Interesting test for Facial super recognisers

That was interesting. I can easily recognized the details of their faces, even when they move from frontal to profile views. But, they're all white men. I wonder if I could do the same with different races and genders?

That's what I was thinking. After about the third one they all started to blur together. I got a 9, which is not bad I guess. I wonder if my score would be better with black faces? Wow, lots of super recognisers here :) - my score was 11 as well; and like Chu, I can remember faces better than names.

Zadius Sky, amazing score of 14 :) ! - i guess you should try the 40 minute one to further test your abilities. I have not tried the second test, and would be interesting to read feedback from Forum members who have tried the longer test.

My score is 10/14.
It would be interesting to see how much affect hour of the day to test result, for example, early in the morning, afternoon, late evening ...

Hi, i got 12 surprisingly since the last set was hard and so i relied on intuition.
I too am remembering faces better than names or voice.

I think identifiying peoples on faces is connected to the dominant "race" where you live, and also the particular interest you have on them. For example i was born in madagascar, so i was used to malagasy faces (with mixes of african and asian), when i came in france when i was 11, i had trouble naturaly with white faces but got used to it and still i had no difficulty differenciate a malagasy from an asian or a black. But couldn't differenciate a black from africa from a black from carribean or asian from an other asian but later on with my interest with music, hihhop and later asian anime pop culture, i begun to differenciate. Now i could even tell a person race from ther profile even if i don't see there eyes of from behind their back.

Right now I live in Paris, i see even more different type of peoples and faces. And sometime i would recall a memory of someone i met in the past because of the similar face and even smell/deduce his personnality or what type of people, from my experience with the past people i met.

i got a 9 out of 14 also but will try the other test when i am more rested, tired tonite!
And will let you know how it went!
Thank you that was challenging!

I did the longer test yesterday afternoon. I was tired, things were going on around me (kitchen work, music, my husband asking me questions) and I was having a beer. I did it this way on purpose in order to see how a real life situation might work.

Some faces were very similar. And one portion was not faces, it was guitars! In the memorization portion, the people were all straight faced, like a mug shot. In the test portion, they were in different positions, different clothing, often with big smiles. I got a little over half right.

Based on my results, if I was a witness to a crime in a real life situation, my "positive ID" might not be so positive.

I got 9 right. I usually remember faces, and am horrible with remembering names. I don't "file them away." At first I was focused and the test seemed easy. But somewhere in the middle, it seems like I became "face saturated" and the faces seemed more similar, and melding into a typical caucasian man. I wonder if there is a test for remembering sounds?

I got 5 of 14 :P to which I am not surprised at all, I am not good at recognizing faces, had several experiences in which I end up disillusioning/disappointing people, because at first I do not remembered them, later their voice/personal style gave me hints, but the damage was already done :( nowadays, I pretend to remember them, of course, sometimes, after they leaved, I still wonder whom was it.

I wanted to give the test a try, still 5 from 14 was high to me :)

Same here. Thought I could cheat a bit by taking the hairstyle as a reference. And you not the only one that wonder about who this person in front of you is^^.

9/14. Not a super-recognizer. If you ask me who I was sure about it would be less than that number.

I did the longer test: on the black and white cartoon portion I got 33/44. Then, on the real faces portion, I got exactly chance! 20/40. With the guitars somehow I got 25/40, so objects are slightly more memorable than real faces? That seems surprising. But I do remember thinking "oh man, all these guys look the same," and then getting tired of it halfway through that portion. Since it was real faces there may have been slightly more emotion involved, which could either have lowered or raised my score. The emotions could be applied to the faces so they could be more easily recognized, but on the other hand it may have clouded my memory. I am not sure.

The very last part of the longer test was not scored (or I did not see the score), but it was interesting. I would constantly go back and forth about whether some faces were of the same person. By that point I was slightly frustrated and wanted to do something else. It pointed out my lack of patience to me!

I got 11/14, but I was guessing near the end because they started to look the same for me, too. It surprised me because I tend to worry about not recognizing people I've recently met.

I agree; I likely wouldn't have done as well if the men had been a different race as me.

Thanks for sharing, Mr.Cyan!

I got 10/14. It was especially difficult to tell them apart once the faces rotated--that is, the first view is from the front, then they have to be identified by the profile. I'm not sure how my facial recognition skills are in the real world, though.

I also wonder if race would affect my performance.

For those wondering if race of the people in the pictures would affect your performance, go on to the longer test offered. That test does have different races pictured.
