Judgement Day 365.2425

The Force is Strong With This One

So I survived 2012/12/21. And taking the risk of assuming this is not a Descartian thought experiment, or the bastard child of The Matrix 7.4 and Inception, it looks like everyone else I know did too. For many the “End of the World” has close connotations to Judgement Day. Personally I have no religious disposition(s), and find the idea of a deity steeping to such a level, vulgar. But what I did realise, is that when it comes to passing judgement(s), no gods come close to homo sapiens. Yes, our brains are biologically wired to make impressions about others in milliseconds. But we are too self absorbed and lazy to after this first impression (mostly informed by decades of cultivating stereotypes, ignorance and misinformation), to stop and start engaging our frontal lobes, and just think a bit further. We shouldn't worry about gods judging us, we need to start worrying about being judged in the same callous, reckless way that we judge others. They, Them, You People, Their Type. But we are also our own worst judges. Mostly either far too strict or far too lenient. Hypothetically speaking, we have and are perpetually dragging our entire species through hell. Judge things for yourself. But judge with care. Let the only judge you account to be yourself. However, not the self behind all the façades and masks. Not the one hiding behind the fake Louis Vuiton handbag, or the La Cost golf shirt. And if you are able to look that person in the eye, and judge them as fairly as you should judge everyone else, and you can accept and love them, then you need never fear the judgement of any man nor god.

This is my first post - hope it conforms to all conventions.

What you write above is very insightful and definitely one of the main things we "work on" here. But I would say that the last part is a bit backward, that what we want to get to IS the self "behind the facades and masks, the one hiding behind the bags and shirts. Perhaps you meant to say that?

Now, maybe you would like to tell us a bit about yourself - the self behind the facades and masks, not necessarily about the bag and shirts?

I think that I mispharsed myself. It is exactly the I behind the masks and façades that we need to be able to access and face, and live with.
I have difficulty talking about myself, perhaps it would be easier if you wanted to ask some questions?
Some things I do know
I can be the biggest idealist and the biggest cynic. I believe that at the core most people want to and will do their best if circumstances permit. I don't think we have really learnt from our history, but I believe it is possible if we are able to somehow integrate all its lessons and great teachers. Sometimes my species disappoints me. One of our biggest problems is that we live too fast. But I guess that now I've spoken more about my ideas than myself...

Yeah just looking around the world seems we're slow learners especially reading ancient accounts of people / nations etc squabbling over very similar things. What sort of great teachers have you come by?
