Digital media can be used for good, but I don't see much 'transcendence' happening. Take a look at the Pokemon Go thread and you can see the opposite of development and growth. People seem to be disintegrating into mindless robots.

Or both simultaneously as befitting our times? part of the choice for those capable of making it perhaps... the ole separating the wheat from the chaff? graduation etc... perhaps something similar to what's happening to the animals? Let's face it, this whole Pokemon Go! thing is laughably ridiculous. the easily distracted are easily disposed with.... using a sports analogy, this is seems like we're heading into the playoffs and all the 'other' teams are left behind for next season... always next season, osis. And all of tech is but tools for those based in physicality to play with their best hand in this card game... but this tech is simply knowledge applied anyway, right? so, again the question of how it is used.... for offense or defense or simply in exploration of the unknown? Isn't it always and forever the same?

Double edged sword it can be.
It makes a massive tool for learning and communicating, but offers as much ,if not more , means for fall of humanity.
What Reneaissance said, just look at Pokemon go.. then there is FB, dark web, tracking via PC and mobile internet, etc.
I see it similar to what G said about music: it can both build up walls or destroy them.
