Tonight I was outside having a smoke and watching my cats run around and chase each other and nothing at all.
At one point my cat was halfway up a tree stalking a jay. The cat would inch forward, the bird would hop up a branch, alert but unconcerned. The cat was all intensity and focus.
I said.. out loud even "Kitty, haven't you yet learned that birds have wings."
He got about a foot away and the bird leisurely flew off to the adjacent tree. I laughed... silly kitty. When will he learn.....sigh
Then I wondered if that isn't an awful lot like us. Compelled to do things by forces, instincts, that we think we control, all the time trying to learn that 'birds have wings' and maybe somewhere someone is watching us having a smoke and a good laugh.
