Recently I saw this documentary on Janis Joplin, prior to that I saw one on Bob Weir, member of The Grateful Dead. The things that came to my mind is that before, whenever a musician died and everyone was crying over them I thought how nonsense was crying for someone who was a junky and died on an overdose. But after watching this ones and the one on Amy Winehouse (that made me cry :( ) I think I was wrong in some way.
This people were really putting lyrics and music out to the world to try to make a change, and with that idea it made me think about how fragile they were in that generation, full of drugs and people trying to take advantage of them. I won't like to say they were saints, but as for what I've seen they struggled a lot in life, almost always being the outcast, and drug was the easiest escape. One of the things mentioned several times is that they were truly trying to spread a message, feeling loved while on stage, but after an hour feeling lonely as hell..
So this things made me think about the fragility of this people, the COINTELPRO involved in the LSD movement, and all the chaos that was occurring in that time.. so could it be that maybe they were targets also? Dunno, just some thoughts.
