my job is a big loosh factory

I honestly do not understand how our economy has not already crumbled. I work in a national pizza chain restaurant part time. What happened today is a typical event. We (2 servers, one cook and a manager) prepared, cooked served over one thousand dollars of food in 3 hours while managing to keep the place relatively clean and without any complaints. Our district manager arrived at the end of the lunch shift and instead of saying something positive, starts nagging, nitpicking and complaining. This has been the way the last three companies I have worked for operate. One store where I worked has been steadily losing money for years. Why would they stay open? Yea, I know about tax shelters and all that but really, is it probable that some companies are in business solely for the reason to create "loosh"? I can barely stand it any more. :scared: I am almost ready to just start being a bum and eating out of garbage cans. The best server we had just got fired because he neglected to disclose on his application, a driving violation that happened 10 years ago (they waited three years to do a background check) and the server who has temper tantrums and curses at customers, calls in sick twice a week, steals our tips and comes to work stoned still works there.

Wow! I have worked twice for my local government. And sometimes the institution was not making any projects at all!. Or at least not all the departments. It was depressing when I found myself to be sitting there just wasting my time. During those times I found the cassiopaea site. :P

Well, all's well that ends well. Maybe I will find something meaningful at this job.

opossum,

I've actually had similar thoughts to what you describe. It's a feeling of being in the Matrix in a very direct way, where I wonder if the whole reason for the existence of the company I work for is just to keep people busy and distracted with meaningless tasks - to further cement their minds into a prison.

But actually, it's not just corporations and companies that do this, just about everything in our world is designed that way to reinforce our internal prisons of subjectivity and inner-considering. You could be a bum eating out of a garbage can and still experience the same despair, hopelessness and unfairness about the world as you do at your job albeit in less comfortable surroundings.

This is exactly happening every where. from biggest corporations to the 2 member individual families. The problem is we think we are free to choose and we think it is happening to us alone and we don't see bigger picture of how these type of behavior is institutionalized and promoted by media and social institutions consciously or unconsciously. The toxic food we eat ( flourine, inflammation food ), toxic emotions we accumulate , poisonous thoughts that are induced into our subconscious makes it almost impossible to break the illusion.

Breathe.

Hi opossum Before i was given an ultimatum and (decided to leave) a job of 23 years that this was a very common situation in my place of employment. I started to release 3 years out to leaving that the train ride was over. As it was becoming apparent it was going to become a train wreck. So i took the money and had to run.

As i have talked to others whom are still employed with the former job that i had, the very people of authority are falling apart. They had all seemed to lack the values of understanding and supporting those under there supervision. These element's whom were of authority spent little time in the trench's and rose to top very quickly.

They were the ones whom did little of the hard labor but had all the answers. In there career they thought more of the fanfare as to the dedication, to what was and the importunates to the commitment's to a job and doing it well or going the extra mile in a time of need, in severing the general public.

I commend your work ethic's to ideals to the job and yourself more importantly. It had always occurred to me that the slim gets all the credit while the backbone of an operation does all the work and makes the company the success of what it can or could be.

Hang in there and don't give up hope or be be influenced by this element. Continue be all you can be and keep busy and let those whom lack your quality, influence or bring down your standards, morels, to what is to hold a job down. I know that i didn't and i earned what i made the old fashion way, hard work. Never afraid to sweat or dig a ditch. And my logo was, For duty and humanity till death due i part, and still stands today.

Hi Opposum. I couldn't disagree more with c.a. Imo, if I were in your shoes, I would be looking to exit this job asap, unless jobs are at a premium. And if that's the case, you might consider a geographic change. Aside from a paycheque and a learning experience, working in your present environment has nothing good to offer you. Upper management is probably incompetent and seem to be protecting their turf, which is why they get rid of competent staff. Believe me, I am talking from experience.
Previous to this job, I worked for a company where it was all about the owners. No one else counted, particularly those who did the actual work. The store manager would hire friends and relatives who, with the exception of one or two, did literally little or nothing, got all the cushy shifts, and weekends off. If there was any real work to be done on a specific day, they would book off sick. The list is endless.
I now work for a company where you are considered a valued asset, to be treated with respect and dignity, and rewarded for your effort.
It's not perfect-what is in an STS world-but it's a far cry from my previous job.
So I would encourage you to consider all your alternatives.
And good luck.

Hi Tristan,

A definition of loosh from Urban dictionary. :)

1. New Age term applied to energy produced by human beings that other entities use to feed from. 2. It is also used to refer to the energy that is produced by suffering that entities feed.

I have considered all replies beneficial, food for thought. I had an absolutely horrible day at work today and I am going to take the advise to change geographical location as, yes, jobs are at a premium here. I have had this advise from virtually every intelligent person I have spoken with about living here. I just honestly don't know how I can manage without some kind of help. I have no family or friends to stay with in another city and my funds are limited. I spent some time in Seattle a few years ago and often daydream about living there. I know good wait staff is always in high demand there. Only trouble is, I live 2000 miles away and rent is very high there. I own some land and a small cabin here but it is doubtful I can sell it at this time because the real estate market is very bad in this dying town.

I had a strange dream last night. I was walking through what I thought was my pizza restaurant carrying a plate of food. I felt very calm and relaxed and wondered to myself what had changed and then looked down at the plate and saw two steaks on it (we don't serve steaks where I work).

Hmmm, after reading this thread, http://www.cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?topic=17829.0 ,
I see another possible reason my workplace is a hotbead of psychopaths.
Pizza= high gluten+dairy :/

The one thing about your job is the tremendous mobility that it brings. Like doctors and nurses, one can pick and go any where in these professions. As there's always a need for the trade thought the world. Like yours, though quite different is a fact that people need to eat, to live in this environment. Also not having any anchors such family issues (and I don't mean that in a bad way) gives you more motivation to realise your dream of a change.

The other idea of picking up stake's and possibly moving to a new location. For a different job, and different geographical living area. A possibly higher wage, due to the volume of clientele that you sighted. A better working environment, with people that think, perhaps as you do, of a team effort to working together to finish a day.

If you own your property this can be a big advantage to this mobility. As you can rent it, or lease it. This will bring some needed cash up front for the lease, to maybe getting settled, in Seattle. Or the another option that leaves you a safety net, is to let a trusted and sane friend live there until you figure out if Seattle will be to your advantage. That way you will have some where to come back to, without breaking any lease, or rental agreement's. Call it a safety chute.

But all this may be a little seem daunting as given the current job issue in the states is in dire straits. So one might consider doing a through investigation into the backgrounds of potential lease's or renter's for peace of mind being 2000 mile from the property. I have always felt change is good and can bring tremendous opportunity's. Ironically started by your thoughts that something else is needed to resolve different dilemmas of the current job issue. That sometimes interferer's with the growth that one is looking as to being stagnant in life. What ever you decide networking and research will be your ace in the hole.

fwiw have you started the E-E program (see also the E-E website)?? That's not to say you shouldn't try and get yourself out of a toxic emotional environment if its damaging your health, but given you may have not choice but to stay due to current circumstances, learning the E-E techniques as a tool for stress management and emotional detox would help you survive in that environment. Diet is also an important consideration in coping with such environments.
If you are stuck there, try to look at as a great opportunity in learning to survive in such an environment. I think many of us may find ourselves having to do so in the near future.

As to the dream....perhaps a few possibilities come to mind...such as changing your diet (if your blood type O then a nice organic steak would help you no end), or more likely your actually in a situation where you can get more out of it than you bargained for. You got steak (more expensive) instead of pizza. You've been handed an opportunity perhaps?

c.a. and Redfox, you have both given points to consider. I will think on these things carefully.

Actually, I served someone else steak instead of pizza. STO? This will take careful consideration. I am trying the EE program again, slowly. I had some issues before that prevented me from it at first but am confident I can do it now if I am patient with myself.
