Movie Suggestions Please!

I thought "The Road" was one of the most depressing movies ever. If you liked that one, then you may also enjoy "Buried" (2009) - which was for me a close second in terms of depressing movies.

If it's the movie that I think it is with the guy waking in up in a coffin, with a lighter & a mobile phone, then all I can say is it would probably be better to give it a miss. Not really depressing IMO, but rather horrible. If you're claustrophobic don't watch it. In fact, even if you're not claustrophobic, you'll still feel boxed in somewhat, days after.

Free Men.

Here is a trailer and a description:

The (Arabic) music is also wonderful. Yet, the film is bleak, especially if you know what happened in Algeria afterwards.

Thanks Mariama. That one looks like a good one to share - especially in light of current events.

Second that - "The Road" was certainly very depressing - but i thought it was also a very accurate portrayal of what a post-apocalyptic scenario would be.

Another similar dystopian movie to "The Road" - is French production "Time of the Wolf" (2003)

'Buried' wouldn't be highly recommended IMO, in terms of a deep underlying message, or even entertainment for that matter. But it does have a great impact on leaving you rather depressed and empty - if thats what your looking for

The Road on the other hand has a somewhat similar effect, but contains alot more emotion and is a great apocalyptic film that isnt to glamorized or 'hollywood' so to speak. Basically a film on how far a man would go to continue on his path and save his son.

Naked by Mike Leigh is a very engrossing and well made film that made me "just sit there for a while" after I watched it.

I have been sat here thinking about Upstream Color since I saw it and that was months ago.
