When I read this on Sott:

I was immediately reminded of a Japanese Manga series that I read/follow called "Berserk" by author and artist Kentaro Miura. I actually don't fancy Japanese manga's, and have never read them prior to Berserk - however this one was different; it contains quite a number of themes discussed on the forum (dimensions, entities, dark forces, shape shifting etc.) from a fictional angle, and when I stumbled upon it one day at a friend's house, I just could not stop reading it as the storyline as well is very mature, intelligent, deep and intriguing.

In this manga series, the stone actually "appears" and plays an important role, as it is called a "behelit" - and there is a unique one called the "Egg of the King" that enables a user to become a member of the "God Hand" during a once every 216 year eclipse event. The God Hand are 5 beings that reside in another dimension, and are the overlords of entropy - you can say Dark STS beings.
Some info about the Egg of the King and behelits here:

I always thought that the behelits in Berserk, were just a work of pure fiction by Kentaro Miura - seems like they have been based on the mysterious New Hampshire stone (as this is the first time I have come across this information); he even drew the facial features on the behelit similar to the stones, but it the manga it looks smaller than the original dimension of 4 inches...
Well, just some thoughts on an interesting synchronicity...fwiw...

Purpose and Usage
Behelits are the keys to open the gate between the human world and the bottom of the Abyss, where the God Hand reside. They belong to their destined owners and cannot be permanently lost or discarded until they have been used. When the destined person's desire to escape his current situation is great enough, the behelit will find its way to him or her, and call forth the God Hand to grant the wish with a fitting sacrifice. When this happens, the facial features of the behelit rearrange to form a face, crying blood and screaming. This is the primary means through which humans are transformed into Apostles.
Other Behelits
Griffith's Crimson Behelit, which he obtained from a fortune teller as a youth, was a rare and unique item as Zodd called it the 'Egg of the King'. It appears once every 216 years when the time of the Eclipse draws near, and rather than becoming an Apostle, the bearer of the Crimson Behelit is destined to become the next member of the God Hand. It is not known whether there were five different Crimson Behelits or whether the same came to each of the God Hand in turn.
