Mostly I find being creative very cathartic. It allows me to express and articulate more than just words. Sometimes I even find myself being surprised at what comes out. Music for me, is another level of expression, the combination and layers of tones gets closer to expressing real emotion. (it's so multifaceted just like music) We can never know what goes on inside another persons head or heart, but with music, IMO, when can get closer. I also find I can express my shadow side, in a more, well, safe way? I can vent and expel, without directing it at anyone in particular. There's also the vulnerability that comes with laying your emotions out for everyone to see and hopefully feel.
As for the audience, well, art being as subjective as it is, that's a tough one, people are going to read what ever they want from it. I can't control that, nor do I want. If they resonate with it and it helps someone feel something then great! I guess the other side of that, is you can put all sorts of subject matter into songs, that will hopefully make them think, or maybe look up a line or a word or a song title. It was this very thing that lead me to the forum! So I am hopeful that it may do the same for someone else.
So, to answer your question, my motivation in writing and releasing music is, firstly to help myself with being more expressive, with letting go of bottled up emotions, (not that all my songs or along these lines) as well as putting something positive, and, from my perspective true, into the world. By helping myself, hopefully it helps the audience too, to look at themselves and question these things I am saying.
I hope that all makes sense? it's a complex question hahaha
