Les Miserables--recent movie/muscial version

The Living Force
This is one of those productions that I've never seen, like "Gone with the Wind", "It's a Wonderful Life" etc. ;D

I read up on the basic story before taking my niece to see it this week. She's twenty, and is an avid singer(choir, musicals, all of that). She'd been in the musical in High School, and was horrified I'd never seen this before. I like a number of the actors in it, so we went. (She's convinced me to see the upcoming 'Great Gatsby' with her next. Never seen that one either.)

On the whole, I liked it. The singing was amazing. What I didn't like? The over emphasis on Christianity, but I never get on well with that. The 'romance' was so over done....my niece was laughing at me when it came to the duet between Cossette and Marius, and I told her if it were me happening upon these two idiots, I'd bang their heads together.

We were there in the afternoon, and most of the people in the theater were older women, my age and up. Much crying took place...I had a box of Puffs with me, and shared. I don't generally cry at movies. The singing didn't get to me until the barricade scenes, and I cried despite part of my brain that said "this is rubbish...".

There is no 3D for this, in case its a concern.

My niece loved it so much we went to a Barnes and Nobles and picked up the soundtrack. I got one just for the background singers, duets, etc. The only singer I didn't like as well was Amanda Seifried, her soprano register was strained enough to wince in the ears.
(That could just be my ears, though.)

I'd like to see this one again, as I missed the first few songs, having gotten stuck in an elevator taking a rest room break.

I saw it last night and thought it was stunning. The high def cinematography was so amazing it felt like you were present. I am not a big fan of musicals, especially ones like this where it is all singing, but much of the acting was so intense the music seemed
to flow naturally. I really enjoyed it.

Hubby took me to see it again, since I got stuck in an elevator and missed the first 15 minutes. Second time around was much more enjoyable, I think, because it was possible to really listen to the singing, which pretty much told the story. The sound track is wonderful.

I saw this last week, and as mentioned, 'the high def cinematography was so amazing it felt like you were present'. I thoroughly enjoyed the singing too and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

There was a mixed range of people when I attended, including families. I didn't cry until the last scene, the song accompanying the death and 'transition' of the 'hero'.

Highly recommended.
