"no (sham)poo" movement

I would like to share that I finally found a solution to my shampoo and soap problem. For the past two weeks I've been using plain coconut soap that is sold to wash clothes as both body/face soap and shampoo. It is very cheap, it lasts and it works great for me. And you don't need to use a lot of it, as its "cleaning action" seems to be very good.

However, one must be careful because I tried more than one brand and some are not good. The best one so far is a very cheap one that seems to have no unnecessary chemical additives. The brand I'm using is called Indaiá and it seems that the brand Urca is also plain coconut soap. I do not reccommend the Qualitá brand sold at many supermarkets in Brazil, as it leaves a strange residue on your skin.

By the way, I have acne and some other skin problems and it seems that using just plain coconut soap is helping to clear my skin a little bit. It is no miracle in this regard, but I think it is helping.

As for my hair, I have tried using only conditioner and also some different brands of shampoo but none gave better results than the coconut soap. I think my hair looks as great as it could (which maybe is not that great!).

Maybe others may benefit from pure coconut soap.

PS: I would very much like to make my own coconut soap, but I haven't had the time to prioritize this.

Edit: while we're talking about hygiene, I've been successfully using sodium bicarbonate as tooth paste and deodorant for some months now. I started by mixing sodium bicarbonate with coconut oil but I now use plain sodium bicarbonate. It does not stain your clothes and it helped a lot with my gingivitis.

As you may notice, I really appreciate simple solutions. Maybe occam's razor can be applied here...

Since years I don't use shampoo... usually I use Marseille soap or the soap that my villagers made themselves and it is made with olive oil. Sometimes I used dishwasher soap :O but I don't know if it is as dangerous as a normal shampoo... I never used eggs... I will try it next time.

My hair became oily again, so I started using Ghassoul clay (from Morocco). It worked well, but my scalp became too dry and started itching. I tried rosemary water (once), but the effect was terrible and I had to look presentable. So that was no option. Since then I have started using a mixture of honey and eggs as was suggested in this thread. I thought the honey would produce some sticky stuff, but it turns out to be fine and smells nice. I do not eat honey, nor eggs anymore, so what better use than using it for my hair? :D

I have also found that using the scrubby does not help in my case. I used it for months, but it gave no relief. My scalp is still covered with a layer of sebum. The honey/egg mixture seems to help a bit, but I haven't used it long enough to tell.

Have you tried rinsing your hair with diluted vinegar? It's great for getting out excess oil. You can use apple cider or white vinegar. It doesn't seem to matter.

I've been washing my hair with a solution of baking soda in water (1 tbsp in 1 cup water, in a squirt bottle), then rinsing with the vinegar. The smell is a bit strong, but dissipates very quickly. Some weeks my hair can get a little drier than normal (low humidity climate), so I put a small amount of conditioner diluted with water in a spray bottle and mist it with that till it's pretty damp and comb through. The hair air dries without frizzies! A bonus if you have curly hair.

...
Thanks for that tip, herondancer - I'll give it a go, as my hair is naturally oily.

I`ve learned that using baking soda is good for many things. Washing hair, brushing teeth(with a splash of peroxide) and it also cleans the sink and bathtub! Wallah!...everything gets cleaned!

I'm lazy so I rarely bathe. The last bath I had was in April. (I understand if none of you ever speak to me again.) I don't use shampoo.

I play with my hair a lot, using my fingers. It's a habit. And I scratch my scalp quite often.

They get a little oily that way. But next morning it's back to normal. Maybe the pillow wicks away oil? Maybe sleep rectifies things?

Sometimes wetting my hair a little and letting it dry off helps "reset" my hair. OSIT

Muxel, it is VERY important to bathe regularly, as in every day. This allows you to not only wash away surface toxicity but the water also cleanses you energetically. It is also externally considerate to those you come in contact with every day. Not bathing is not just lazy, it is symptomatic of much deeper issues. Please reconsider your current thought processes on this.

Muxel, have you read Narcissistic Family, and the other psychology books?
This behaviour, your sarcasm and other things that I have noticed that you do and say, point, as Anart says, to deeper issues. Not to derail the thread, but perhaps you may consider to give those books a re-read if you already read them, and look in them for reasons as to why you behave like you do. And keep on doing EE, that I hope you are already doing.
Sorry for hijacking the thread.

After do a research in conditioners I have not found any in the market that can be labeled as "natural" even those that called itself in that way have non "natural" components. The thing is, what is the border between something really natural and something natural minimally processed?. The more basic conditioner have two principal components, almost universal: cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (mild surfactant and softener) and cetyl alcohol (the fatty component, act like a wax) . The last is a part of the whale sperm that can be also obteined from plants. The more sophisticated ones have a lot of additives for give another properties, and I think these additives are the most unhealthy.

I am using each three days a very cheap conditioner without extra additives and I wash a lot. I put in the bottle a teaspoon of castor oil and another of coconut oil. I am using it from three months ago and my hair stop falling, only lost the normal. When it get oily I use a egg yolk and it remove it so effectively! Avoid using the egg white because the hair look dry.

I am trying to make up lotions or creams for selling (I need extra money) the most natural possible but I found out that the only real natural surfactant is lecitin and is not ideal for making lotions or creams. The rest of new "natural" surfactants in the market are combinations of natural molecules non- existent in the nature. I also found out that there are not real effective natural preservatives. The one I liked more is a silver one based.

I was having blocks, blocks to learning and experiencing fully, blocks to taking action. I found that the root was self-importance. It's my Medusa, and I hope to counter it each time it manifests as blockage. I've begun stripping away buffers that I may see the blocks.

Now I bathe "almost" daily. I've missed baths.

I still haven't read the Narcissism books. Yeah, my answers are there, so I'll be getting one of them soon.

I was doing a disappointingly small amount of EE - about once a week. At present, I'd like to do it everyday.

Thanks, anart and Iron.

Just a reminder, if you decide to do it every day, it's best to do the beatha only twice a week. Beatha can bring up a lot of emotional issues if you were to do it every day.

Right, I'll do that, thanks.
