"Millions of fish were found dead by fishermen between May 3 and May 5, 2016. Officials are unable to find the source of the mass killing but think it is linked to the lack of dissolved oxygen in the water. Could the drop in oxygen content in the north-east of lake Toba be the result of volcanic activity of some kind?"

From Wikipedia:
"Lake Toba (Indonesian: Danau Toba) is a large natural lake occupying the caldera of a supervolcano. The lake is about 100 kilometres long, 30 kilometres wide, and up to 505 metres (1,666 ft) deep. Located in the middle of the northern part of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, with a surface elevation of about 900 metres (2,953 ft), the lake stretches from 2.88°N 98.52°E to 2.35°N 99.1°E. It is the largest lake in Indonesia and also the largest volcanic lake in the world.[1]"

It is not uncommon for volcanic lakes to supersaturate with carbon dioxide gas dissolved in the waters.
An earthquake, which is akin to shaking a champagne bottle, can cause the CO2 to fizz out of solution, and this in turn can cause die-off of life forms below and above the waters, and for miles downwind / downstream.

The fact that Toba is a supervolcano, just like Yellowstone, may be significant, let's hope it doesn't go off, it will create havoc for thousands of miles around it.

Something is definitely weird going on with the fish, link:

35 tons of dead fish suddenly wash up in a lake in China

Pollution, salinity change,....?

The interesting thing here is that this phenomenon does not only occur in Lake Toba in Sumatra and in that Chinese lake.
Mass die offs of fish and other water creatures has become a common occurrence all over the world in the last couple of years.

If you follow SOTT regularly, you see a definite pattern emerging there:

What is happening here is probably directly related to what Pierre Lescaudron and Laura wrote in Earth Changes and the Human Cosmic Connection.

Yes, of course, you're right, I was shocked by number of dead fish in a short period
