My Sassy Girl (2001)

The Living Force
Had the urge to watch an asian romcom today in an attempt to escape the sameness of Hollywood. The movie I ended up watching was a south korean romcom called My sassy girl. Hollywood made (butchered) their own version in 2008.

Based on a series of true stories posted by Ho-sik Kim on the Internet describing his relationship with his girlfriend. These were later transformed into a best-selling book and the movie follows the book closely. It describes the meeting of Kyun-woo (Cha) and an unnamed girl. Kyun-woo is shamed into assisting the girl because the other passengers mistakenly think she is his girlfriend. Once he helps her, Kyun-woo develops a deep sense of responsibility for her which enables him to tolerate (somehow) the girl's abuses.

The movie is multi-layered. One of those when the credits roll, you remain sitted for 5 minutes to process what you just saw. It's beautiful, funny, sad, annoying, sometimes violent, sometimes abusive, touching, simply put, a roller-coaster ride. The last scene is so beautiful, is so touching, is so heartbreaking, it's just beyond words.

I agree with her, he is a 'dummy', as one is supposed to duck or block and he does neither, so obviously he needs her for better training in life. ;)

That said, there's been quite a number of these type of films over the years... probably a Korean romcom genre along the tsundere trope, if you like it, there's a number of them you can watch.
