Iraqi Troops Evacuate Over 2,000 Residents Near Daesh-Held Fallujah

http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20160528/1040409819/fallujah-evacuation-iraq.html

Iraqi soldiers evacuated over 2,000 residents from Daesh-held regions of Fallujah as the operation to reclaim the city from terrorists neared its first week, national television reported Saturday, citing military command.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The military operation to liberate the city 40 miles west of Baghdad began on Monday. At least 20,000 troops have been deployed to combat jihadists who were said to trap 90,000 Fallujah residents.

"A total of 2,030 people, or 507 families, have been helped out through safe corridors," the command said as quoted by the Al Sumaria broadcaster.

Some 110 Daesh militants have been killed, their vehicles and bomb-making facilities destroyed, the command added. Previously, at least 80 Daesh militants have been killed west of Fallujah.

The United Nations estimates only a small number of Fallujah’s population was able to escape the city, which became an Islamist stronghold in 2014. Some 800 people from mostly outlying areas have fled, with 50,000 still inside, the UN estimates.

Iraqi Armed Forces kill over 110 ISIS terrorists in 24 hours: MoD

The Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday that the Iraqi Armed Forces managed to kill over 110 terrorists from the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) in 24 hours while advancing at the cities of Al-Karma and Fallujah.

In addition to killing over 110 terrorists, the Iraqi Armed Forces also destroyed 18 armored vehicles that were mounted with a variety of anti-aircraft machine guns.

The Iraqi Ministry of Defense concluded their statement by commending the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) for their contribution to the latest battlefield achievements.

The PMF have worked diligently to defuse roadside bombs, while also carrying out their military operations against the Islamic State terrorists in Fallujah and Al-Karma.

Iraq: ISIL Executes Own Members on Charge of Escaping Battle in Fallujah

“They have left their post at the battlefront in the Northeastern suburb of Fallujah without permission from their leadership, which ISIL deems as a treason,” media activist Salwan Rashidi told ARA news in Fallujah.

The five fighters were arrested inside the city of Fallujah, and the Sharia Court decided to execute them publicly on charges of “high treason”.

“They were shot dead in Central Fallujah after an ISIL officer read a statement, vowing that any fighter who would desert his fighting position will face the same punishment,” the source reported.

This comes just one day after the Iraqi army forces recaptured the strategic town of Karma near Fallujah from the ISIL.

The Iraqi volunteer forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) discovered ISIL's largest tunnel near the city of Fallujah in Anbar province in Western Iraq.

"The Iraqi volunteer forces found ISIL's very long tunnel in the surrounding areas of a brick factory near Fallujah city which linked a large number of regions," Adi al-Khadran, a Hashd al-Shaabi commander, said on Saturday.

Al-Khadran said that the ISIL had used the tunnel to approach and appear in the frontline in order to reduce its casualties.

On Friday, the Iraqi volunteer forces discovered another ISIL workshop used for making bombs and road mines near Fallujah.

"The workshop's products were used by the ISIL terrorists in their attacks on civilians in the region," a Hashd al-Shaabi commander told FNA.

He noted that the bomb-making workshop was discovered in al-Moamel region located to the Northeast of Fallujah city, and said, "The Iraqi volunteer forces entered the bomb-making workshop after killing the snipers guarding the place."

On Thursday, the Iraqi Federal Police announced that the security forces have dismantled at least 37 improvised explosive devices in a key road to the Western city of Fallujah.

“The Iraqi Police Explosives Treatment Battalion and their allies are cleansing the road which links between the al-Ma’mal al-Azraq and the village of al-Lifiyah, Esat of Fallujah,” Iraqi Police Commander, Raed Shaker Jawdat said in a statement, Iraqi News reported.

He added that the battalion was able to dismantle 37 explosive devices in the key road leading to the city of Fallujah.

Pictures of Iranian General visiting Shi’ite militiamen in Fallujah have outraged Sunni lawmakers from Anbar province.

208 Killed As Iraqi And Iranian Special Forces Surround Fallujah, Hoping To Enter City Within Hours !
http://novorossia.today/121713-2/

Iranian media released the pictures of the al-Quds brigade commander making what was an unannounced and, so far, unconfirmed visit with the Shi’ite troops. The Iraqi government has claimed to have a need for Iranian advisers during the war on the Islamic State militants, so the visit is likely to have happened. There are also reports that the Iranians are building a large base in Sulaymaniya province.

M.P. Hamid al-Mutlaq, however, criticized that need and questioned whether Turkish or Saudi advisers would be just as welcome. In fact, Baghdad has ordered Turkish advisers to leave northern Iraq in recent months. The troops are there with the permission of Iraqi Kurdistan, but not with Baghdad’s consent.

Other lawmakers rightly bring up sectarian concerns. Sunnis in Anbar do no want the Shi’ite militiamen in their province at all, let alone an Iranian general guiding them. Before Daesh took over Fallujah, protests against Baghdad’s treatment of Sunnis had been taking place in Anbar. Some of them were met with deadly violence.

By taking advantage of this discord, the Islamic State found support and quickly occupied Fallujah and much of Anbar province. Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland, the commander of allied forces in Iraq fear there may still be enough discontent among the Sunnis to fight security forces trying to reclaim Fallujah.

About 800 civilians have escaped the Daesh cordon around Fallujah, but authorities lament that most of them were from surrounding areas and not the city itself. Despite the creation of safety corridors, residents are unable to pass freely from their homes to areas of Iraqi control. Residents are unable even to reach the city cemetery; they’ve been forced to bury their dead in their own gardens.

Iraqi special forces are now in position around Fallujah with the hope to enter the city itself within hours.

American commandos are on the front lines in Syria in a new push toward the Islamic State’s de facto capital in Raqqa, but in Iraq it is an entirely different story: Iran, not the United States, has become the face of an operation to retake the jihadist stronghold of Falluja from the militant group.

The U.S. Regime Worries About Iran Led Operation To Retake Falluja Iraq
http://novorossia.today/121694-2/

On the outskirts of Falluja, tens of thousands of Iraqi soldiers, police officers and Shiite militiamen backed by Iran are preparing for an assault on the Sunni city, raising fears of a sectarian blood bath. Iran has placed advisers, including its top spymaster, Qassim Suleimani, on the ground to assist in the operation.

The battle over Falluja has evolved into yet another example of how United States and Iranian interests seemingly converge and clash at the same time in Iraq. Both want to defeat the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL. But the United States has long believed that Iran’s role, which relies on militias accused of sectarian abuses, can make matters worse by angering Sunnis and making them more sympathetic to the militants.

While the battle against the Islamic State straddles the borders of Iraq and Syria, the United States has approached it as two separate fights. In Syria, where the government of Bashar al-Assad is an enemy, America’s ally is the Kurds.

But in Iraq, where the United States backs the central government, and trains and advises the Iraqi Army, it has been limited by the role of Iran, the most powerful foreign power inside the country.

That United States dilemma is on full display in Falluja as the fighting intensifies.

Inside the city, tens of thousands of Sunni civilians are trapped, starving and lacking medicine, according to activists and interviews with residents. Some were shot dead by the Islamic State as they tried to flee, and others died under buildings that collapsed under heavy military and militia artillery bombardment in recent days, according to the United Nations.

The few civilians who have made it to safety have escaped at night, traveling through the irrigation pipes.

In an extraordinary statement on Wednesday, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the world’s pre-eminent Shiite religious leader, who lives in Najaf in southern Iraq and is said to be concerned by Iran’s growing role in Iraq, urged security forces and militia to restrain themselves and abide by “the standard behaviors of jihad.”

The grim sectarian tableau in Falluja — starving Sunni civilians trapped in a city surrounded by a mostly Shiite force — provides the backdrop to a final assault that Iraqi officials have promised will come soon.

The United States has thousands of military personnel in Iraq and has trained Iraqi security forces for nearly two years, yet is largely on the sidelines in the battle to retake Falluja. (Article continues.)

The Yemeni intelligence sources disclosed that the country's security forces have gained access to a series of documents and correspondence which prove the UAE's role in supporting Al-Qaeda and other radical terrorists groups in Southern Yemen.

Report: Documents Prove UAE's Support for Terrorists Groups in Yemen
http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950309001448

"The documents and letters gained by the Yemeni security forces clearly show that the United Arab Emirates has supported Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups in Yemen, specially in the Southern part of the country,"

The sources reiterated that the UAE spies have given a lot of cash and weapons to the commanders of the Al-Qaeda and the ISIL in Yemen to conduct their terrorist acts in the Southern Yemeni provinces.

"These documents and intelligence unveil the relations between a UAE intelligence officer with senior commanders of Al-Qaeda and the ISIL in Yemen," the added.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia have been supporting the Takfiri terrorist groups in Southern Yemen against the Yemeni popular forces.

In mid-March, a senior Yemeni military source disclosed that the Saudi regime has coordinated with Al-Qaeda to dispatch a large number of Takfiri terrorists to the strategic regions in Southern Yemen.

"Saudi Arabia has stationed a large number of al-Qaeda terrorists around the strategic strait of Bab al-Mandeb in Southern Yemen in line with a US plot to increase its military presence there," Khalil Abdullah told FNA.

Abdullah also said that Saudi Arabia has asked its Sudanese mercenaries to advance towards Ta'iz and Lahij provinces.

"Hundreds of Al-Qaeda terrorists are now in Southwestern Yemen and they have pointed their artillery at the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait," Abdullah said.

The Iraqi fighter jets pounded and destroyed the buildings of ISIL's Court of Sharia (religious court) and media center near the city of Fallujah in Anbar province in Western Iraq on Sunday, and the country's volunteer forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) continued their advances in the same region.

The ISIL's Sharia Court and Media Center buildings were completely annihilated in the Iraqi airstrikes today.

Meantime, commander of Anbar military operations said his forces are now in full control over the surrounding areas of Fallujah city, adding that the Iraqi joint armed forces will start their operations to liberate Fallujah in coming hours.

Earlier today, the Iraqi army and volunteer forces continued their advances in Anbar province, killing tens of Takfiri terrorists near the city of Fallujah.

At least 110 ISIL terrorists were killed in the offensive of Iraqi joint forces in Northern al-Karmah to the Northeast of Fallujah city.

Al-Karmah is an important and strategic city near Fallujah and is considered as an entrance gate to the city of Fallujah. It is located 16 kilometers to the Northeast of Fallujah.

On Tuesday, Iraqi military forces managed to push ISIL militants back from agricultural areas outside Fallujah as they continue their military operation to retake Iraq's Western city.

"The international coalition does not have an active partnership in these operations and the Iraqi air force is the biggest actor in this war," Mohammad al-Hatab told FNA on Sunday.

He, meantime, said that despite the US-led coalition's procrastinated assistance to the Iraqi army, the operation to free Fallujah is advancing well based on the plan and timeline.

Hatab also said that the Iraqi popular forces have now taken control of the routes used by the civilians who escape from the ISIL's hands, supplying them with humanitarian aid.

The Iraqi army and popular forces on Saturday took control of more districts near Fallujah in the province of Anbar from ISIL militants, getting ready to enter the key town.

Iraqi army troops and volunteer forces are ready to start the new phase of the military operation against the ISIL to take back the key town from the Takfiri terrorists.

According to Iraqi Federal Police Forces Commander Lieutenant General Raed Shaker Jawdat, the security forces have so far managed to evacuate 760 people, mostly women and children, from the Northern outskirts of the embattled city of Fallujah and moved them to a safe place away from the battlefield.

On Friday, the Iraqi military said that it had managed to evacuate 65 families, mostly women and children, from the eastern outskirts of the city.

Iraqi forces have entered ISIS-held Fallujah - AFP citing commanders

https://www.rt.com/news/344801-iraqi-forces-enter-fallujah/

Iraqi forces have entered Islamic State-held Fallujah, one of their key strongholds in Iraq commanders say, according to AFP. On Sunday, Iraq completed a troop buildup around the city, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) west of Baghdad.

"The operation to enter Fallujah began on [Monday] morning,” an Iraqi official told AFP.

An Iraqi military officer told Reuters the government's military unit is currently trying to advance in Falluja, with explosions and heavy gunfire reportedly heard in Falluja's southern Naimiya district.

Iraqi government-led forces launched an offensive to dislodge Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants from Fallujah a week ago, and have been slicing through ISIS positions ever since. The terrorist group still controls territory in the north and west of the country, including Iraq's second largest city, Mosul.

Major Dhia Thamir told AP on Sunday that Iraqi troops had recaptured 80 percent of the territory around the city since the operation began last week. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said, during a televised speech to parliament, that the "current second phase of the Fallujah operation" will last less than 48 hours.

The large-scale assault, carried out by the Army, police counterterrorism units, local tribal fighters and a coalition of Shiite Muslim militias, continues on all fronts around the city. Besides making vast gains in the north, forces, aided by US advisers, have also been advancing on the city from the Sinjar direction.

We are moving in the right direction. We are killing those criminals,” a police unit fighter told RT last week, adding that approaches to the city are mined.

Fallujah, which survived some of the heaviest fighting of the 2003-2011 US-led military intervention, was the first city in Iraq to fall under IS control in January 2014. In late June, 2014, the extremists declared a caliphate in territories seized in Iraq and Syria.

Iraqi Army killed over 50 ISIS terrorists while liberating Al-Heet

The Iraqi Army’s 7th Division – backed by the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) – expelled the remaining Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) terrorists that were operating inside the Al-Heet District of Al-Anbar.

While liberating the Al-Heet District, the Iraqi Armed Forces reportedly killed over 50 Islamic State terrorists, including a number of foreign combatants.

Earlier this week, ISIS was able to enter the Al-Heet District after overrunning the defenses of the local tribal fighters.

Once ISIS seized several sites in the Al-Heet District, the Iraqi Armed Forces redeployed to this area in order to expel the terrorist combatants that were wrecking havoc on the local populous.

At least 14 killed in Baghdad car bombings

http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2016/05/30/468082/Iraq-car-bomb-blast-Baghdad-Fallujah-operation

At least 14 people have been killed in bombing attacks in the north and northeast of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.

A car bomb exploded at a market in northeast Baghdad on Monday, killing at least nine people and injuring 17 others. Two cars laden with explosives were to target a police station, but security forces foiled one of the attacks.

In another incident, a car bomb killed five people in a northern Baghdad neighborhood. Fifteen people were also wounded in that attack.

The attacks on Monday came as Iraqi commanders said their forces have entered Fallujah in a major victory against Daesh militants.

The city, located about 40 miles west of Baghdad, is one of the last major Daesh strongholds in Iraq.

4000 fresh Iraqi graduates trained by the Spanish army By Ahmed Alkaabi - 30/05/2016

The ‘Global Coalition’, an axis that is formed to combat ISIS all over the world, consists of 66 partners, and is an important member and partner for Iraq, especially Spain. The ‘Global Coalition’ has stated that Spain has trained over 4,000 Iraqi soldiers, which is almost 20% of the total trained Iraqi military personnel who are prepared by the coalition. The Spanish army provided the Iraqi army and its special forces training and education. The training is focused primarily on conventional warfare. The Iraqi Security Forces Infantry and Commando Brigades, Artillery, Medical and Engineering Units have received extensive training. The Spanish army has trained about 4,000 Iraqi soldiers, which is a significant amount as it adds to Iraq’s capacity to combat ISIS in Iraq. In total, Iraq has added more than 20,000 army personnel who are extensively trained by the ‘Global Coalition’. The total amount of trained personnel is only going to increase, and most likely the graduates are going to fight in Mosul, as Haidar Al-Abadi has said that 2016 is the year that Mosul is going to be liberated from ISIS occupation.

Iraqi army launches assault against ISIL in Fallujah
http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/05/iraqi-army-launches-assault-isil-fallujah-160530053337977.html
Special forces enter "third phase" in fight to liberate the central city from ISIL, as 50,000 people remain trapped.
Iraqi special forces launched an assault one of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group's most emblematic bastions, Fallujah, as the group counter-attacked in both Iraq and neighbouring Syria.

The assault was launched in the early hours of Monday morning. Troops entered the city from three directions.

Explosions and gunfire could be heard in Fallujah's southern Naimiya district, Reuters reported.

"Iraqi forces entered Fallujah under air cover from the international coalition, the Iraqi air force and army aviation, and supported by artillery and tanks," said Lieutenant General Abdelwahab al-Saadi, the commander of the operation.

"CTS forces, the Anbar police and the Iraqi army, at around 4:00 am (0100 GMT), started moving into Fallujah from three directions," he said.

"There is resistance from Daesh," he added, using an Arabic acronym for ISIL.

CTS spokesman Sabah al-Noman said: "We started early this morning our operations to break into Fallujah."

Fighting on Monday followed battles a day earlier, adding to the exodus of thousands of desperate civilians from the surrounding areas and deep concern for the many more trapped in the battlegrounds.

Also on Monday, at least nine people were killed and 26 were wounded in bombings north and northeast of the capital Baghdad.

The week-old operation to liberate Fallujah has so far focused on retaking villages and rural areas close to the central city, which lies just 50 kilometres west of Baghdad.

CTS's involvement will mark the start of a phase of urban combat in a city where US forces in 2004 fought some of their toughest battles since the Vietnam War.

Only a few hundred families managed to slip out of the Fallujah area, with an estimated 50,000 people still trapped inside the city proper.

Report: ISIL Kills Militants Wounded in Fallujah Battle through Lethal Injection

http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950310001485

"The ISIL has given potassium chloride injection to its wounded terrorists to kill them," the Arabic-language media quoted an informed source in Fallujah hospital as saying on Monday.

The source noted that the ISIL has killed dozen of its injured terrorists who were hospitalized in Fallujah hospital, and said, "Potassium chloride results in patients' heart attack."

Earlier on Monday, the Iraqi security forces advanced towards the center of the city of Fallujah as they clashed with the ISIL over taking control of al-Tafaha bridge.

The Iraqi forces maintained full control over al-Shihah region and are now clashing with the ISIL terrorists in al-Saqlawiyah town to the West of Fallujah city.

An estimated 600-1,000 ISIL terrorists with the exception of their allied tribal fighters are stationed in the Fallujah city.

The Iraqi government troops entered the Jolan neighborhood as they gained control over al-Saqlawiyah region.

Meantime, the Iraqi army seized back al-Niamiyah region to the South of Fallujah.

The Iraqi forces have besieged Fallujah from four directions and the ISIL can only escape through al-Zawiyah region.

Also today, the Iraqi forces entered Fallujah, one of the terrorist group's key strongholds in Iraq after completing a troop buildup around the city.

"The operation to enter Fallujah began on Monday morning,” an Iraqi official told journalists who entered the city with the Iraqi security forces, RT reported.

The Iraqi military officer said the government's military units began advancing in the city of Fallujah, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) west of Baghdad, with explosions and heavy gunfire reportedly heard in Fallujah's Southern Naimiyah district.

Iraqi government-led forces launched an offensive to dislodge ISIL militants from Fallujah a week ago, and have been slicing through ISIL positions ever since. The terrorist group still controls territory in the North and West of the country, including Iraq's second largest city, Mosul.

Islamic State defensive line falls apart in southern Fallujah amid new Iraqi advance

https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/iraqi-armed-forces-liberate-southern-district-fallujah-city/

Around noon, the Iraqi Army – heavily backed by the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) – stormed and liberated the Al-Nu’aimiyah district at the southern gates of Fallujah city.

Iraqi troops entered Al-Nu’aimiyah early this morning and have been advancing rapidly since.

Effectively, the Iraqi Army has now reached the outskirts of the southeastern Al-Shuhada neighbourhood – this represents a major blow to the Islamic State.

Fallujah has been otherwise impregnable since ISIS captured it in January 2014.

With todays’ advance, the initial phase of urban clashes have begun inside the Islamic State stronghold of Fallujah.

ISIS is outnumbered at least 10 to 1 at Fallujah; subsequently, Islamic State commanders are mostly relying on sporadic suicide bombing operations and mines to prevent the Iraqi Armed Forces from overrunning the city entirely.

Iraqi Air Force Kills Seven Senior Daesh Commanders, Intelligence Chief

Seven senior Daesh commanders, including the organization's intelligence and security chief, were killed in an airstrike by the Iraqi air force in western Iraq on Monday, a press service for the Iraqi military and security bodies said.

CAIRO (Sputnik) — According to the press service, the airstrike targeted IS leaders in the western Anbar province, on the border with Syria. There were commanders of large Daesh armed groups operating in Iraq and Syria, as well as the head of a Sharia court in the so-called "Euphrates Province" — a large area straddling Iraq and Syria that Daesh has declared as an administrative division of its "Caliphate."

Security Council: Kurdish Troops Retake 9 Villages From Daesh East of Mosul

Kurdish Peshmerga forces recaptured nine villages and killed 140 Daesh terrorists during a two-day offensive east of Mosul, Kurdistan Region Security Council said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — It has been earlier reported that some 5,000 Kurdish fighters armed by large-caliber weapons were participating in the offensive.

"In the course of the two-day operation, nine villages were cleared: Mufti, Tel Asward, Upper Zahra Khatun, Lower Zahra Khatun, Tulebend, Gezekan, Chamakor, Kullabur and Wardak in an area measuring approximately 120 square kilometers. Further, approximately 140 ISIL [IS] terrorists were killed by Global Coalition warpalnes and Peshmerga forces," a statement posted on the council's Twitter account said.

The second largest Iraqi city of Mosul was captured by the militants of Daesh, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia and the United States and many other countries, in 2014.

The Iraqi Army and Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) have entered the city of Fallujah for the first time since it was captured by Daesh, US Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL Brett McGurk said Monday.

"For first time in over 2 years, Iraqi CTS & Army units have entered the city of #Fallujah to free its citizens from #ISIL terrorists," McGurk wrote on Twitter.

The Iraqi military, backed by the Shiite militia and the US-led coalition, launched the military operation last week to liberate the city 40 miles west of Baghdad. At least 20,000 troops have been deployed to combat jihadists in Fallujah.

On Sunday, according to reports, these forces took control of almost all entrances to Fallujah.

Informed sources disclosed on Monday that the ISIL terrorist group gets rid of the dead bodies of its militants who are killed in the Iraqi airstrikes in Fallujah by throwing them into the Euphrates River.

The ISIL throws the corpses of its dead militants into the Euphrates overnight in order to prevent others from fleeing the battle zone, the Arabic-language media quoted informed sources as saying on Monday.

They noted that eyewitnesses have seen ISIL terrorists' dead bodies floating on the Euphrates River.

The Iraqi army and volunteer forces continued their advances in Anbar province, killing tens of Takfiri terrorists Fallujah.

Lieutenant Ahmed Mahdi Salih, a commander in Iraqi federal police participating in the battle, said that fierce battles were taking place in the Eastern vicinity of Fallujah which the militants are using as a supply line, Rudaw news website reported.

At least 12 Real Madrid fans were reportedly slain in Iraq, as the Spanish club challenged Atletico for the Champions League title on the Weekend.

Real, meanwhile, after the match dedicated their victory to Iraqi fans murdered by ISIL gunmen during a similar massacre, RT reported.

Saturday’s attack on the fans’ club in Baquba reportedly took place as Real and Atletico were about to start the penalty shootout following extra time to finally determine the winner of the title.

According to the Spanish AS sports news, four gunmen stormed the supporters’ venue, firing indiscriminately before fleeing the scene.

“It was a similar type of attack to the one that took place earlier in the month. Twelve people have been killed and at least eight wounded, who have been taken to hospital,” Ziad Albidani, the president of the Real fanclub in Baquba told the publication.

Other sources told the publication that the death toll could be lower, with four fans aged 18-30 dead, with five others injured. No official information on the attack has yet been shared by the Iraqi authorities.

“The army are restricting the information that is coming out of the scene. This is a terrible situation. They are destroying the happiness of all Madrid fans on such a special night,” the president of an associated Real Madrid supporters club in Iraq, told AS.

The town of Baquba, located about 60 kilometers North of Baghdad also lies less than 90 km away from Balad, a city that witnessed the first attack on Real fans by the ISIL terrorists on May 13. Sixteen people were killed by three gunmen at the Al Furat cafe, leaving more than 20 injured.

On Saturday, Real went on to win the title beating Athletico in a penalty shootout after full and extra time ended with 1-1 draw. After the victory in Milan, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez said that he would like to “dedicate this cup to our fans in Iraq.”

In a statement in the aftermath of the attack earlier this month, Real Madrid said that the club “profoundly laments” the terrible attack and “expresses its total sadness and offers its thoughts and condolences to the families and friends of the victims.”

Ahead of Saturday’s match, Iraq's security forces have deployed extra personnel around Al Furat cafe to protect the venue. However this time, the terrorists struck another target.

Football is effectively banned in areas controlled by ISIL. Watching or following the world’s most popular game is severely punished within the ranks of hardline extremists. Earlier this month European security services warned that France faces an increased terrorist threat during the upcoming Euro 2016 football tournament.

The Iraqi Army is continuing to advance in the fight against Daesh terrorists in the city of Fallujah despite attacks by suicide bombers and mine-laden vehicles, Iraqi Armed Forces spokesman Yahya Rasul told Sputnik on Tuesday.

BAGHDAD (Sputnik) – Last week, Iraqi military and Shiite militia with the support of the international coalition have launched the military operation to liberate the city 40 miles west of Baghdad. On Sunday, according to reports, these forces took control of almost all entrances to Fallujah.

“In the next few hours you will see the positive results of the operation of our counter-terrorism units and SWAT teams, as well as our federal police,” Rasul said.

Since 2014, Iraqi city of Fallujah has been controlled by Daesh terrorist group. Before the war, the city was one of the country's biggest with population of 350,000 people.

On Monday, Fallujah city sources told Sputnik that the Iraqi military continues to move through the city of Fallujah and was able to block Daesh militants who were attempting to flee the city on boats along the Euphrates River.

Shiite militia, fighting Daesh in the Iraqi city of Fallujah, has discovered network of the tunnels used by extremists in the suburbs of the city, the al-Hashd al-Shaabi group told RIA Novosti on Monday.

Following a short battle, the Iraqi Armed Forces liberated the entire Shuhada District from the Islamic State militants that were entrenched inside this imperative sector of Al-Saqlawiyah.

Currently, the Iraqi Armed Forces are pushing eastward inside Al-Saqlawiyah, killing several Islamic State militants in the process of their advance along the strategic International Highway.

Al-Saqlawiyah is located along the International Highway that flows through Fallujah; if captured, they will be within striking distance of the aforementioned city’s western flank.

Some 3,700 Civilians Flee Fallujah Amid Iraqi Army Operation Against Daesh

http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20160531/1040540120/fallujah-iraq-army.html

About 3,700 people have fled militant-held regions of Iraqi Fallujah city amid new offensive of Iraqi forces to regain control of the area, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On May 22, the Iraqi government deployed at least 20,000 troops to combat extremists in the city Fallujah, which is under control of IS militants and told residents to flee the city ahead of the operation.

"Around 3,700 people (624 families) have fled Falluja[h] over the past week, since the new offensive by Iraqi forces to retake the city began, according to figures provided by authorities……Iraqi forces are helping to transport families escaping the city, and have set up a hotline (195) to provide information to people wanting to leave," the UN's refugee agency statement read.

According to the UNHCR, around 1,300 of the fleeing people remain in a government-run camp Ameriyat al, Fallujah district where UNHCR is operating. Others are staying with relatives or relocated in other state-owned camps.

Another 500 men and boys over 12-years-old are being checked by security screening, 27 people were released after this procedure yesterday, the UNCHR said.

On May 28, the UNHCR received reports on casualties resulted by heavy shelling by militants the Fallujah city. Hundreds of families were also reported to have been used as human shields by Daesh.

Fallujah, located some 42 miles west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, is one of the largest cities in the Anbar province. Fallujah became an Islamist stronghold in 2014. Recent media reports suggested that militants from Daesh, began killing residents attempting to leave the city.

'Awfully Scared' Daesh in Fallujah Smuggles Jewelry to Mosul

http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20160531/1040555022/daesh-fallujah-mosul-jewelry.html

Daesh "is awfully scared" of the collapse of its rule in Fallujah and is smuggling stolen jewelry to Mosul.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Daesh besieged in Fallujah by the Iraqi army smuggles stolen jewelry to its stronghold in Mosul, the Fars News Agency reported Tuesday.

"The ISIL [Daesh] is awfully scared of the soon collapse of its rule in Fallujah. Recent advances of the Iraqi government forces in the region have caused the terrorist group's commanders to decide to move the huge amount of their treasure to the safer region of Mosul," sources were quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.

Fallujah, a Sunni-populated city in the Iraqi western Anbar province, has been captured by Daesh, a jihadist group outlawed in many countries worldwide including Russia, since 2014.

Earlier in May, the Iraqi military command deployed some 20,000 troops in offensive to regain full control over the Anbar province. The Iraqi forces and local militia have already liberated the Karma district located east of Fallujah.

Steel from Ukraine was found on an armoured car in the garage of militants in Iraq.

A video was published on the Internet of the Iraqi military investigating a "Islamic state" building captured the day before.

The video was posted on Live Leak. The description of the video states that the soldiers of the Iraqi army seized a cache of explosives and a garage with armored vehicles of ISIS.

It is alleged that the steel sheets that covered the cars were made in Ukraine. In the video the corresponding marking "Made in Ukraine" can be seen.

Earlier it was reported that ISIS had included Ukraine on the list of enemies. In November last year, the militants released a video where Ukraine and 60 other states were labelled as the enemy.

Recall that on November 20th, Kuwait announced the arrest of a group of six people who supplied weapons to ISIS from Ukraine. Note that the Defense Ministry did not confirm the information that Ukraine is allegedly involved in the supply of weapons to ISIS.

The "Islamic State" spoke about Ukraine for the first time in mid-November. The militants called Ukraine a battleground between the West and Russia.

At Least 20,000 Children in Danger in Iraq's Fallujah

According to the UN International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), about 20,000 children are in jeopardy in the Iraqi city of Fallujah.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least 20,000 children are in jeopardy in the Iraqi city of Fallujah, UN International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) said Wednesday.

Fallujah is a Sunni-populated city in the Iraqi western Anbar province, in which the Daesh militants are besieged by the Iraqi army.

"At least 20,000 children remain trapped in the city. According to reports, food and medicine are running out and clean water is in short supply. Children face the risk of forced recruitment into the fighting, strict procedures for security screening and separation from their families. Children who are recruited see their lives and futures jeopardized as they are forced to carry and use arms, fighting in an adult war," the UNICEF said in the statement.

The organization called on "all parties to protect children inside Fallujah, provide safe passage to those wishing to leave the city and grant safe and secure environments to displaced civilians."

Fallujah became a Daesh stronghold in 2014. On May 22, the Iraqi government deployed at least 20,000 troops to combat extremists and told residents to flee the city ahead of the operation. Whack-a-Mole: Daesh Terrorist Tunnel Network Uncovered in Fallujah

http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20160601/1040620877/iraq-daesh-fallujah-tunnels.html

A network of tunnels constructed by Daesh militants was uncovered by Iraqi armed forces advancing on the city of Fallujah.

Having breached the Daesh defenses around the city of Fallujah, the advancing Iraqi forces made an unpleasant discovery: the terrorists spent a lot of time preparing for a siege and, among other things, dug a vast network of tunnels underneath the city.

According to the military, the tunnels are very long, starting well beyond the Fallujah outskirts and stretching all the way back to the city center. These underground communications are also well designed, fitted with lighting, and at least one of them also contained a fully functional infirmary.

A crew of RT reporters has managed to explore one of the tunnels, offering a glimpse of this feat of Daesh engineering.

The terrorists apparently use these tunnels to hide from airstrikes, store weapons and equipment, and to safely move their forces right under their enemies’ noses.

After carefully considering this situation, the Iraqi military decided to collapse some of the tunnels to hinder enemy troop movements and to at least partially secure its rear ahead of the long and bloody battle for Fallujah.

Iraq slows down Fallujah operation over civilians safety concerns

http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2016/06/01/468475/Iraq-Fallujah-Haider-Abadi-Daesh-Anbar

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has announced the slowdown of the massive military offensive to liberate Fallujah from the grip of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group due to fears for the safety of civilians trapped in the city.

"It would have been possible to end the battle quickly if protecting civilians wasn't among our priorities," Abadi told military commanders at the operations room near the frontline in footage broadcast on state television on Wednesday.

He further noted that the Iraqi army units are stationed “at the outskirts of Fallujah and victory is within reach."

Daesh overran Fallujah in the western Anbar Province in January 2014, six month before the terror group proceeded with its offensive, taking more areas in Iraq.

On May 23, the Iraqi military started a large-scale push to drive out the militants from Fallujah, located 65 kilometers (40 miles) west of the capital, Baghdad.

Iraqi commanders say they have killed dozens of Daesh elements since the beginning of the Fallujah liberation operation.

Fallujah is believed to be the base from which militants have staged a campaign of bombings in Baghdad.

Even though the majority of Fallujah's population is believed to have fled during six months of siege, 50,000 people are still thought to be holed up with limited access to water, food or healthcare.

Earlier on Wednesday, the United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF) said at least 20,000 children remain in Fallujah.

"We are concerned over the protection of children in the face of extreme violence," representative of the UN children’s agency in Iraq, Peter Hawkins, said in a statement, adding, "Children face the risk of forced recruitment into the fighting" and "separation from their families" if they manage to escape the city.

Gruesome violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh launched an offensive in the Arab state two years ago.

The Iraqi military and volunteer fighters are engaged in joint military operations to win back militant-held regions.

The Iraqi military recaptured the city of Ramadi, Anbar’s provincial capital, in December 2015.

Security Source: ISIL Executes 13 Ex-Iraqi Officers for Lack of Cooperation

http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950312001342

"The ISIL executed 13 former officers of the Iraqi army after they refrained from joining the ISIL in al-Qazlani military camp in Western Nineveh province," the Arabic-language Sumeria News quoted an unnamed security source in Nineveh province as saying on Wednesday.

The ISIL had asked the Iraqi officers to cooperate in construction of bombs and laying bombs in Nineveh province.

On Saturday, the ISIL terrorist group executed five of its own fighters for escaping the battlefront in Fallujah, where clashes are ongoing between the terrorist group and the Iraqi army.

According to Hadithi, Baghdad needs regional and international support, including intelligence and arms deliveries.

"We strive for broad international involvement of large countries, inducing Russia, within the framework of efforts of the international community to fight terrorism in Iraq… All work in this area, carried out in coordination with the Iraqi government, is welcomed," Hadithi told RIA Novosti.

As the US military starts an operation to “liberate” the Iraqi city of Fallujah from Daesh, Radio Sputnik talks to Nicolas J.S. Davies, author of Blood On Our Hands: the American Invasion and Destruction of Iraq, and US Marine Ryan Endicott, who took part in the US occupation of Ramadi in 2003, about who is more feared in the region.

US War Crimes: Why Iraqis May Prefer Daesh to American Troops
http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20160602/1040635949/Why-Iraqis-Prefer-Daesh-American.html

"In fact, Iraqis in Fallujah welcomed ISIS [Daesh] when they arrived about two years ago," said Davies, "because they were living under an incredibly repressive regime--being murdered, tortured, detained indefinitely by US-trained Iraqi Shia death squads since 2004."

The occupation of Fallujah by the US military in 2003 began with the Marines capturing a local school, he said. When local people organized a peaceful protest to demand their school back, the Marines opened fire, killing about a dozen people.

"The United States destroyed Iraq," he said, "over the last year and a half, the United States dropped 40,000 bombs and missiles on people and homes and other targets in Iraq and Syria, and only 29,000 missiles and bombs were used in what is referred to as Shock and Awe, in 2003."

"When Ramadi was taken from ISIS a couple of months ago, about 70% of all buildings were destroyed or damaged," he said. He quoted the Roman senator Tacitus: "‘They create a desert and they call it peace.' That is what US airstrikes are doing."

Endicott, who was in Ramadi in 2003, recalled that during the war the US military completely destroyed the city, including civilian objects and infrastructure. For the people of Ramadi, the "liberation" from Daesh meant only "more bombs and more destruction," he said.

Speaking of his mission, Endicott explained that while their primary task was to guard the city center and conduct "combat patrols, in reality we went door to door, kicked in doors and zip-tied anyone of military age — at the age of 13 or above — and hurled them in the trucks if we suspected anything. When a US Marine got killed in action or we had a triggerman spotted, we would shut down the entire block, and we would hurl every single military-age male, zip ties on their hands, at night, screaming, machine guns in their face… And that's what we did four days a week."

"Despite claiming that there was an organized terrorist force, during eight months of patrols our platoon did not find a single weapons cache. We did not find any trace of a centralized terrorist force and centralized leadership, and it became clear that it was the people of the Ramadi who were an organized militia, the local people, tired of having their doors kicked in, families torn apart with machine guns. They got tired of our occupation; it had nothing to do with global terrorism or anything of that nature."

"It became clear that there is no such thing as an innocent civilian. Everyone was guilty, women, children," he said.

The kids, who are now 18 or 20, lived almost their entire lives in one of the most brutal occupations in contemporary history. So to think of some force coming in, saying ‘follow us, we are going to oust US imperialism, we are going to fight people responsible for these crimes,' it makes complete sense that these youths who lived their entire life in combat would join just about any force that will promise to liberate them."

The ISIL terrorist group has resorted to killing its militants wounded in Fallujah battle, media reports said.

Report: ISIL Kills Militants Wounded in Fallujah Battle
http://en.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13950312000874

"Our forces have gained access to the ISIL leaders' conversations and communication exchanges in which they asked for help and ordering the killing of the wounded militants," the Arabic-language Sumeria News quoted Sayed al-Shohada Battalions Secretary General Abu al-Ala Alvani as saying on Wednesday.

Alvani, meantime, said in a statement that his forces have managed to complete the phases 1 and 2 of the winning back al-Karmah region.

"The engineering units are purging the recently seized back districts in Fallujah city of the ISIL terrorists in order to pave the way for people's return to their homes," he added.

On Monday, Iraqi health officials disclosed that the ISIL terrorist group has resorted to a new method to get rid of its wounded militants and kills those wounded in Fallujah battle by giving them lethal injections.

"The ISIL has given potassium chloride injection to its wounded terrorists to kill them," the Arabic-language media quoted an informed source in Fallujah hospital as saying.

The source noted that the ISIL has killed dozen of its injured terrorists who were hospitalized in Fallujah hospital, and said, "Potassium chloride results in patients' heart attack."

Also on Monday, the Iraqi security forces advanced towards the center of the city of Fallujah as they clashed with the ISIL over taking control of al-Tafaha bridge.

Meantime, the Iraqi army seized back al-Naimiyah region to the South of Fallujah

The Iraqi forces have besieged Fallujah from four directions and the ISIL can only escape through al-Zawiyah region.

Also on Monday, the Iraqi forces entered Fallujah, one of the terrorist group's key strongholds in Iraq after completing a troop buildup around the city.

"The operation to enter Fallujah began on Monday morning,” an Iraqi official told journalists who entered the city with the Iraqi security forces.

Major Dhia Thamir told media on Sunday that Iraqi troops had recaptured 80 percent of the territory around the city since the operation began last week. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi also said, during a televised speech to parliament, that the "current second phase of the Fallujah operation" will last less than 48 hours.

“We are moving in the right direction. We are killing those criminals,” a police unit fighter told RT last week, adding that approaches to the city are mined.

The Afghan government buys marble stone from private firms who in turn pay fees and taxes to Taliban, which results in the Taliban making from $50,000 to $60,000 per day or over $18 million per year, according to British media.

Taliban in Afghanistan Getting Government Money Through Marble Industry
http://sputniknews.com/asia/20160603/1040730668/taliban-marble-afghanistan-money.html

The Afghanistan government money reaches the Taliban indirectly through the marble business, British media reported on Friday.

According to The Guardian, the Afghan government buys marble stone from private firms who in turn pay fees and taxes to Taliban, which results in the Taliban making from $50,000 to $60,000 per day or over $18 million per year.

The Helmand province, a center of large marble industry has been for a long time under control of Taliban militants who charge contractors for extraction rights. The Afghan government unable to get to the marble elsewhere buys it from the contractors, thus knowingly providing a line of funding to the Taliban, the newspaper says.

Afghanistan is experiencing significant political, social and security-related instability, as radical extremist organizations, including the Taliban, continue to stage attacks against civilian and state targets.

Families of Iraq War dead will have to pay £767 for full Chilcot report
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/06/03/families-of-iraq-war-dead-will-have-to-pay-767-for-full-chilcot/

The families of British soldiers who died in the Iraq War will have to pay £767 for a hard copy of the full Chilcot report.

It has emerged there are no allowances to give free copies of the 12-volume report to the next of kin of those soldiers killed during combat.

Instead they will be given a free hard copy of the executive summary – which would otherwise cost £30 – and will be urged to read the full report online.

The news has infuriated the loved ones of those who died during combat who have been waiting seven years to find out what really happened in the run-up to war.

Roger Bacon, whose son was killed in the Iraq War, said: "It's ridiculous, I think it's very unfair. To have to spend that amount of money, where do they think the families are going to get the funds from to do that?

"This is big money for most people. We are not corporations or Government organisations, we are ordinary people.

"To be expected to pay that amount of money for a report that has had an enormous effect on all of us is really not on.

"To deal with something like this you need to have something you can hold and read. It is offensive to expect us to cough up that amount of money."

Johnny Mercer, the Tory MP who captained a commando in Afghanistan before standing for Parliament, called on the government to cover the cost of a report for every family of the fallen.

He told The Telegraph: “It is an insult to the families for them to be asked to pay for a copy of the report. It is very clear to me that in this Inquiry the families have been almost entirely forgotten.

“It is the right thing to do for the government to cover the cost of a hard copy of the report to all families of the fallen. If that is what they want, they should be given that. They have given their children to service for this nation. We should look after them.”

Tim Farron, the Liberal Democrat leader, has written to the Ministry of Defence urging them to provide free copies to all families who request one and criticising the "unbelievable" decision to make them pay.

The inquiry, which has been led by the former civil servant Sir John Chilcot, will be published on July 6 and will be 2.6 million words long - four times the length of War and Peace.

It is currently expected to be around 6,000 pages long and last 12 volumes, plus an executive summary.

The next of kin of all 179 British soldiers who died in Iraq will be invited to see an embargoed copy of the report at 8am on July 6.

There they will be given a free copy of the report’s executive summary to take away but will not get a copy of the full 12-volume document. The report will be available to read for free online.

If they want to a hard copy of the full report into the war that led to their loved ones’ death they will have to pay £767 to Williams Lea, the publisher with a parliamentary contract that is printing the document.

David Davis, the former Tory shadow home secretary who has campaigned for the release of the report, said: “If there is anybody in the country who has already paid too high a price for this report it is the families.

“The idea of making them pay hundreds of pounds to find out the reasons why their loved ones died is bluntly a disgrace. They should all be given a free copy as a matter of course.”

Who is Sir John Chilcot?

A former career civil servant, now 77 and a Privy Counsellor. He also worked on the Butler Review of intelligence about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

What is the inquiry's remit?

To examine the UK’s decision to intervene in Iraq, how the British army offensive was conducted and any lessons to be learned. The time covered includes the run up to the start of war in 2003, to when combat troops were removed from Iraq at the end of July 2009.

Why has it taken so long?

There has been a lot of time-consuming wrangling with the Cabinet Office about how much correspondence between Blair and Bush could be released. Chilcot is also waiting for responses from all those implicated in his final report, before publishing.

Do we know what it's expected to say?

We don’t. But Chilcot has promised Whitehall will have the final say on the report.

When will it be published?

6 July 2016

Chilcot Inquiry or Iraq Inquiry?

Whichever takes your fancy.

At Least 40 Iraqi Soldiers Killed in Fallujah Suicide-Bombing Attacks

According to media reports, at least 40 members of Iraqi forces have been killed in a series of attacks by suicide-bombers in the northern outskirts of the city of Fallujah.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – At least 40 members of Iraqi forces have been killed in a series of attacks by suicide-bombers in the northern outskirts of the city of Fallujah, Ai-Jazeera television reported on Friday.

The Iraqi Army and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), backed by US-led coalition airstrikes, launched an offensive to retake Fallujah on May 22. Iraqi and US military officials have said they expect a fierce battle with the Daesh, which has deeply embedded itself in the city over the past two years.

Iraqi artillery attacks kill 24 Daesh terrorists in Hit

http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2016/06/03/468746/Iraq-artillery-Daesh-Hit-Anbar

Iraqi security forces have launched artillery attacks against the Daesh terrorists in the city of Hit in the western province of Anbar, killing some 24 Takfiri militants.

Major General Qassem al-Mohamadi, the commander of al-Jazeera operations, said the terrorists were killed as Iraqi artillery shells hit Daesh concentration centers in the district of al-Doulab in Hit, 70 km west of Ramadi City, the Arabic-language al-Sumaria news website reported Friday.

The Iraqi military recaptured the central city of Ramadi, Anbar’s provincial capital, last December.

He added that six other terrorists were also wounded in the artillery attacks that left the militants’ positions and weapons destroyed.

The report added that the Iraqi forces are carrying on with their military operations to liberate the Daesh-held areas on the outskirts of Hit from the control of the terrorists. The security forces liberated Hit in April after weeks of fighting.

The development comes as the security forces are engaged in a wide-scale military operation in the western province to liberate the city of Fallujah from the militants.

Gruesome violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh launched an offensive in the country in June 2014, and took control of portions of the Iraqi territory.

The militants have been committing vicious crimes against all ethnic and religious communities in Iraq, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and others.

The Iraqi army and volunteer forces are involved in operations to win back militant-held areas.

Media Silent as US and UK Train Saudi Forces Responsible for War Crimes in Yemen

“Unlike in Syria, the U.K. and U.S. are two of the primary causes of the problem in Yemen. Put simply, a coalition of the wealthiest Arab states have joined forces to bomb and starve one of the poorest, with the assistance of two of the world’s richest and most powerful powers,

U.S. Regime Secretary Of State John Kerry Gives Green Light To Kill Civilians In Yemen ! (VIDEO)

VIDEO OF US/SAUDI BOMBING MARKET PLACE ~~ Secretary of State John Kerry this week waved off concerns about U.S.-supported Saudi-coalition airstrikes in Yemen that have indiscriminately bombed civilians and rescuers, and instead blamed the Shiite Houthi rebels for the bulk of the civilian casualties.

“There have been a lot of civilian casualties, and clearly, civilian casualties are a concern,” Kerry told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes. “I think the Saudis have expressed in the last weeks their desire to make certain that they’re acting responsibly, and not endangering civilians.”

Kerry instead faulted the Shiite Houthis, who are on the receiving end of the airstrikes, saying they “have a pretty good, practiced way of putting civilians into danger.”

According to a report by the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, 60 percent of the more than 3,200 people killed and 5,700 wounded in the conflict through September 2015 were killed in coalition airstrikes. The Saudi coalition has also intentionally targeted civilian areas, destroying hospitals, schools, factories, markets, and homes.

The Saudi coalition announced last week that they have “fully complied with international…law,” and that “coalition forces have a robust process to ensure all targets are

genuinely military.” The announcement also promised that “avoidable collateral damage” will be referred to an “internal accident investigation team,” and that “compensation for the victims… is pledged.”

But the only public investigation Saudi Arabia has conducted on its military took place in October, after Saudi Arabia bombed an MSF (Doctors without Borders) hospital in Yemen. The kingdom’s ambassador to the U.N. admitted that the strike was a “mistake,” but blamed the incident on MSF providing incorrect coordinates.

In January, coalition aircraft fired a rocket at another MSF-supported facility, in Saada, near Yemen’s border with Saudi Arabia, killing six people. MSF personnel could not confirm identity of the attackers, but said that “planes were seen flying over the facility at the time.”

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has tried to dismiss and discredit the work of human rights monitors on the ground in Yemen.

In an interview with NPR’s Mary Louise Kelly last month, the spokesman for the Saudi coalition asserted that “there is no team from Human Rights Watch on the ground. We hope that Human Rights Watch and the other NGOs come to the coalition and ask permission and we will send them down to investigate.”

Belkis Wille, Human Rights Watch’s Yemen and Kuwait researcher, has made four trips to Yemen for Human Rights Watch since the beginning of the campaign. She posted a video in response, showing her standing in the remains of a destroyed market in Matstaba, in Northern Yemen:

Human rights groups have documented repeated uses in Yemen of cluster bombs: shell casings that, when they open, scatter thousands of miniature explosives over a huge area. Some of the bomblets invariably fail to detonate on impact, leaving mine-like explosives that kill civilians and destroy farmland long after a conflict ends.

Saudi Arabia has repeatedly denied using cluster bombs, but in January, for example, one 13-year-old boy from Noug’a, a small village 20 miles from the Saudi border in Yemen, discovered cluster bomblets near the village spring, according to an interview with Amnesty International. The boy said that that the miniature explosives were green, and “shaped like a small ball you could play with.” When the boy picked one up and threw it out of the way, it exploded. He was hospitalized for two months.

The U.N. adopted a treaty banning cluster bombs in 2008, which 119 nations have signed.

Last week, The Intercept asked State Department spokesman Mark Toner at a press briefing whether the Saudis should stop using cluster bombs. He replied “I’d have to refer you to the Saudis to speak to the types of strikes that they did carry out in Yemen.”

But while refusing to publicly condemn Saudi Arabia for using cluster weapons, the White House quietly blocked a transfer of U.S.-made CBU-105 cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia last week.

Iraqi Kurds Hope to Do Business With Japan, China, South Korea
http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20160604/1040769161/kurdistan-cooperation-far-east.html

Iraqi Kurdistan is seeking to do business Japan, China and South Korea, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) representative to the United States Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman told Sputnik.

"We are trying to promote our economic future and investment opportunities all over the world," Rahman said, noting that the KRG endorses business relations with neighboring countries, Turkey, Iran and the Gulf states. "[W]e talk to [all] about investment and trade, but we have also always looked further afield both to Europe and the United States. Very recently we’ve also started to think about the Far East, and by that I mean Japan, China, South Korea."

Rahman noted that some Russian oil companies have concluded contracts in the Kurdistan region.

On Thursday, Assistant US Trade Representative for South Asia Michael Delaney stated that many US companies consider Iraqi Kurdistan as base for conducting business throughout Iraq.

The Iraqi Kurdistan autonomous region in the country's north is a part of the historic Kurdish region, parts of which also belong to Syria, Iran and Turkey. The region has its own government, parliament and armed forces.
