Can you please clarify? Do you mean home loan (i.e. mortgage) or something else?

Also do you remember what channel and news show it was and if they have a website that might have the same report on it?

Hey Ellipse, have you read the most recent Signs Economic Commentary? There's an article used which goes into how the commercial paper market on Wall Street came to a stop and gave glimpse to the true state of the US economy. Commercial paper is used in big business as a day to day loan. This might be to what 'no loans in New York' is referring.

You can read the full commentary here:

Of course I have read the Signs Economic :-)

The video is here : http://www.canalplus.fr/c-infos-documentaires/pid1830-c-zapping.html? Choose 01/10/08 for the date and go to 0:56

She says "Now in New York and his vicinity, you can't no more have a loan to buy a flat, country house or even a car, it's finish, no loan. This has been said yesterday evening at the local TV". She continue "An anecdote, there's a lot of women who bring back the clothes they bought this last three weeks, who ask for refunding".

In the next excerpt the man say "Each American baby who born today already owe 56.000$ to his banker".
