New take on an old hymn: 'How Great Thou Art'

I first heard this hymn in a denomination, I think they were Baptist Christians.
I hope that the trio involved in creating music for the forum will continue listening to and adapting religious music if they feel it is necessary to do so.

This kind of music is what makes some religious denominations tolerable and enjoyable.

Feeling/understanding hymns like this is one of the aspects that many nations in the world need to achieve or increase the necessary spirituality, especially for those politicians who are leading their countries as if they were ships adrift.

Thank you so much.

I love this. I put in an order to the Universe last week for some inspiration of a new song to learn to sing to my little cherub before bed, and wow you’ve delivered.

Thank you. I hope she likes it as much as I do. 💖

Okay, here's a simple second voice to the hymn. Observe that in measure 11, first, note, the second voice goes temporarily above voice 1 (melody). This is due to the fact that the melody is set in G major, which makes the second voice quite low in pitch. The lowest note for the second voice is now G below middle C (for a female voice), I hope that's not too low. For a male voice that shouldn't be a problem (sung an octave lower). I've attached a simple recording of the second voice as a mp3.

I'm planning to do a version with four voices, but for that the song needs to be set in Bb major, otherwise the 'spread' of voices will become too thin and low.

Happy practising!

The hymn "how great thou art" used to be sung regularly at mass when I was young(er) and it always stuck with me. It's a great tune!
By the way, the hymn as played and sung by the Cosmic Mind duo also serves as a very appropriate "punch line" at the end of Section (7) of Chapter VIII of Gnosis book 2 while introducing and discussing the works of the three cosmic octaves, rightly replacing the words there of St John from Revelation xv:3.
Thanks again. :flowers:

Both versions are beautiful, but I love Aragorn's version the most. It automatically transported me back to the Wizard of Oz movie, that distinctive sound of the music from that era. Charming, beautiful, thank you very much!

I really miss Sott's versions like "You Lied", "Still believe" and the same of "Signs of the Times" with "the world is buuuuuuuuuurning now, somehow everything is... connected!" I love them!

Pierre also had a video with a song, I can't find it.

A version of Foolenzky and Bloodynyahu, let's see how the quorum's discography reacts, If they admire what is done here, perhaps some of them will sing them during their meetings. 👌🤣
