks will become pretty strong. If you just make enough of them and line them up into a circle and than continue to place them more towards to each other till you fill the gap, well than I hope it will hold.

- Yeah having a barbecue in the winter really is underestimated. Having a big campfire next to it would also make it cozy. But don't be to reckless as for the what the weather is here. You easily get a cold.

Although I'm not prone to colds, I can attest that the vitamin c really works wonders! If you get a chance and it's not too much trouble, I'd love to see a pic of it.

a Happy Winter Solstice to everyone from Georgia, USA. Being in the 'bible belt' surrounded by a conservative Christian environment, I guess the main traditions are to decorate the house a bit with reds, greens, and lights and to have a decorated, lit Christmas tree. On Christmas day, family gets together to swap gifts and have baked ham, green bean casserole, homemade potato salad, deviled eggs, and stuff like that.

Many families with children will do the gift exchanging on Christmas eve and just do the visiting and eating on Christmas day. Christmas day being on a Friday, there'll be people attending their churches before and after Christmas.

My and my wife's biggest problem is usually figuring out how to see all the people she wants to see on her side of the family that live 50 or more miles away, while having issues with physical health and stamina and shared responsibilities to my ailing father and (step)mother, but we'll manage.

Also, we offer greetings/goodbyes by saying "Happy Holidays", or "Merry Christmas", or something like that.

How did you say you spend the holidays and what traditions you have? :D

- Hi truth seeker.

Well I was reckless this week and got the cold but I am recovering. I Just feel a bit weak mostly that's all. So thanks I will try vitamin-c. - as for the igloo I give it a attempt. It's really just improvisation. But yeah sure I make some photo's.

I don't know that I have any specific traditions... Some years I did the usual American stuff and others I just wanted to spend alone. Once, I volunteered at a soup kitchen and that was really nice. As for this year, we're going to visit my boyfriend's youngest sister and will spend Christmas eve together just enjoying the season. What I really enjoy this time of year though are the lights (and the food!).

It's interesting spending it in another country and seeing their traditions.

Oh, I also like all the Christmas cooking programs and cartoons!

Bjorn- Definitely get the powder form, I felt something coming on last week and after two separate doses it was gone overnight!

Sadly I can't take credit for this one. It was sent to me by a friend and I loved it so I thought I'd share it with all of you.

But I do draw some myself with Manga Studio EX- and a digital tablet.

Haven't had much time to draw recently but I did post a sample of a drawing I did here a while back
and this one , same program.

It's a great program if you're into drawing manga, but you definitely need a digital pad to go with it. but I'm getting :offtopic:

As for me, I'm going to my mom's for x-mas eve dinner, should be fun. :D
