Nut allergy or Virus?

Hey Jennifer, I was just thinking about this!

How are you doing? Has it improved?? I hope it has!

I was just going to post actually  I wanted to report that after 4-5 days of taking 10g colostrum on an empty stomach in a glass of water every morning and the probiotic Gaby suggested every night, my system is nearly back to normal as long as I don't eat too much fat!

I think I ate too much fatbomb yesterday and had some cramps today, although after seeing Laura's post about allergy testing results and egg yolks being one of the most reactive for alot of people maybe I'm experiencing a reaction, I often find that I get stomach pains and phlegm after fatbomb but ignored it in the past because I love fatbomb :violin:. Achieving health is definitely not easy and takes super efforts, my knowledge in this department is seriously lacking!

Weird!...
I'm so glad you're feeling better now :D, there's nothing better than when you've overcome something that was such a pain!
I'm sure you're thrilled.. and yeah maybe that list of reactions could have caused your upsets too, hmm...

Onwards and upwards! :scooter:

I am so relieved !! My stool sample and blood tests came back all clear- so I'm not any closer to knowing what was going on. They booked me in for a follow up blood test next month because apparently my white blood cell count was low.

There is a terrible stomach virus going around, I'm in California in the mojave desert, so many people I know got it. It's terrible for children with low immune systems. Bentonite clay is the only this that has helped those around me with the bug. It solidifies everything. I wouldn't take to many supplements, especially on an empty stomach. Magnesium and vitamin C, can give you lose stools, that's why it's great for keto/paleo, but not so much when you have a bug. I would try slow cook stews and soups, with meat and veggies, bone broth, potatoes can be soothing. Slippery elm, can soothe the digestive track. Coconut water is a life saver when it comes to diarrhea, it stops it, and replenishes electrolytes. Easy on fat and salt water, also has laxitive effects. I hope you feel better. It's a miserable bug going around.

Thank you Desertwolves, I'm feeling much better now and my stools are back to normal now so I won't have the chance to test out the bentonite clay, although I'll keep it in mind if I ever have this issue again :) I'm in the UK but others at my work are suffering from various things at the moment so it seems there's definitely some nasty things going round

In regards to taking supplements on an empty stomach, I read that it was more beneficial to take colostrum in this way, this briefly explains why
The goal is to have colostrum reach the small intestine intact where it does its best work. It is very important to take colostrum capsules on an empty stomach with lots of water to aid its transit into the upper intestine.

bulkcolostrum.com
The first best time to take it is on an empty stomach at bedtime. This is when the body releases its own highest levels of growth factors for the purpose of body repairs while you sleep, so this mimics the body's own patterns.

The next highest release is upon awaking, so this is the second best time to take it. Many people take it twice a day, am and pm.

And this site goes into a little more detail
There is one recommendation that is always true. For maximum effectiveness, colostrum should be taken with 8-12 ounces of water. This prevents a heartburn-like sensation and helps wash the colostrum through the stomach into the first part of the small intestine. The small intestine is one of the most important sites upon which colostrum and its key components have their effect. Taking it on an empty stomach will increase the amount of colostrum and its key components that interact with the intestinal lining. Food may compete with colostrum for binding sites in the intestines.

I am often asked the question of what to do if it is not possible to arrange to take colostrum 1/2 hour before meals or two hours after meals. Based on personal experience and that of several individuals who have done the same, I have found that taking the colostrum just before meals seems to have no noticeable reduction in colostrum's effectiveness. It is definitely better, however, to take the colostrum just as you are starting to prepare the meal. Taking the colostrum just after eating seems to slightly decease its effectiveness. Specifically, the increased energy level and mental alertness tend to be less and last a shorter time. Taking an extra one to two capsules of colostrum later in the afternoon many times off sets any loss of energy or mental alertness caused by taking the colostrum with food

Although this site is about giving it to horses  the advice seems to be the same

When should you give colostrum?

Colostrum is best taken on an empty stomach. It is made up of large protein chains, which are designed to pass through the stomach and be released in the small intestines. As we know it can be difficult to feel your horse on a schedule such as this, but when there is food in the stomach, it may not be as adequately digested and food in the intestinal tract can compete with the colostrum for binding sites, making it not as effective as with an empty stomach.
