This is just to let you all know that I have created an `official website' at

http://arkadiusz-jadczyk.org

It is supposed to have the most up-to-date and clean information about my scientific research.

Comments about its `look' and also suggestions are welcomed.

A nit:

Both "Publications" and "Curriculum Vitae" take you to html files, but below each are two links, one to the same html file and another to a pdf file. That there are two html links is not obvious nor is the fact that the pdf link takes you to the html information, only in a downloadable pdf format.

More serious:

This is fine as a list of publications, but it does not provide much background about you as a professional nor about the "basic thrust" behind your research. Who else (besides your publication collaborators) is working on similar areas? Where can the interested web surfer go for additional information and background? What about a list of references (i.e. background stuff to read and master in order to better comprehend what you wrote)?

Perhaps this site is trying to become different and more "academically acceptable" when compared to the quantum future web site, but there has to be some middle ground between nothing and all of the metaphysical shadings of quantum future. I can easily imagine that some of the stuff associated with QFG and SOTT is not the ideal ice-breaker during breaks at professional conferences... :)

I'm also not sure what your goal was with this domain name. What were you trying to accomplish? It would help to provide feedback if I (we) knew what your intent and goal was, so we can see how close you came (in the collective opinion).

Cheers.

Hi Ark, the cyan color looks really bright on my monitor. Sort of hurts my eyes to look at, especially on the white background.

Yeah, Laura said the same. Is it better now? What would you suggest? I am really terrible with colors and analphabet as far as css styles are concerned :|

I would replace white background with some "notebook" style background, like this for example:
http://holidaygallery(dot)net/backgrounds/notebook_background.htm
or this:
http://snogirl(dot)snoville.com/White-Notepad.html

add color and it's easier to read. Just my opinion.

Looks OK to me now. Colors match pretty good, IMO.

Indeed, but for some mysterious reason I could no go further than 2009. There are some disturbances beyond 2009 .... :)

I liked very much a 'school notebook' style of your site. You wanted to say that everything here, including 'state-of-the-art' science (can't come up with better term) is a schooling and learning lessons?
I have a question: in curriculum you wrote that till 2001 you worked for Costellation corp.
http://www.contech.com/ said:
Constellation Technology Corporation is focused on providing advanced, state-of-the-art nuclear, chemical and biological solutions for our customers. Recent emphasis is on sensors and instrumentation for the detection, control, and monitoring of weapons of mass destruction. Constellation performs extensive government research and development for methods of detecting and identifying nuclear, biological, and chemical hazards. Through this research, Constellation has developed an extensive line of products applicable to both the government and industrial markets. Constellation operates a complete mercuric iodide material processing, growth, cutting, and detector fabrication facility. In addition to our manufacturing facility, we maintain laboratories for high pressure noble gas detector development, biological sensor development, and chemical sensor development.
Is that the same corporation that proposed to you some secret work for the US government?
Laura wrote in one of her articles (about history of occupation of Poland) that you refused to join US military research project. Was it connected to Costellation Corp? That name is quite strange.

Yes, the same. You can read the two papers that I co-produced while working there:

http://arkadiusz-jadczyk.org/downloads.htm

There was nothing secret about my work there, thus a proprietary research, as the company was competing with other companies (like SANDIA) to construct and sell its detectors. I was just developing methods of detecting and mathematical modeling of radiation, some database work etc. I resigned when it became more clear where the world is going. That was certainly not my direction.

In the first of these papers (Fractional Counts – The Simulation Of Low Probability Events) you can find for instance "FIGURE 1. Sample detector similar to that used by the NEAR-X and Gamma Ray group at NASA Goddard". This figure and the computer program behind it, is, for instance, my work and I developed a part of the software that was supposed to be used in a cosmic probe sent to investigate radiation from the asteroid Eros - see "Data from Eros - Gamma-Ray Readings" here:

http://near.jhuapl.edu/

This kind of mathematical and computer analysis is also being used in processing the radiation from supernovae.

My two collaborators were George Lasche - see for instance:

http://www.physics.nist.gov/Divisions/Div846/Gp4/ANSIN4242/2005/course.html

(where you can read his course on data interchange format to be used for DHS Radiation Measurement Instruments.)

and Bob Coldwell:

http://www.phys.ufl.edu/~coldwell/

As for the name, it is indeed strange. I still wonder whether there was some special reason for a technology corporation to choose such a name.

I wonder why you decided to take a different approach with your new site (good luck, by the way).
Because I really love the "old" one. It feels somehow more fun and personal ;) Maybe I just a little sentimental,
or maybe I just miss the "Physics and the Mysterious" section and a "floating castle" picture. What about adding your funny caricature?
Several practical advices: It's looks great now, but maybe you can bold all the topics on the "list of publications list". Just easier to read. And maybe change the grey color to something stronger, like navy blue, but this is actually not neccesary - looks fine.

Hi Ark,

I love your "Quantum Quirks" on SOTT main page. I haven't seen any for awhile now. Could you consider including it on your official website? Otherwise your new website looks great.

It is like with dresses. I feel best when I wear sandals and my ``holy" sweater (with a hole). But when I go to some ``official" ceremony, I put on black shoes, a jacket and a tie. Why? Because instead of stressing on "that's me, you should respect my tastes", I am taking another approach: "I respect the tradition and other people, as long as this tradition and their tastes are not particularly evil". Such an approach allows for a communication with "more traditional" people, and by communicating with them, sometimes, I can learn more. The same with sites. Different sites for communicating with different categories of people. This "official site" is much like an "official jacket and tie" - to be used for special ("official") occasions.

Now a quirk:

Caller to Microsoft support center:
ms_support.jpg

- I have a problem: I installed Windows a year ago, and I do not have any problems whatsoever for all this time. What should I do?
- You must have a pirated version. Delete it from your PC immediately!

Good one Ark and thanks. Hope you'll have a daily "quirk" and perhaps and archive link for your older ones on your new web site. A laugh a day, helps keep the "blues" away. OSIT
