Nut allergy or Virus?

So last Tuesday I made a pesto with pine nuts which I ate with salmon, I don't usually eat nuts but thought I would try them out, within an hour of eating the food I felt sick and bloated so I took a digestive enzyme, but something didn't feel quite right.

The next day- Wednesday I had severe stomach cramps and had to go to the toilet at work (sorry to be graphic) it was very loose, I ate fat bomb and sausages later that day hoping that it was a one off. The next day I had the same morning bowel movement and had mild diarrhea.

Friday I fasted and had a small dose of sodium ascorbate and ascorbic acid, I didn't feel so bad but was still having sporadic loose bowel movements

Saturday I fasted again and I took a multi vitamin, potassium and l-glutamine and also drank salt water, throughout the morning I drank a mixture of sodium ascorbate and ascorbic acid, by about 1pm I had severe stomach cramps and felt sick, I had diarrhea and had to leave my massage course early as I was feeling really unwell. I spent the evening on the sofa at my Dads, ate some raw garlic and went to bed feeling quite sick.

When I woke up the next day my stomach felt very temperamental and was gurgling and within about an hour I had diarrhea again. When I got home in the afternoon I drank salt water, took l-glutamine, and sipped ascorbic acid. I was going to the toilet every 15-20 minutes and had stomach cramps again.
Later that evening I was feeling hungry so I drank some bone broth and also had a bit of dehydrated mashed potato. I felt quite sick and bloated after this and was still on and off the toilet.

Today I had cramps in the morning, I drank some salt water which seemed to help, then I sipped on some vitamin C water, I still have diarrhea and to be honest I'm totally fed up, drained and have brain fog

There have been some bugs going round at work, but I thought that the nuts had triggered it as I felt sick within an hour of eating them. I haven't got any other symptoms apart from diarrhea, stomach cramps and lethargy. However my tutor at my massage course said yesterday she felt funny and has a dodgy stomach today so I'm unsure if it is a virus and I've passed it on to her.

I'm at a loss as to what to do next, the diarrhea has lasted now for about 4 days... any suggestions would be really appreciated.

I think that rice is generally know to help slow things down. It does sound more like a bug than an allergy.

Coriander is a good treatment for diarrhea. It is necessary to use the dry coriander to treat diarrhea, and in addition to the treatment of diarrhea this plant is rich in minerals, fats, proteins and similar substances that you lost due to diarrhea.

It does sound like a bug. It could have been a bacteria in the salmon?

Taking some probiotics will help. Lactobacillus rhamnosus and sacchormyces boulardii are specially good in normalizing bowel movements when there is diarrhea.

Speedy recovery!

Here in family we took the water of rice, after the rice is a little boiled and the water is white. It works when you have diarrhoea. Hope you are recovering!

Hi Jennifer, sorry to hear those health issues!

It sounds a little like the "bug" I had a few months ago.. diarrhea, indigestion, stomach cramps etc etc.. The only thing I could have was carbohydrates, and taking digestive aids didn't help me at all - it actually made it worse. I stopped the digestive aids, stopped supplementing, stopped eating complex meals and just stuck to carbs. I'd suggest keeping to the carbs, small amounts of meat maybe, Vit C and "stomach easing" teas like peppermint oil etc. It also helped me when I would chew raw Ginger, or drink lemon water in the morning.

Hopefully it subsides soon, I know the "fed up" feeling!
Wishing you the fastest of recoveries :) :hug2:

Yeah. Instant mashed potatoes are also good for these sorts of things.

Are you taking any iodine? Since it sounds like a bug of some sort, it might be worth trying that, possibly even a higher dose for nuking, and see if that takes care of it.

Either way, it sounds like going easy on your digestion is in order until things get settled again.

I hope you feel better soon! :flowers:

Thanks guys for all your replies, I ate some instant mash for lunch and then had some rice later on, I haven't been to the toilet since so it's obviously done something, I'm feeling a little better in myself as well which is good

I'll take a pro-biotic later before bed thanks Gaby

No I haven't started the protocol yet as I've got a few chapters left to read of Brownstein's book and then some of the thread to catch up on, I didn't really want to start something that I hadn't properly researched, thank you for the suggestion though :)

I'll try and keep this really brief,

Since my last post I finished the iodine book and started iodine, I was taking co factors and also salt water and vit c, did a few days of 10 drops, 12.5% but backed off when I felt abit fluey, had a day off and then back on three drops. I noticed mild improvements with my diarrhea but I didn't want to "nuke" it for took long in case I had bad detox reactions.

I've had diarrhea now about 17 days, I started supplementing with colostrum and taking a probiotic before bed which seemed to help and the past three days I have had less frequent bowel movements. I've had one stool sample done which didn't show up anything, I've recently submitted two more and also had a blood test done today to see if they can identify anything. Hopefully the blood tests will show something, I'm thinking it's a virus that I've either still got, or has gone but I'm left with inflammation so my digestive system is really sensitive.

I've had cravings for fat so have been introducing it again but this seems to be too much too soon for my body. As I was feeling slightly better the other day I ate some beef stew with instant mash and today ate some avacado and sausages with mash, I've had cramps and bloating all afternoon with frequent trips to the toilet. I think for now I'll just stick to soluble fibres like the instant mash.

I'm trying to see WHY this is happening, Louise Hay says diarrhea is Fear, Rejection, Running off, I have also been very reluctant to read the diet and health information in the past so maybe it's highlighting gaps in my awareness.

On the plus side my (albeit small) suffering has led to me researching more about health and how I can get better which is a good thing. I noticed with the Iodine I've had an increased interest and ability to learn and share information.

I don't really know what I'm asking for in this post I guess I just want to update and get it off my chest because I'M SICK OF THIS SICKNESS! Although it's not debilitating it's just plain annoying, my mood has been ok, but today I've been especially lethargic and emotionally drained :umm:

Hi Jennifer, again I'm sorry you're going through this! I know exactly how you feel. I honestly had pretty much the same "virus" for 2-3 weeks and the cramping/ indigestion pains were awful (especially in work!) Mine went away on it's own, I'm pretty certain it was definitely a bug of some sort. I had blood tests too, but nothing came up, I was adamant it was something that could be identified but the doctors where a big fat NO help.

Don't lose hope, it will pass! (hopefully) You could be feeling a little different today emotionally because you introduced Iodine a few days ago. You're bound to feel fed up and upset, tired etc if you're sick! Being ill makes everything worse, just try listening to your body and giving it some rest. Take a long bath and be more kind to your sick body maybe? I know I tried to "listen" to my gut when I was like this, but it's hard. Do try and stick to real simple meals (that's hard too) but if you ate all that and it didn't agree, then I'd stick to simplicity.

I'm stuck on what advice to give you, because you've been doing so much already and I'm hoping it subsides soon! :hug2: Wishing you a fast recovery Jennifer!

Not a bad day's work, Jennifer :flowers:

Bug related diarrheas can trigger IBS symptoms. It can take some weeks before your gut stabilizes, but I think you're doing good.

If your probiotic doesn't have saccaromyces boulardii, then it would it be a good idea to get it. It does help when there is diarrhea.

Hope you'll feel better soon.

Where the sausages gluten free? There can also be a lot of fat in sausages fwiw

Thanks Lilyalic I think I was just having a bit of a moan wanting it to be fixed...

Yeah I think I went to the Doctor's wishfully thinking I'd get some answers and then was disappointed when nothing came back it's annoying because at least if you knew what you were fighting then you could maybe do more- idk.

I've been on the Iodine for about 10 days on and off now, I didn't notice any big emotional reactions to start with even though I was taking big doses, but I guess it could be that that's making me a bit low.

Thanks for the info Gaby, it doesn't have that in so I'll order one that does :)
