Music Collaboration

Also, off topic, is it just me, or are there a lot of musicians on this forum? I've seen so many mentions of members who play an instrument or sing.

This was my speculation as well. Maybe someday we'll all get together and play.

Moderators note: This thread developed a life of it's own amidst another conversation, so it has been split from the previous thread in 'What's On Your Mind' and the relevant posts moved here.

Daniel & abstract: Can you picture in your mind all of the musicians here forming 'The Cass-band'?

I'm sure that our future selves are jamming on some tunes as we speak.

Say, nomad...you got any recording gear by chance????
I was thinking that if you could record some bass we can add it in there. ;)

sure, I've got a fairly basic setup, but I could give it a shot when I get a moment. will keep you posted.

well.... this didn't turn out how I expected - Instead of the bass, I got the urge to head for the keyboard and add some strings and it all came out. It's just improvised on the spot, so I hope you don't mind how I've mangled the original!

YouTube wouldn't let me register, so I uploaded it here:

Mangled is certainly not the word to describe how much depth and beauty you've added to my piece.
Thank you for doing that. It's really fabulous...whenever the strings play those sustained notes, it makes
my leads change modes, depending on the notes, a little keyboard adds quite a lot of texture and dimension.

It's really more like OUR piece of music now, and no one says i have to be in the same room with you to write music.
Does anyone else wanna throw somethin' into the mix? Piano? Vocals? sound effects?

so glad you like it. Thank you for your kind words.

It's unlike anything else I've played, much more freeform. What came out on the strings actually played 'against' what the guitar was doing, in some cases apparently altering the key (hence the mangling!), or having other interesting effects. It seemed to work, so I went with it and it just clicked.

looking forward to further collaborations sometime, if you're up for it. Improvising against someone else's improvisations is ... different

Without going off topic I just wanted to say that was beautiful. I've noticed that combining creativity on the forum at the moment has produced/is producing some truly remarkable pieces of art.
I wondered about having the POTS meditation music on iTunes with proffits going to FOTCM.....would it be presumptuous to suggest that we could do the same with this?
As to adding anything to this.....I may give it a go ;) but I only really use sequencers. What I do think would fit the best however would be possibly a bit of piano, but definitely a saxophone of some sort. But that's just my opinion.

Sorry to hijack the thread. :-[

It sounds great! I'm listening to it right now for the 3rd time. I actually added in some acoustic guitar, some background solo-ing, very soft, sometimes holding certain notes, creating an ambient background effect. Unfortunately I don't have recording equipment. But it was definitely fun to play to.

I'm gonna visit the music store and check out some discount recording equipment, I'd love to add in or bring some stuff to the table and have other's add in, create a literal 'Cass Band'. We may not be there in person, but we sure are in Spirit! If you have any recommendations on equipment that would be awesome.

shop around, there's lots of choices, i personally would go for something simple at first.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Let's move our music discussion to a different thread! Call it like, cass band thread or something, idk.
shoot nomad, you're a moderator...can you move some o' this stuff around or should we just start a new thread?

abstract, just wanted to say that when I first heard your piece, I thought it was beautiful. Then, when Nomad "mangled" it, it is twice as beautiful.

Great stuff, guys!  :flowers:

I can't wait to hear more.
