Katy Perry video: the predicament of humanity

It wouldn't surprise me if Katy Perry was contracted from some political organization on the left. Same with Madonna and others. Of course it might be that they fully agree with the nonsense they're putting out there, but at this level pop stars usually don't have any agency of their own. In fact, when you look at the past 15+ years, there have been very, very few musicians who make any such statements. The Dixie Chicks and Roger Waters are really the only ones who come to mind.

In any case, this video is kind of interesting not just because it assumes the metaphors of an asleep society, but because it's totally tuned on it's head. You see a whole range of commentators from those like Peter Lavelle on RT's CrossTalk to talking heads on CNN who say they feel like they're living in an alternate reality. Both sides feel a strong contrast in the divergent perspectives being presented to the public, but of course one is more based in reality while the other is not. The status quo is being questioned in such a big way, that those who fully accept it feel that there is this false reality being imposed on them, and they can't make heads or tails of it. Some may just not have the capacity to question things too deeply, and maybe they don't have the harsher life experience that forces a re-examination of their beliefs and values. People having a hard time making ends meet are more inclined to actually see what isn't working and they simply aren't going to care as much about the frivolous, over-the-top, and often times completely bogus concerns of the left. The new left lacks perspective. They're more concerned with micro-aggressions and fantastical evils than the very basic things that cause difficulty for most people.

Bottom line, Katy Perry makes it all cool. The hypnotist makes a reference to hypnosis to further deeply hypnotize the hypnotized.

That's my impression too. It creates willful agreement: "So comfortable, we're living in a bubble, bubble" -- Yeah, why not? The 'revolt' part was just thrown in there to make the rest of the song less suspicious IMO.

yes and also the kind of "happy" dance music for me was always contradictory to this kind of songs and visuals that are actually sad and packed in "happy" rhythm, but for young people that she is referring to, it might be a quite misleading ... more like it is "cool" no meter that it is actually horrible ... and kids will dance on that, because pop industry will play it on and on, and I am not sure how many, in that context, will get AHA moment ... I guess that mostly no one will really get involved to think about anything, and maybe that is a goal .. like we are not denying horrible reality, but we are not making it as a big deal, but quite opposite ... this song is more like joking around that, pointing how that is just cool ....

The image of hypnotic spirals came to mind, especially after viewing a bit of the second Katy Perry video linked to in this thread. I guess the one could take the place of the other- bright "happy" images/hypnotic spirals. I guess it's also meant to be disturbing
