Unless one of these meteors hit us, no prob.

Another one:
A meteorite fell yesterday in Slovenia; the eyewitnesses heard a loud crash.

The meteorite fell somewhere south from Ljubljana.
Astronomers investigate surveillance cameras in order to discover the correct place of meteorite fall.

- I was seating in front of my house on Wednesday around the noon and had a cup of coffee with my neighbor. Suddenly, the large flash in the sky attracted our attention.
We looked at it and saw a huge burning ball, which shone more brightly than the Sun. Immediately after it we heard a terrible crash and bang, started the story Ljubica Ton ić (55) from Sveta Jana by Jastrebarsko. The neighbors and household members run out of houses, they thought it was an earthquake. While the grandchild Antonija Pintur (16) went to bring the camera, the flames already went out.

- All of it lasted hardly five minutes. After I switched on the camera, only a track remained in the sky, as if something has burnt up. We did not see any smoke, but there were tiny particles, the grandchild Antonija said and explained that the meteorite flown away towards Karlovac.

- Meteorite has flown over Zagreb and Croatia and entered Slovenia. It probably has fallen south from Ljubljana. We are still waiting the photographs of surveillance cameras in order to establish the correct place of the fall with colleagues from Slovenia - said Korado Korlević, the leader of the observatory on Višnjan.

(que sarcasm)
Must be part of the Lyrids still cuz they last till April 28. Er, wait...

*looks up a meteor shower known to happen at this time* ......

Aha! Got one. *Clears throat*

Duh, obviously it's part of the Perseids meteor shower, like everybody knows that, sheesh.
(end sarcasm)

Wow this is easy! Cuz at any given second there is always at least one meteor shower scheduled to happen, letting the authorities explain absolutely ANY meteor explosion/impact/sighting in the sky at any time. Perfect!

The real question is, what was the chance for two major meteorite appearing over relatively small area in less then 3 month?! Total land area of Croatia covers 56 500 sq km (approx. size of Georgia). First meteor exploded over Zagreb's downtown hotel back in late April creating a flash strong as 300 to 400 Mw, and last one managed to impact ground somewhere in nearby Zumberak mountain area or across Slovenian border, after flying over Zagreb's airspace, again! What ware odds for that! Like increased spacerock traffic, out of the blue!? It looks like "...something wicked this way comes" indeed!!!

Hi alexandra,

Is this the meteorite that you are talking about?

_http://dnevnik.hr/naslovnica/vijesti/hrvatska/20070726_21921_61602.php

The footage in the video is pretty amazing. Are all the video clips of the same meteorite from the 26th? Can you or anyone else translate the article part of the link?

Hi Mike,

yes, he is talking about that one, who fell on 25.07.

The footage is really amazing, in deed. However, these are all archive videos, except
one photo in the footage with dark blue background and a fireball on it.
Apparently, no surveillance cameras or radars could take any picture, because of the sunlight.

The article part:
Explosion was heard in Samobor and part of Zagreb, and trembling ground was heard even in Karlovac. However, there was no confirmation that this was really a meteorite.

Some media write how eyewitnesses saw something like the 'fireball', in the sky, which then 'fell on the ground'.

Korado Korlevic, leader of the observatory in Visnjan has confirmed for Vjesnik, that a meteorite or something similar entered the earth atmosphere,

'Something has fallen! It would be interestingly to find the correct place of the fall and find out what it really was.

According to eyewitnesses stories, who heard that 'sound effect', it is possibly that it fell somewhere near Zagreb, said Korlevic. Supposedly, Sibenik firemen, inhabitants of Samobor, Dugo Selo and Jastrebarsko, saw the fireball also.

This time it is Peru.

Villagers in southern Peru were struck by a mysterious illness after a meteorite made a fiery crash to Earth in their area, regional authorities said Monday.
Around midday Saturday, villagers were startled by an explosion and a fireball that many were convinced was an airplane crashing near their remote village, located in the high Andes department of Puno in the Desaguadero region, near the border with Bolivia.

Residents complained of headaches and vomiting brought on by a "strange odor," local health department official Jorge Lopez told Peruvian radio RPP.

Seven policemen who went to check on the reports also became ill and had to be given oxygen before being hospitalized, Lopez said.

Rescue teams and experts were dispatched to the scene, where the meteorite left a 100-foot-wide (30-meter-wide) and 20-foot-deep (six-meter-deep) crater, said local official Marco Limache.

"Boiling water started coming out of the crater and particles of rock and cinders were found nearby. Residents are very concerned," he said.

Villagers in southern Peru were struck by a mysterious illness after a meteorite made a fiery crash to Earth in their area, regional authorities said Monday.
Initially they said there was no disease outbreak after the meteorite. But now it is all over the local news reports, it seems that there are at least 500 families with nausea, vomiting, diarrea or headaches. Some of them were taken to the hospital.

Samples were taken from the air, water and ground and the results we'll be ready in one week.
