I agree in principle Nathancat7,
Though, something I've learned over the years is that there's a fine balance to be navigated with these impressions that can show up in our lives. I think that, much like an allergic reaction or an irritation, these emotions show up as reactions to stimuli (or impressions) that are there to provide us with an opportunity to find its source within us.
As such, being completely stoic to the emotions that we feel, is perhaps a good approach when interacting with the world, however, the emotions that spring forth from within us at a given situation ought not to be ignored in my opinion.
One could sit with it so as to learn their origin, perhaps the anger is because of projection, or sadness, or melancholy, or self centeredness. Maybe this self centernedness is pure ego and vanity, or perhaps it is rooted in deeper ingrained programs.
So, I agree with you, the goal would be not to become identified with what happens to us, but at the same time, these emotions ought to be integrated so as to become conscious of them and have them as allies, which necessitates feeling them and metabolize them, in such a way I think it's easier to align oneself with the cosmic purposes.
My two cents.
