Hi!! I just wanted to share something that happend to me yesterday! Something brief , but with great impact on me.

I was going to a friends house, I was on a taxi, there was another taxi next to mine and on the back seat there was a mother and her son. The little boy saw me and smiled at me, also he wave his hand like saying hello.
I was not having feelings, I was feeling detached from myself, but that little kid waving at me made me smile from within and It literally make my day.

It amazing just how one simple thing can change your day and mood! :)

Yep! And the relationship between your topic title and your experience perfectly relates to the way I would have described that situation too. :)

I was at a grocery store yesterday, waiting in line purchasing paper towels and other simple things. The gal in front of me looked back at me because the cute 6 month old(ish) baby was smiling and laughing at me because of the funny faces I was entertaning her with. She noticed amd said "hey Gwen, say hi!" and the baby Gwen put both of her hands up and giggled. I said "oh your cute baby's name is Gwen?" She said yes. I told her how my six year old girl's name is the same. I added that my other girl was named Evelyn. She said "holy cow, that's the other name we were considering!!"

Just made my day very bright, and we wished each other well and that was that.

So yes, I think I know how you feel. :) I love these kinds of situations!! Really cool.

I drove home with a smile on my face, even with lots of traffic. :)

I really enjoy interacting with children as well as just being in their presence. For example, whenever I am on line at the grocery store behind a small child I really enjoy it when he/she looks at me without that negative self-consciousness program. As I just look at him/her with a pleasant face, I get a bit of a thrill when I notice the eyes crinkle and twinkle as if my spirit of joy is somehow seen or recognized.

Sometimes I think I just live for that! :D

Hi EGVG,

thanks for sharing, I also know how you feel. I've been experiencing many situations in which I was either sucked-up in all-day life things or 'feeling down' because of the state of the world and where it is heading, and a smile, giggle or laugh from a baby, toddler or child would lighten me up inside. Like Dawn, I also love these situations. :)

I can so relate, Bud! :)

That's funny, this morning the little boy next door was playing in his van, and knocked at the window to get my attention. Then he gave me a huge grin and wave. He's such a funny little character. That also made my day. Love animals and kids!
By the way, I find it so uplifting to hear other people's funny and cute stories here - rescued kittens, a smiling kid, a happy old lady. Keep 'em coming I say.

Me as well. I love it when a kid or baby smiles at me. It's like me as a baby smiling at another human being who is not so concentrated on whatever they are doing to 'notice me.' Kids are all about that. They are like "HEY, here I am, see me? I am also here." They seem to realize I'm a mommy, not just to my own children, but I treat kids and babys as if I were an aunt or a sister, no matter who they may be.

Their pure happiness is a breath of fresh air. It's at if whatever happened that day, no longer really matters. Smiles in the 'now' is awesome. :)

The boy in my childrens' daycare is new, he is very sad his mom is gone for the day. When I come in he looks at me with the most sad look ever. I just want to hug him and tell him everything is going to be ok. :(

Reminds me of something that happened a few months ago. I was driving around town on errands. At a traffic light I came up directly behind a school bus. There were maybe 3 kids, about 6 years old I guess, looking at me through back window of the bus. One of them waved at me. I waved back and within seconds there were perhaps a dozen kids smiling, waving and jumping up and down.

Their spontaneous friendliness truly brightened my day.

Thanks for your wonderful stories. They brightened my day.

The story I'd like to tell does not involve children, but an older man. It was the beginning of a two hour drive to my mom's house this past Monday. I was not rushing just enjoying the drive when I came upon this construction zone. One lane was closed off and it was this man's job to make sure that no one passed him when traffic was coming in the other direction. There he sat in the hot sun. He was constantly wiping his forehead of the sweat pouring down, he looked miserable. I was there about 6-7 minutes and we did not make eye contact. As it finally was safe for him to let us pass, he stood up and turned the stop sign he held to slow. As I passed I gave him a big smile and held my fingers up in the peace sign. The man's disposition immediately changed and let out a big smile and waved to me as I passed. Just wanted to give him a thank you for the work he was doing and continued on my way to take my mom to a doctor's appointment. It was not meant to make me feel good, but for him. Maybe he payed it forward :)

When driving, I hold an open hand of friendship (wave) out my front window to many, when eye contact is involved. And many acknowledge to wave back. Many do not. Methinks it's a hillbilly thing that happens in the hollers I grew up with. Be it known that the car you have, there is a person who waves in friendship. This is a small item, but perhaps means much to others and me...

It's uplifting to read all of this. It's a reminder to me of my own moments, particularly as they occur at work.

I'm thinking of a very busy afternoon that found me bustling around everywhere. I was utterly absorbed (or it seemed to me I was, at any rate) in my list of projects, walking along near our animal care center (I work at a Zoo) when I zoomed up behind a couple walking with their young child in a stroller. The adults were absorbed and busily chatting away, but their little girl in the stroller was watching me intently as I approached. She was working on a bottle of juice. As I was about to pass she by she looked up at me and grinned around her bottle. She stopped me in my tracks. I smiled back and we both raised our hands at the same time for a wave. She was still grinning as I left.

A few hours later, I was near the exit taking care of some maintenance issues when, lo and behold, there came the couple with their little girl in tow once again. They were on their way out. The little girl noticed me and started grinning again. She waved to me as they left. It was quite the experience.
