Meanwhile in Mexico, gas prices increase and electricity

The government of the State of Mexico (part of the metro area of Mexico City) where the most intense acts looting took place, has informed this morning (Mexico central time, CST in the US) that:

(Links are in Spanish, sorry about that)

430 persons have been detained, 255 males, 51 women and 124 minors.

The department stores association (Antad) has informed that so far a total of 250 stores have been looted across the country.

The Secretary of Public Security of the State of Mexico just informed that 9 thousand police officers have been deployed to prevent any further looting.

And this just a partial picture of the events that have transpired in the first 4 days of 2017. Smaller businesses have been affected, having to close early or at all, major highways have been paralyzed as they were taken by protesters, as well as tollbooths, causing havoc and endless lines of cars, gas stations have also been taken and looted.

While at the same time there are indications that the looting has been promoted and reported by Twitter bots and fake accounts.

I was also thinking that the places where the marines and military are "keeping the people safe," have been part of the most dangerous parts in Mexico City for the past months; Ecatepec and Naucalpan for example have had lots of feminicides, robberies, kidnapping. Maybe this is not related, but it did caught my eye.

A big protest will take place the 7th of Jan, and what I can see in my FB is people are realizing all this groups that are looting and vandalizing are not the "normal" civilians so to speak that really want to protest in a correct way, so this is something good. But also I was thinking about this protest and what may happen if this same people looting and creating chaos will also come to the protest.. (Which is something I believe could happen, since we saw that happening in other protests)

4 Killed, 700 Arrested In Mexico Protests Following Neoliberal Reforms

http://www.mintpressnews.com/4-killed-700-arrested-mexico-protests-following-neoliberal-reforms/223887/

(REPORT) — Protests over a double-digit hike in gasoline prices in Mexico continue in at least 22 states of the country, officials said on Friday, as they confirmed that the wave of violent lootings and blockades has left three people dead and at least 700 arrested.

Business leaders estimate that some 1,000 shops and companies have been looted or vandalized this week as others closed over fears of being robbed.

Protesters argue that the government’s decision to raise fuel prices by up to 20 percent has no justification in an oil-rich country, but the government insists that the move responds to international prices and not a result of the government’s neoliberal reforms.

On Thursday night President Enrique Peña Nieto used a nationally televised New Year’s address to defend the increase, again.

“It is a difficult change, but as president, it is precisely my responsibility to take difficult decisions in the present to avoid major problems in the future,” said Peña Nieto, whose approval rating has fallen below 23 percent.

The unpopular leader said that keeping the same prices would have cost the government US$9.3 billion, forcing the suspension of health care and welfare programs.

Emotional hook and not to mention that the healthcare system has been said to us is "on the brink of collapse" - ready to be privatized.

“I ask you, what would you have done?” he said.

While acknowledging the widespread anger, Peña Nieto said he would forge ahead with the liberalized or deregulated price scheme, which removes fuel subsidies and allow gasoline prices to be determined by prevailing international prices.

Meanwhile, the state-run oil company PEMEX has denounced blockades on roads that give access to fuel storage terminals and has warned that if the situation continues it could trigger a crisis of shortages and aggravate the problem.

Some have speculated that the looting and vandalism has been led by allegedly “infiltrated” groups, in a move that staunch critics of Peña Nieto’s administration claim is intended to create chaos in the country and undermine social protests, setting the basis for the targeting of activists as criminals.

The increases, which applied to both gasoline and diesel, will subsequently raise food, transportation and other costs, analysts warn.

As domestic unrest grows in Mexico amid gas price hikes and tensions mount over Trumpian policies, AP reports that Mexican prosecutors said Saturday they are searching for a gunman who opened fire on, and wounded an official of the U.S. consulate in the western city of Guadalajara. While motive is unclear, the shooting appeared to be a direct attempt to kill the consular employee

As CBS reports, surveillance video of the attack shows the gunman following the official in a parking garage. The official, whose name was not released, was dressed in shorts.

The attacker doesn’t appear to try to approach the official. Instead, the gunman waits for him to exit the parking garage and fires a round into a car’s windshield.

The U.S. Consulate posted several clips of CCTV video related to the incident on its Facebook page.

Political scenario in Sonora,Mexico.
About Sonora:
Before, It was called "Sonora Desert Region", borders were established and now are the states of Sonora, Mexico and Arizona, U.S.A.

The towns were divided in: Nogales, Mexico and Nogales, Arizona, San Luis, Mexico San Luis, Arizona, Naco, Sonora and Naco, Arizona and later, some of these towns became cities.
I write this so that the news is understood in the border of Nogales.

This is the news:

The train impacted the frontier port that was advancing towards U.S.A. (Google translation)

The Sun of Hermosillo
Monday 9 January 2017

Nogales, Son.- After dawn yesterday, police corporations peacefully evicted protesters who prevented the passage of the train in Nogales, Sonora, the site was the scene of new disturbances, where two agents of the PESP were injured.
Through a statement, the Ministry of Public Security informed that, in response to the request of productive sectors such as Ford plant, mining industry, among others and before the complaints filed in the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, for obstructing communication channels, Implemented a joint operation between the three levels of government in that border and thus open the way to the train.
The complaint filed with PGR by Ferrocarril Mexicano S.A. Of C.V. Was due to the obstruction of communication routes, a transboundary railroad port, obstructing the intersection of trade between Mexico and the United States, an offense under article 167 of the Federal Penal Code.
At the request of the PGR, the operation was carried out in which the Federal Ministerial Police, State Police Investigator, State Police of Public Security, Federal and Municipal Police participated to remove the blockade. This was because, on both sides of the border, there were a total of 11 trains detained, and more than a thousand freight wagons were stationary, so there was an imminent risk of a technical stoppage at the Ford plant, the supply of gas to The maquiladora industry and the state's productive sector.
The impact of the blockade on the railroad tracks at the border crossing would affect more than 90 suppliers in Mexico; In Sonora, more than 3 500 jobs would be affected and with that around 27 thousand 500 families that depend on these industries.
The operation was carried out with confidence, respecting the human rights of those present and without applying force, although the arrest of two people in flagrancy, Jorge H. of 52 years and Francisco C. also of 52 years of age by Not allowing the passage of the train, which were given before the corresponding authority.
It should be noted that the demonstration was respected and protection was given to it by the corporations of the three levels of government, ensuring that there was no harm against the citizens and allowing the free expression of them.

BLOCKING IS MAINTAINED

Until the closing of this edition, it is known that after the violent acts and the assaults between demonstrators and police, the latter withdrew from the place, returning the demonstrators to take the railroad tracks, where they ensure they will stay until they are given Reversal in the increase in the price of fuels. (End of the diary note)

The peaceful and violent demonstrations continue in the main cities of the country and if the protests of the nonconformists in Nogales continue there is risk of a conflict between the two countries.

I am getting an indication that this was a calculated operation, with planing and inside information of the victims movements. What did the victim know?

So where, and how was the firearm obtained, (if it is indeed, the very same prep). Or how was the gun brought into the country?

Gringos are not allowed to cross the border with any type of weapons. Same here in France.

Mexican officials in coordination with the FBI detained the 32-year-old American Zia Zafar, who was reportedly recently turned to Islam, as likely responsible for firing on January 6 an official of the US Consulate General in Guadalajara, Jalisco .

The credit card payment he made in a coffee shop near the Arcos Vallarta colony in Guadalajara, where he attacked the US official, led to Zafar's location.

At the home where the accused was captured were found the glasses and the wig that is presumed used during the aggression, since at the time of his arrest looks shaved.

As a result of the attack, the images of the surveillance cameras of the area of the aggression were revised to trace, from there, the previous route that followed the attacker until the diplomat.

The cameras revealed that Zia Zafar had previously been in a Starbucks coffee shop. In the images of the cameras of the establishment shows that the man wore at that time the wig and dark glasses, which he carried when he attacked the victim, identified by the British newspaper The Guardian as Christopher Nolan Ashcraft.

The credit card he used to pay for coffee allowed the authorities to locate the owner's home and arrest the alleged attacker.

Investigations indicate that Zia Zafar's last legal entry to Mexico was on November 25, 2016, on American Eagle flight 5939 from Phoenix, Arizona, which arrived in Guadalajara at 1:38 p.m.

The images of the airport of the capital Jalisco show Zafar entering by the filter 19 completely shaved and wearing a sports jacket of black and white color.

The American is kept watching the moment a person from the migration area checks his documents.

This Sunday afternoon, in a joint press release, the Attorney General's Office (PGR) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported that the detainee will be expelled and repatriated to the United States, to be the authorities of that Defining their legal status.

"In accordance with the coordinated actions between the Attorney General of the State of Jalisco and the competent Mexican federal authorities, in close collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Embassy of the United States of America in Mexico and the Consulate General of That country in Guadalajara, the location and assurance of an individual of American nationality, allegedly involved in this incident, was obtained and that he will be expelled and repatriated to the United States of America, where his juridical situation will be determined, "he said.

The document reports that both units have been in contact with relatives of the victim and have been aware of the health status of Nolan Ashcraft, who is currently reported stable.

The PGR and the SRE indicated that coordinated actions were taken with the Attorney General of the State of Jalisco and with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to clarify the facts.

"Since the occurrence of this unfortunate incident, both units have given timely follow-up and attention to it, in coordination with local and federal authorities, and maintained a permanent communication with the diplomatic and consular representatives of the United States of America," they said.

Mexican and US officials will continue to carry out investigations that lead to the clearing of the motive for the attack.

According to the investigation, Zia Zafar was born on January 1, 1985 and was confirmed to have recently become a sympathizer of Islam.

On January 6, at 6:20 p.m., surveillance cameras caught a black-haired, dark-eyed man wearing a blue and purple sweater and pants, waiting in the parking lot of a tower on Avenida Vallarta, Colony Arcos Vallarta, in Guadalajara, and seeing a black Honda Fit, where the victim was traveling, is seen approaching to shoot on a single occasion and then running away from the place.

Nolan Ashcraft received an impact on the breast of a 380 caliber weapon; Because the shot was accurate, based on that the authorities presume that Zafar has training in the handling of weapons.

The FBI immediately took part in the investigations and offered a $ 20,000 reward to anyone who submitted information related to the case.

On Saturday night, the US Embassy issued a security alert in which it asked its residents in Guadalajara to avoid leaving unless necessary, to move only from home to work and to change their daily routes constantly.

"As long as the investigation into the shooting continues against an employee of the consulate, a request is made to US citizens in the Guadalajara area to restrict their departures to the strictly essential and limit them to their homes or places of work," embassy.

In that same alert of trip to the state of Jalisco, the American government asked to avoid unnecessary transfers to the zones f.

Elektra store looting was well organized
Security cameras captured arrival of thieves in a bus accompanied by escort vehicles
http://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/elektra-store-looting-was-well-organized/

looters-2-400x267.jpg

Looting is more commonly associated with rioting mobs but in one case last week, when gas price protests turned violent, one store was looted with organized precision.

It was about 10:00 January 4 when a bus, escorted by three cars and two motorcycles, pulled up across the road from an Elektra store in the municipality of Nicolás Romero.

Passengers exited the bus, halted traffic in the other lane, crossed the road and entered the store.

Then they began hauling out the loot: televisions, sound systems and other goods. After 10 minutes they were done.

The thieves carried their stolen loot aboard the bus, which left the scene in the company of its escort vehicles. The entire incident was recorded by security cameras.

However, the thieves didn’t get far. Seven adults and 12 youths were detained as they got off the bus shortly after.

The state government said surveillance videos indicate the theft was not spontaneous, but had been organized ahead of time. Cameras had captured the vehicles circulating in the area before they arrived at the Elektra store.

As of yesterday, charges were being processed against 112 people in connection with the widespread looting that took place in the State of México over the course of a few days.

Nicolás Romero was among the worst hit; the violence that accompanied the protests against gas price increases resulted in the closure of stores for fear of looters, the halting of public transit and police operations against mobs of looters. Taxis as well chose to suspend service.

The looting of the Elektra store raised red flags for other businesses in the area, and gas stations and other businesses closed soon after.

I reported last week that most local residents in eastern Mexican State said much of the violence and looting was being done by groups working with the PRI government to discredit legitimate protests.

It seems to have worked, since the government-owned media spent all last week reporting on the violence and looting, while failing to mention the rejection of the price increase by all segments of Mexican society - well, at least those not tied to the PRI party.

A few days ago, the Employers Confederation of Mexico (Coparmex) refused to sign onto an agreement the PRI government tried to rush together to justify the gas price increase. Coparmex called the agreement an improvised P.R. stunt. They said the gas price hike was unjust with Pemex so poorly run, and so much corruption and waste in government. And that it was difficult to ask the public to pay more for gas when they get so little from government, citing the example of rising crimes rates.

(I'm not sure why MND hasn't reported on this farcical "agreement" and Coparmex's righteous refusal to sign.)
