This article is a interesting compilation of all the GMO related stuff and one of the easy TO-DO list is at this link

http://www.responsibletechnology.org/DocumentFiles/144.pdf

I haven't completely read the list yet, to see any other extra filtering needed. Any way, Non-GMO is only one component of bigger picture, still convenient to see every thing in one place.

How to avoid brands made with genetically
modified organisms (GMOs)

Genetic Engineering (GE) or Genetic Modification (GM) of
food involves the laboratory process of artificially inserting
genes into the DNA of food crops or animals. The result is
called a genetically modified organism or GMO. GMOs can be
engineered with genes from bacteria, viruses, insects,
animals, or even humans. Most Americans say they would not
eat GMOs if labeled, but unlike most other industrialized
countries, the U.S. does not require labeling.

This Non-GMO Shopping Guide is designed to help reclaim
your right to know about the foods you are buying, and help
you find and avoid GMO foods and ingredients. It does not
cover other potentially harmful ingredients, allergens,
colors or additives.

Tips for avoiding GM crops

TIP #1: BUY ORGANIC
Certified organic products are not allowed to contain any
GMOs. When the product is labeled “100% organic”, “organic”
“made with organic ingredients,” then even the non-
organic ingredients cannot be produced from GMOs.
For example, products labeled as “made with organic
ingredients” only require 70% of the ingredients to be
organic, but 100% must be non-GMO.

TIP #2: LOOK FOR“NON-GMO” LABELS
Companies may voluntarily label products as “non-GMO.”
Some labels state “non-GMO” while others spell out “Made
Without Genetically Modified Ingredients.” Some products
limit their claim to only one particular “At-Risk” ingredient
such as soy lecithin, listing it as “non-GMO.”

.
TIP #3: AVOID AT-RISK INGREDIENTS

Avoid products made with any of the crops that are GM. Most
GM ingredients are products made from the “Big Four:” corn,
soybeans, canola, and cottonseed, used in processed foods.

Some of the most common genetically engineered Big Four
ingredients in processed foods are:

Corn

¦
Corn flour, meal, oil, starch, gluten, and syrup
¦
Sweeteners such as fructose, dextrose, and glucose
¦
Modified food starch*
Soy

¦
Soy flour, lecithin, protein, isolate, and isoflavone
¦
Vegetable oil* and vegetable protein*
Canola Canola oil (also called rapeseed oil)

Cotton Cottonseed oil

*May be derived from other sources

In addition, GM sugar beet sugar recently entered the food
supply. Look for organic and non-GMO sweeteners, candy and
chocolate products made with 100% cane sugar, evaporated
cane juice or organic sugar, to avoid GM beet sugar.

Sugar Anything not listed as 100% cane sugar

.
TIP #4: BUY PRODUCTS LISTED IN THIS
SHOPPING GUIDE

Keep this Guide with you whenever you shop. Store it inside
your reusable shopping bag, put into your coupon holder or
check book, or leave it in your car.

FRUITS & VEGETABLES

Very few fresh fruits and vegetables for sale in the U.S. are
genetically modified. Novel products such as seedless watermelons
are NOT genetically modified. Small amounts of
zucchini, yellow crookneck squash, and sweet corn may be
GM. The only commercialized GM fruit is papaya from Hawaii—
about half of Hawaii’s papayas are GM.

MEAT, FISH & EGGS

No genetically modified fish, fowl, or livestock is yet approved
for human consumption. However, plenty of non-organic foods
are produced from animals raised on GM feed such as grains.
Look for wild rather than farmed fish to avoid fish raised on
genetically modified feed, and 100% grass-fed animals.

DAIRY PRODUCTS &
ALTERNATIVE DAIRY PRODUCTS

Some U.S. dairy farms inject the genetically engineered
hormone rbGH, also called rbST, into their cows to boost milk
production. Organic dairy products are rbGH-free and do not
use GM grains as feed. Products with a label that indicates
cows free of rbGH or rbST may come from cows fed GM feed.
Many alternative dairy products are made from soybeans and
may contain GM materials.

& SWEETENERS

Many sweeteners, and products like candy and chocolate that
contain them, can come from GMO sources. Look for organic
and non-GMO sweeteners, candy and chocolate products
made with 100% cane sugar, evaporated cane juice or organic
sugar to avoid GM beet sugar, and watch out for soy lecithin in
chocolates and corn syrup in candies.

The sweetener aspartame is derived from GM microorganisms.
It is also referred to as NutraSweet® and Equal® and is found
in over 6,000 products, including soft drinks, gum, candy,
desserts, yogurt, tabletop sweeteners, and some pharmaceuticals
such as vitamins and sugar-free cough drops.

Most juices are made from GMO-free fruit (avoid papaya
though, as it could be GMO), but the prevalence of corn-based
sweeteners—e.g. high-fructose corn syrup—in fruit juices is
cause for concern. Many sodas are primarily comprised of
water and corn syrup. Look for 100-percent juice blends.

SPECIAL NOTE: This guide was compiled based on company statements,
not genetic testing. Any product labeled as Non-GMO indicates
that its manufacturing process is designed to avoid GMOs, but
consumers should be aware that GM contamination is possible due
to natural pollen movement, weather events, seed contamination,
or human error. Hence there is no guarantee such products are
100% free of GMOs.

MARCH 2009 EDITION

First GMO Apples to Hit U.S. Stores in February
http://thomasdishaw.com/2017/01/first-gmo-apples-hit-u-s-stores-february/

Jan 18, 2017 - Add GMO apples to the list of fruit to avoid at the grocery store. According to the Organic Authority, ten “lucky” midwest stores (sense the sarcasm) will test market the genetically modified Golden Delicious apple in early February 2017.

The toxic apple has been genetically modified not to brown for three weeks once sliced. The apples were genetically engineered using a gene silencing technique that reduces the amount of the enzyme polyphenol oxidase (PPO) in the apples, which causes apple flesh to oxidize when exposed to air.

Regrettably, the general public will be left in the dark as to what stores will be selling the first GMO apple. The producer, Okanagan Specialty Fruits, has refused to release the names of the test stores but their CEO released a feel good statement assuring us the midwest wasn’t selected for any particular reason.

Midwestern retailers were chosen for the first sales this winter because they seemed like a good fit demographically and in presence and size, Carter said.

Asked if Midwest consumers may be more accepting of genetically modified apples than those on the East or West coasts, Carter said consumer research didn’t indicate that and that it wasn’t a consideration.

“We don’t want to skew our test marketing results by choosing stores that may be more friendly to genetic engineering,” he said.

Unfortunately, this is just the first wave of GMO apples to hit stores. Granny Smith and Fuji varieties have been approved by the USDA, and the Gala apple is set for approval in 2018.

If you happen to be in the midwest the brand to look out for is “Arctic” and they are produced by Okanagan Specialty Fruits of Summerland, BC. They will come in an innocent looking plastic package and the apples will be pre-sliced. Luckily for us they only produced about 500 forty pound boxes, but expect to produce 6,000 boxes from the 2017 crop.

These numbers won’t even put a dent in the apple market but we as consumers need to reject this product so it doesn’t have a chance to spread across the US market.

While more and more people are becoming educated about the true history of Monsanto and genetically engineered foods, most still don’t realize one extremely important piece of information: the FDA’s surprising lack of safety testing.

FDA Approves New GMO (PINK) Pineapple WITHOUT Independent Safety Testing: Here’s What You Need to Know
http://www.march-against-monsanto.com/fda-approves-new-gmo-pineapple-without-independent-safety-testing-here-is-what-you-must-know/

January 12, 2017 - In regards to GMOs, the FDA’s declaration of “substantial equivalence” means that there is no long-term, independent safety testing of new foods and crops that have been genetically engineered.

When it comes to the forthcoming GMO pineapple, that is once again the case: the FDA has said that Del Monte’s proposed creation is “safe” based solely on information submitted by the company itself. There is a distinct lack of information on long-term potential health effects, however.

The new GMO pineapple has been given a rubber stump, and it could be headed to store shelves. Here’s what you need to know about it.

New “Pink” Pineapple To Be Grown in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is one of the most diverse and natural paradises in the world, but now the country is expected to be the site of the latest GMO experiment: an “extra sweet pink flesh” pineapple.

Here’s how the new pineapple was created according to the FDA:

“Del Monte’s new pineapple has been genetically engineered to produce lower levels of the enzymes already in conventional pineapple that convert the pink pigment lycopene to the yellow pigment beta carotene. Lycopene is the pigment that makes tomatoes red and watermelons pink, so it is commonly and safely consumed.”

According to the company’s information the product is “safe,” but the process itself has many questioning it, wondering if perhaps any unintended consequences will come from “playing God” with such a widely consumed food.

While genetic engineering can be explained simply in a surface way, it also can create unseen changes at a cellular level that the everyday person is not aware of, critics say. When GMOs were originally approved, the FDA ignored its own scientists’ warnings about potential allergens and long-term health concerns.

The FDA and GMO companies disagree with critics on the need for long-term independent safety testing, however.

“(Del Monte) submitted information to the agency to demonstrate that the pink flesh pineapple is as safe and nutritious as its conventional counterparts,” the FDA said according to this report from NBC News.

According to the NBC report, the pineapple will simply be labeled “extra sweet pink flesh pineapple,” suggesting that no special labels showing that it is genetically engineered will be required.
