The US may have cut all export of silver ore from south America to be processed in China and redirected it to the US. When you know how silver is important to the Chinese car, solar panel and other commodities the US just hit China, if true, a great blow. This move by the US give them a good bargaining chip again China is rare earth mineral control.

The problem is that the US can't processes all this ore yet lacking smithing capacities but that is soon to change as a Korean firm is presently on it way of building a smithing plan in the states.
The problem is, as you write, that the US can process all this ore. The problem is however so much bigger when it comes to rare earth metals and I only became aware of the enormity when reading this article, which also shows how China has been very strategic about it and planning mindset which works in decades instead of election cycles.
