A 46-year-old man was attacked by a shark Sunday, prompting temporary beach closures in Del Mar, authorities said.

The attack occurred around 9 a.m. Sunday about 100 yards offshore from the Beach Safety Center at 17th Street, according to the city.

ā€œThe victim was transported by ambulance to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with injuries that are significant but not believed to be life-threatening. The injuries included bites to the torso, left arm and hand,ā€ the city reported.

Lifeguards temporarily closed beaches for swimming and surfing one mile in both directions from the incident, roughly from Sixth Street to North Beach. A water closure will remain in effect until at least 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The victim was in a group of about a dozen swimmers who meet regularly to train in Del Mar, city officials said.

Last week a shark attack closed beaches in San Clemente.

Woman's 2023 death was first fatal black bear attack on a human in California records, officials say
June 6, 2024
DOWNIEVILLE, Calif. (AP) ā€” A woman found dead last year in a mountain community was the victim of the first documented fatal black bear attack on a human in California, authorities said.

The death occurred in Downieville, a tiny town in the Sierra Nevada, two hours northeast of the state capital, Sacramento TV station KCRA reported Wednesday.

On Nov. 8, Sierra County sheriffā€™s deputies checking on the welfare of a resident who hadnā€™t been seen for a few days found a broken door and bear scat on the porch, Sheriff Mike Fisher told the station. Inside were the remains of Patrice Miller, 71.

ā€œIt appeared that the bear had probably been there several days and had been feeding on the remains,ā€ Fisher said.

It was initially believed that Miller died before the arrival of the bear and that it may have been drawn by the scent.

Meanwhile, there were many reports from concerned citizens about a bear repeatedly returning to the house. A state depredation permit was issued and a bear was trapped on the property and euthanized, according to Fisher.

Then came the findings of Millerā€™s autopsy, which were first reported by The Mountain Messenger, a local weekly newspaper.

Here is a article on how a woman fended the attack from the street dogs. Street dogs are always part of Indian streets, chasing fast moving vehicles is nothing new. But, this level of attack mode is new. probably all sorts of attachment stuff going on here.
