Meeting in Real Life

Hello to All...

I discovered this forum almost two years ago, read the Wave series and several other books from the reading list, changed my diet and try to do the EE breathing exercises on a regular basis.
In the beginning I tried to talk to my friends about what I read here and in Sott, but most of them were not interested,
others even reacted in a strong negative way.
The forum is a great source of inspiration, but sometimes I feel that I would also like to connect on a more personal basis, actually talking to someone like-minded. Living in a very large city I assume that there might be forum members in my vicinity, we even might pass by each other without knowing!

I never heard that people here actually meet (except in the Chateau) and would like to ask if there is a reason for it, if this is discouraged for some reason or maybe nobody had had this idea before?

Thanks, Emmeya

I think people are just very far apart, as a case in point I live in Cape Town , South Africa and know of no-one who is interested in this material, getting exactly the same reactions as you have received so graciously from your friends.

I have literally had 3 people ask in the last 3 years, and I had great conversations with them, but always very brief because it was at a friend's party, for example, and being very drunk (in one case) does not help having a rational conversation at all. Also bad stuff seemed to happen each time afterwards, but I think I can mitigate that now, since they were all borne of ignorant and irrational (in hindsight) decisions made by one person --- me .

I would love to meet people in my area who would be interested, but I have found only 1 or 2 other South Africans on the forums and SOTT.net and one was from Durban, other side of the country :P

I think having a book club type of thing would be really great, since I assume we follow the news through SOTT and kinda browse the forums as necessary, but I have been re-reading some of Laura's old articles and some of the recommended book lists are large!

Anyway, I think your idea is great and spot-on, Good Luck!

It can be quite a struggle to not have anyone in person to talk to. There are however very good reasons why this is not encouraged - it is for everyones protection. Past experience has shown that at best it degenerates into feeding and illusion.
The exception is official workshops (i.e. EE).

Having said that do know that you are not alone. Keeping a journal can help a great deal as these feeling usually stem from earlier unmet needs. Posting in the swamp can also help. Finding ways to be supportive to others usually helps the most :-)

Thanks for clarifying, RedFox.
Thinking about it now and having read the thread, it makes sense.

Beginning of this year I had set the aim to post more - so I will do that. The Swamp I did not know so far, but will check it out.
