This past friday- June 22- myself and my daughter's friend had a strange experience. I had picked my daughter's friend up at school around 3:25 and was taking her with me to pick my daughter up from an audition and then out to supper to celebrate the end of the school year. We were traveling by MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) and in Singapore here, the trains are very regular and accurate in their timing from stop to stop to the point that any given station posts how long it will take to get to the others down the line so you know the duration of your trip ahead of time. I looked at my watch just before we stepped on the train (I did this to make sure we would not be late picking up my daughter) and realized that we would not make it to our stop for 4 o'clock like I intended and thought that instead of transferring trains like we had to, we would just take a taxi instead from the transfer station.
So the two of us are riding on the train and are sitting opposite of the line map that counts down the stops on the line with flashing lights. Flashing red dots on the map indicate the station you are about to stop at, Solid red is for the Station you are stopped at and solid green is for upcoming stations. I was blocked from view by two women standing in front of me but Anna had a clear view and was watching the stations count down to the "purple line" which was our transfer station as we chatted. Transfer stations are also marked on the map by color to make it easy for passengers so we knew we were getting off at the purple one. When I knew we were getting close to our station I asked Anna for an update since I could not easily see and she said that the stop before our was flashing red so that meant ours would be the second stop. At this point I actually got up to confirm so I could see too (she's only 11 after all) and verified that indeed the stop before ours was flashing red so we would be getting off in 2 stops. We stopped once, then the train went into a tunnel far what seemed like two seconds and then we heard the bell again for our stop and both stood up to exit. Before we moved moved though we heard the announcement for "Commonwealth Station "and suddenly realized that somehow we had gone back 4 stops! we were both feeling a little dazed and confused since we were also back out in daylight and the last thing we remembered was going into a tunnel. The two of us looked at each other not understanding what happened, sat back down and recounted the events together trying to figure out what happened. We both remember going into the tunnel for only about 2 seconds before all of a sudden being back in the daylight at a stop we had already been at. At this point I looked at my watch and was surprised to find that I had been on the train for 30 minutes! My watch showed that it was 4:15 already! Travelling to Commonwealth station from where we began should take about 15 minutes max so it should have been around 4 o'clock. And what was extra confusing was going back into the tunnel a second time when we had already remembered doing it briefly once already. Everyone around us appeared normal and didn't seem to notice anything unusual. Both of us remember feeling a bit dazed when we stood up for our stop that first time as if we had just woken up. Anna reported to me after that she suddenly felt very tired once we were finished riding the train. I began to wonder what happened but didn't say anything so I wouldn't freak her out but the first thing she did when she saw my daughter was recount the whole thing. It was obviously very confusing to both of us.
Not sure if this is related or not but I had just finished the whole EE meditation about an hour before I picked up my daughter's friend. It was a very lucid and normal session for me with absolutely no zoning out or falling asleep (I usually have a quick nap before EE to prevent this) or weirdness of any kind including a very focused and intentional unaccompanied prayer session at the end.
