At least two people have died in a powerful 7.4 earthquake that struck the south east coast of the Philippines on Friday. Authorities had initially issued evacuation warnings following tsunami threats; however, these have now been lifted.

So, this isn't a currency for China alone, but a joint currency for the BRICS countries. Something similar was already proposed two years ago, when the BRICS summit was held in Kazan, Russia:

The BRICS summit in Kazan was almost exactly a year ago. Then Trump was elected two weeks later and in December he threatened 100% tariffs on the BRICS if they go ahead with their own currency. That may be the main reason why it was postponed.

Let me clarify. The first BRICS banknotes were unveiled on September 6, 2023, after the Johannesburg summit (August 22-24, 2023). At the 2024 Kazan summit, BRICS banknotes were presented to Putin.

So, BRICS currency was discussed long before Trump. His (Trump's) chatter and threats hardly bother anyone. The main reason is that the BRICS countries themselves have been unable to agree on currency parameters for a long time. The main friction is obviously between China and India.
