BROOKE COUNTY, W. Va. -- Emergency Management Agency officials said they've closed their investigation after reports of a loud boom and flashing lights.

Residents said their homes shook and windows broke when a white flash was followed by a loud boom heard throughout central Brooke County Wednesday night.

EMA officials said there is no indication as to what it could have been and they've received no other complaints.

At 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, several fire trucks responded to the area around Reeves Drive in Wellsburg, where most of the reports originated.

Brooke County Emergency Management Agency director Bob Fowler said local firefighters contacted Pittsburgh International Airport to determine if any aircraft were missing, but no aviation problems were reported.

Terry Stuck, second assistant for the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department said, "There was some type of explosion and a flash of fire reported, there were explosives heard in numerous parts of Brooke County."

Local resident Dave Carbasho told NEWS9 he was inside his trailer when he heard the loud noise, "It was a loud sound like a bomb and sounded like a cannon or something going off."

Stuck said fire officials responded and searched the area but came up empty-handed.
