I thought it might be good to open a thread on Egypt as things are developing fast on many fronts and to keep a track on that country too. The Egyptian president has since quite some time deviated from the line of being a complete puppet of the US and Saudi Arabia. He has sought closer contacts with Russia and this too has made him a target for regime change. A few days ago, he upped the ante in a speech at the American Islamic Summit in Riyadh. Like President Duterte in the Philippines has discovered, then speaking out against the empire has unpleasant consequences. Egypt could find itself on the list for regime change.

The response was not late to arrive. This morning a bus was attacked and with at least 28 dead and 24 injured:

It should be noted that the morning after that the Egyptian President Sisi had criticized the US tomahawk attack in Syria, 2 Coptic churces were attacked in Egypt with at least 48 killed and many wounded.

If someone is trying to silence President Sisi, then it appears that he is not listening or perhaps he is listening more to advice from new allies such as Russia.

Egypt's President Sisi drops a depth charge in midst of American Islamic Summit: Shames supporters of terrorism

Whatever criticisms may be justifiably levied at Egypt's President Al Sisi, the speech he gave at the American Islamic Summit should go down in history as one of the bravest attacks on supporters of terrorism, whilst in their midst. The consternation of the primary terrorism creators and drivers, the Gulf State members, is palpable, as is the frantic tea-making and serving, as a distraction from the weight and power of Sisi's words. Each barb hit home, Israel, Gulf States, the US, the EU, Turkey, nobody was omitted from the roll call of criminal terrorism support, sponsoring, promotion and funding.
Of course this speech was given zero air-time by western corporate media outlets, as it also exposed their promotion of the terror groups wreaking violent, murderous havoc across the region. Watch history in the making ~

Children among dozens killed as gunmen ambush convoy of Egyptian Coptic Christians
Gunmen opened fire on two buses and a truck carrying Coptic Christians in Minya, Egypt on Friday, killing at least 28, including children. Some 24 people were also injured in the attack.
The group of between eight and 10 gunmen, reportedly dressed in military uniforms according to eyewitnesses, approached the convoy in three four-wheel-drive pickup trucks before opening fire, according to local media reports and the Egyptian Interior Ministry.
"They used automatic weapons," Essam el-Bedaiwy, governor of Minya told state television as cited by AFP.
Heavily armed special forces and local police established a perimeter around the scene and launched a hunt for the attackers, setting up dozens of roadblocks in the area and sending out patrols to scour the desert road.
The Grand Imam of al-Azhar Ahmad al-Tayeb believes the attack was intended to destabilize the country. Al-Azhar is a center of Islamic learning in Egypt that dates back more than 1,000.
"I call on Egyptians to unite in the face of this brutal terrorism," al-Tayeb said while on a visit to Germany, as cited by Reuters.
The shooting, which occurred on the eve of Ramadan, happened as the victims travelled from Beni Suef province to the Coptic Orthodox Anba Samuel monastery near the southern city of Minya, 250km (155 miles) south of Cairo, according to local security sources, cited by Haaretz.
There is no immediate claim of responsibility. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called an emergency meeting of security officials in the wake of Friday’s attack, Reuters reports.
Al-Bedaiwy confirmed the preliminary death toll, reports Reuters.
Ambulances dispatched from the cities of Beni Suef and Minya are transporting victims to local hospitals in Adwa, Minya, Maghagha, according to local news outlet Youm7.
The US Embassy in Cairo warned of an imminent but unspecified terrorist attack on the night of May 24.
“The Embassy is aware of a potential threat posted on a website by the Hassm Group, a known terrorist organization, suggesting some kind of unspecified action this evening,” the Egypt mission said in a statement.
The three-month state of emergency, declared in the wake of the Palm Sunday bombings in Tanta and Alexandria, is yet to expire.
On April 9, twin suicide bombs targeting Coptic Christians killed at least 44 people and injured more than 118 in Tanta and Alexandria. Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Coptic Christians make up roughly 10 percent of Egypt's population of 92 million and are the Middle East’s largest Christian community.
It should be noted that the morning after that the Egyptian President Sisi had criticized the US tomahawk attack in Syria, 2 Coptic churces were attacked in Egypt with at least 48 killed and many wounded.

An explosion has occurred in front of St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral, Alexandria, killing six and injuring 21 according to Egypt's Health Ministry as cited by the AP. This follows a suspected bomb attack in Tanta, Egypt earlier Sunday morning.
Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria, had finished celebrating Palm Sunday mass and had left the scene when the explosion took place. He is reported unhurt.
The Egypt Independent reported a heightened security presence and that authorities had been placed on alert in anticipation of such attacks on Palm Sunday.
The attack earlier this morning at St. George's Coptic church in Tanta, approximately 130 km (80 miles) southeast of Alexandria killed at least 21 people and injured a further 38.
An image uploaded to Twitter corroborated by RT shows the scene at Al Akbat, a street adjacent to the Cathedral, following the blast.
No group has claimed responsibility for either blast so far and no relation between the two has been established.
Violence against Coptic christians has risen in recent years following the military coup in 2013. A bomb attack outside a Coptic cathedral in Cairo killed 25 and wounded 49 people in December of last year.
Crowds can be seen gathered at Al Akbat Church street in video corroborated by RT uploaded to YouTube following the blast.
Comment: Update: RT is reporting that ISIS has claimed responsibility for both attacks:
This follows another suicide bomb attack in Tanta, Egypt earlier Sunday morning. ISIS have claimed responsibility for both bomb attacks in Egypt.

Ali Mahmud Mohammed Hasan, who was detained on Tuesday, was included in the list of 19 persons suspected of organizing the attacks, the Veto media outlet reported.
On April 9, powerful explosions hit Coptic churches in the Egyptian cities of Tanta and Alexandria, with the Islamic State (IS) terror group, outlawed in Russia, claiming responsibility for the attacks. The blast in Alexandria claimed at least 18 lives, while the explosion in Tanta left at least 30 dead. Police have already arrested three people suspected of organizing the attacks.
On the same day Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi declared a three-month state of emergency.
If someone is trying to silence President Sisi, then it appears that he is not listening or perhaps he is listening more to advice from new allies such as Russia.

Egyptian fighter jets have struck militant camps following the deadly attack on Egypt's Coptic Christians, President Abdel Fattah Sisi has announced. The strikes were carried out in eastern Libya, state television said.
Egypt's president also vowed to continue striking bases used to train militants and who carry out terrorist attacks in his country, regardless of the camps' location.
He also reiterated that the countries financing, training and arming terrorists should not get away unpunished.
"We will not hesitate to protect our people from the evil," he said in a televised speech on Friday.
Egypt carried out six air strikesiin Derna in eastern Libya, state television reported adding that it is where the militants who carried out the deadly attack on the Coptic Christians were trained.
Egypt's military said that the air strikes are ongoing, local media reports.
The Egyptian president also directly addressed Donald Trump to take the lead in fighting terrorism.
"I direct my appeal to President Trump: I trust you, your word and your ability to make fighting global terror your primary task," he said.
On Friday President Trump condemned the attacks on Egypt's Coptic Christians, denouncing the "thuggish ideology" and "evil organizations of terror."
