Musical Dedication to the Forum

The Living Force
For those people who may going through emotional difficulties at this point in time, I would like to dedicate the following:

Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush - Don't Give Up

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiCRZLr9oRw

It lasts a little over 6 minutes.

I was watching it a little while ago for the first time and really enjoying the beauty of the whole concept and everything; then, when it got half way through, I choked up and burst into tears unexpectedly. Something about it touched me very deeply, and I wanted to share it with everyone.

December 21st: A contributor to Club Gaffa has posted this newsbit: "In a recent interview, Elton John mentions the profound effect that the Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush duet 'Don't Give Up' has had on his life. The interview is dated 28 September 2001, and has been published on an Italian website: Elton says: "When I took drugs, in the worst period, that is when I was perfectly aware of where I was slipping, a song helped me resist: 'Don't Give Up', by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush. I was listening to it and I was continuing to repeat aloud: "I will not let go, I will not throw in the sponge". The problem was that I did not know how to abandon the hole into which I was hurled. Then I understood; I would have to ask for help: to say "I need help" ... Every time that I allowed the situation to beat down, every time that I thought that this life was not worth anything, I put on 'Don't Give Up' and I convinced myself yes, it is worth the pain. Still now I cry, when I feel it."[/quote]

Just to bring this dedication back up - Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel's duet of our inner emotional landscapes, which was well thought of Buddy; remembered, too, this heartfelt rendition. Would like to also offer for the oppressed in the four corners of our world, from the fall out of wall street to Fukushima Daiichi (no pun intended). From the scribes of our new draconian laws - our very outer landscapes of continued war, control and recklessness enacted by greed and psychosis, by human entropy - non beings against human beings everyday - we can never forget, we cannot give that last "inch away" - here is Gabriel's dedication to 'Biko' sung at Amnesty International concert (1986) in remembrance of Stephan Biko of South Africa.

Following the trend here with Peter Gabriel songs portraying our struggle figured that 'Digging in the dirt' is also relevant.

[Chorus]
I'm digging in the dirt
Stay with me I need support
I'm digging in the dirt
To find the places I got hurt
To open up the places I got hurt

Thoughtful use of this thread, y'all.

[Aside]
Interestingly, I was watching Simple Minds' "Don't you Forget about Me" as I noticed the thread bump. I was inspired with the thought that for every ponerized attempt to pull humanity apart, someone tries to put us back together at heart.

Here's to all mankind's fallen heroes, and to the hope that one day, the unnatural death of a single human being will cause the whole world to arise against the pathology! Real power is with the people!

One of my favorite songs of all time is "Over the Rainbow" and there are several jazzy renditions I really love. And since things will probably get much worse on the BBM before they get better, that song always reminds me that another outcome is always possible, and probably exists somewhere right now, and it always leaves me with that feeling of "happy expectation of adventure". Check out the one by Melody Gardot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBMIcRuwagU, and by the late great IZ

I have always loved Peter Gabriel's work-the first concert I ever went to was Genesis "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway"-the last tour he did with them. Biko is a great song. Thanks Voyageur

Genesis, through Gabriel, were very popular in the 70's in Quebec. After leaving, went to a Genesis concert when Gabriel was replaced by Collins, the date was May 18, 1980 in Calgary, Alberta and when we came out the sky was Fire Red looking west to the mountains from Mount St. Helens mass eruption that very day - surreal. They played of course 'Dance on a Volcano' - Let the dance begin.
