From the article;

A Sydney University student has for the first time used radio telescopes like a giant pair of electronic eyes to locate huge plasma tubes in the atmosphere that interfere with astronomy observations and which could affect some civilian and military navigation systems.

Scientists have long thought that the interaction of the earth's magnetic field with energy from the sun would create huge tubes of plasma. But they have never been able to directly observe them over large scales or determine their shape. Until now.
..

Ms Loi, who graduated in March, had to overcome the initial scepticism of senior colleagues who thought her observations were too good to be true.

Her undergraduate supervisor, Dr Tara Murphy, said: "It is to Cleo's great credit that she not only discovered this but also convinced the rest of the scientific community. As an undergraduate student with no prior background in this, that is an impressive achievement.

"When they first saw the data, many of her senior collaborators thought the results were literally 'too good to be true' and that the observation process had somehow corrupted the findings. But over the next few months, Cleo managed to convince them that they were both real and scientifically interesting."

The tubes are in the earth's upper atmosphere, known as the ionosphere, which largely consists of ionised oxygen. The ionosphere is so called because photons from the sun dislodge electrons from otherwise neutral atoms in this layer of the atmosphere, creating a soup or plasma of electronically charged particles. This plasma interacts with the earth's magnetic field, creating field-aligned ducts of the plasma.
..
Ms Loi told Fairfax Media that tubes "almost certainly stretch upwards into the plasmasphere", where ionised hydrogen and helium are more prevalent.

"For more than 60 years, scientists believed these structures existed but by imaging them for the first time, we've provided visual evidence that they are really there," said Ms Loi of the ARC Centre of Excellence for All-sky Astrophysics (CAASTRO) at the University of Sydney.

There is also a moving gif image on the page showing the actual visual information of the tubes as well as a simulation video.

That is super fascinating and suggests one possible reason why EM events at widely spaced places on the planet could be connected, such as storms, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc.

I remember reading somewhere that the ancients actually saw "tubes" dangling from the Sun and similar things in the sky. Who knows what conditions might cause them to become super strong and even visible.

Precisely. What conditions in the environment as well as what conditions of the inhabitants themselves within the environment.

Also, if a sensitive person were able to tune in through these tubes, they could possibly receive information about the events going on at the other end. This could probably be done technologically as well as psychically.

They seem to be a type of conduit at any rate.
It just explains a lot actually.

And perhaps also these:

(Galatea) Are people and things that once disappeared a long time ago going to be reappearing?

A: Yes

Q: (Galatea) Cool! A Viking ship...

(Scottie) Showing up in our pond!

(Perceval) There was that story somewhere about World War II planes... it was a movie. I don't think it was real, but WWII planes fly through a dimensional hole and they come out later.

(Pierre) There are many stories about old sailboats from antiquity that are being witnessed.

(L) Well, you know that thing that happened to us before Galatea was born... For half an hour to an hour, these World War II type propeller planes flew over our house in Florida. It was the night of the auroras, and the sky was all red and it smelled like cinnamon. It was like an electromagnetic phenomenon going on, and I think it created a warp in space-time, and we actually were seeing something that was happening in another time.

(Perceval) You were seeing the skies over WWII Europe?

(L) Maybe we were. It's unlikely that anybody would have that many propeller planes in 1989? Just one after another, on and on and on they went...

(Andromeda) I remember more the red sky, the smell of cinnamon, and the crackling in the air.

(L) It was a really wild experience. Those planes just kept going, and going, and going. I stopped counting at about 100. We're talking about hundreds of planes. That was insane.

(Pierre) Was there a link with Galatea 's birth?

(L) I just remember it because...

(Perceval) Galatea fell out of one of the planes - instead of a stork bringing her.

(Andromeda) I remember I went into the house to check on a baby...

(L) I think that was Athena, and I was pregnant with Galatea. ...

(Andromeda) That I don't remember.

(L) And another thing about it was that it was several months after a late season tropical storm in November of the previous year. Okay, what were we witnessing when we saw all those planes flying over?

A: Bombers flying over Europe 1943.

And maybe even things like UFO hot spots and MH370?
