I hope everyone had a very nice xmas...
Santa was good to us at our house and the kids are playing happily with their new toys. We have our big dinner on xmas eve and open our presents to each other that night. Then xmas morning Santa comes and leaves toys for the kids under the tree. We have breakfast and then go visiting.
One of our most important ceremonies is Wopila or giveaway so we all really enjoy xmas even though most of my friends and family are not Christian or marginally Christian. Most of the presents we exchange are either things we have made or have had already and are ready to pass along. So in a way giveaway is just another way to redistribute stuff. It's good too because we are taught not to get to attached to any kind of material things.
Last night my friend gave me her old coffee pot and some coffee which was really nice and I gave her a shawl someone gifted me several years ago and a few books I thought she would like. My oldest daughter loves to sew and she make a quilt for a new baby and knitted some scarves and made some rag dolls for the little ones. Another good friend made me a necklace with a little carved salmon on it for prosperity. HA HA! So the stores don't make much off us during the holidays... It's really neat when you gift someone something like a shawl or a blanket and see it make the rounds over the years..sometimes it even finds it way back to you!
We ate Turkey and some deer shoulder meat cooked up in a chile sauce, cornbread stuffing, feral pig sausage, greens with ham hocks, roasted pumpkin, dried corn soup, potatoes and apple pie.
If I don't eat for a week I'll probably still be full.
merry xmas to all sending smoke and prayers to all of you this morning...
