So last night I was late leaving from work and it was getting dark. There was a truck in front of me and the traffic light ahead of me was red and the cars were stopping. I then hear tires squeal and the truck bumped into the car ahead of it. I had a dream last night that my breaks were wearing, which I've noticed because they're squealing.
While that fender-bender last night wasn't a big deal, this morning going to work I was turning and the light was green and I wasn't the first few cars to go into the turn. And I heard the car turning in the lane next to me beep and didn't see that there was a car going straight into our two turning lanes, even though the light had been green for a long while, and I was a few cars back from the first. So I quickly braked and we had enough space for this rogue car to come through. And so this person in no way "simply ran a red light by a second or two."
So luckily I heard the car beep, and I think I would have seen the car coming, but I only had one car's space between us and I don't think this person was aware at all. And I had quite the adrenaline rush. I think of the symbolism, almost crashing, having someone in front of me have a fender bender, and then a car almost hitting mine. An economic crash, or "just" a vehicle crash? In any event, I plan to get the brakes checked because they seem to be wearing down. And just trying to be vigilant with what seems like some signs. Any additional thoughts? Thanks for reading.
