Nightcrawler

Great movie for the readers of Cleckley, Stout, Babiak and Robert D. Hare. Especially how the psycho protagonist deals with Nina in the restaurant and back at work. Its like the director and Jake read the books and wanted to display the gist of knowledge about psychopaths.

This morning however I thought of those lots of people, who didn't read the literature and watch this movie, will probably think how cool to be a psycho and lets do business his way! The magnetic attraction, identification, pull-in power of these deviants.

Captivating movie. Jake played that role well.

Spoiler Alert

What I found astonishing in the whole thing is how 'stupid' his 'employee' was. He should never have died if he had brains. He should have known something was seriously off with Jake's character. He spent a lot time with him after all. His sense of danger should have been activated after awhile. Call it his survival instinct. I find it hard to believe that he couldn't sense the danger despite all that he had seen about him. That is a huge blind spot that cost him his life.

But he kept going based on the promises that Jake was making. Makes me think of all of us plebs slaving away at organisations... The endless stream of promises that keep us pushing harder on the behest of our masters...

Indeed, a very good film about the psychopath and the media excesses.

His employee underestimated the psychopathic side of Jake's character. A lack of knowledge that has blinded him.

As Jake's character said at the end of the film: "I'd like to think if you're seeing me you're having the worst day of your life."
It is better to flee a psychopath when there is still time.

I hadn't read anything about this movie before watching it, didn't know about the SOTT article or anything else.

It didn't take long to notice there was something very off about the lead character. My comment to my son was that he behaved like some kind of alien, like Jeff Bridges in Starman who had just arrived on the planet and had no learned ability to communicate with people. He knew the words, had learned the subject matter, but applied it all mechanically without any people skills. He was creeping me out even before his lack of empathy and conscience became evident.

VERY creepy movie, and Gyllenhaal played the role perfectly. Worth watching, but I won't be watching it again. This kind of thing makes me feel kind of sick inside.

Wow just watched this. Very creepy character indeed and played really well. But the creepiness of that guy is evident from the start. Unfortunately, too many psychopaths are not nearly that obvious and aren't realized until the damage has been done.
