Has anyone reed Daniel Quinn, especially is most famous book "Ishmael"?

I just finished reading it. What I found most interesting, among some other things, was the reach, in terms of time, of our greed based society (the mind frame that just wants more and more, and screws everyone else), and the ability of our "mother culture" to cloak it from us.
According to his story (which he says may not be the real one, but is one that makes sense) this psychopathic worldview started with the "discovery" of agriculture, where the people who started practicing it (Cain) destroyed and stole land from the hunter-gatherers (Abel), so they could have more and more, even more than what they needed.
So according to this view the seeds of our psychopathic culture were planted some 8000 or 10000 years ago and as Lobaczewski wrote:

Hedonism, the pursuit of the accumulation of benefits for the sole purpose of self-enjoyment, feeds the eternal cycle where good times lead to bad times.
Could this be applied here, the good times being the temporal space between the "discovey" of agriculture and the bad times that seem to be on the horizon now?
