April will be the one year anniversary of Blacky at home with us. As some of you remember I adopted Blacky after the death of my Laika. He is, like her, a Belgian Shepherd. He is a dog that suffered of maltreatment during many years and was rescue by a team of volunteers.

After some adjustments and patience from me and from him, Blacky is now more happy and just lately he started to smile. He is still insecure and still have some fears, like to be photographed. But he is docile and very gentle. His manners are elegant, like is walking. He walks like a true model. His way of give love, for now, is asking for caresses. He loves my husband very much and adores me. He follows me everywhere. He does not do anymore pipi at home, has no more fear of nights, tremble no more, adores also my other dog, Colette. When someone comes at home he is not anymore afraid. And he loves to go for a ride in my car. So from a very traumatized dog I have now a happy dog, that feels part of a team. Can he be more assertive? I really don't know. One year maybe is not enough time, we will see. He is 9 years old.

I do some exercises with him, he knows the command sit, give the paw and down. He is very good specially before the meal. I have to give this orders before the meal because he is very nervous in front of meals, yet. Surely because he suffered malnutrition all his life. When I order him to sit is to calm him. And it works.

So I don't regret this adoption and I know I did a good action taking this dog, a very unhappy one that needed a good family. We are not perfect but dogs don't judge us at all. ;D

This is fantastic news, Loreta. Blacky sounds gorgeous - Blacky Beauty. You are doing a brilliant job. Any chance of a picture? :)

What a joyous post to read Loreta! I hope Blacky can get over his fear of having a photo taken as I would love to see him too.

Dogs really are mans (and womans) bestfriend.

You've done well, loreta! Blackie is very lucky to have had you adopt him and I'm fairly sure he knows it. It must feel good to him to be able to trust his human companions and to be able to live his life more fully.

So nice of you to give us an update on Blacky, Loreta. The year has gone so fast and you have accomplished so much with him, well done :flowers:

So cool, thanks for the update, loreta! Very happy for you and Blacky. And yeah, whenever he will be ready for some photoshoot, don't forget that people want pictures. :D

Thank you. :-[ I am trying everyday to take a picture of him, but as soon as he sees my camera or even my phone he gives me his back. He refuses categorically to be photographed. It is very strange. I am sure in his past someone tortured him with a camera. So I try, I try... but for now I have just pictures of him that are not showing how cute he is. As soon I am able to have one I will posted it.

I try tricks : to hide my camera, try to show him that I am not taking pictures, try many things but to no avail. Very strange, yes indeed!

Thanks for the update Loreta! The day you decided to bring Blacky home you definitely moved him to a new reality. Who knows If Blacky will come back in a human body next time thanks to your efforts.. :D

Is it a a year already that you have blacky? I remember being very moved by your description of blacky, his situation, and your response to it.

I had no doubt that blacky would thrive under your care. I'm very happy for all of you.

Hi loreta. It seems you are both blessed to have found each other! We can learn so much from our four legged friends. It sounds like Blacky has grown to trust you this past year and feels comfortable in his loving home. I`m wondering if you are using the flash when taking his picture and maybe that causes him to be camera shy? :scared:
Best wishes to you and Blacky! :)

Hi Nancy, no, I am not using the flash. He just see me to take the phone or the camera and he gives me his back or simply leaves the room where I am. I have just pictures of him that do not really shows how really he is. Like this one.

Hi Water, would you be gentle and tell us about the video? It is good when putting a link to a video or an article to give some information about it. It is just a little bit of external consideration. Thanks! :)
