so, at least some people are "liking this" there is some hope after all.

The reports say that Bin Laden was actually killed about a week ago by a bomb in Pakistan, and the time taken to confirm his identity via DNA testing helped delay the news.

So, no body! Who's surprised? :P

Sorry, I'll clarify, I'm guessing that since reports say he was killed by a bomb, the cover for Bin Laden not dying ten years ago from his kidney disease will be that his body was destroyed by the bomb, but they have the DNA (and they are matching it with who's DNA?).

They (NBC) actually said after the firefight Bin Laden was shot once in the head.

Edit: added NBC was the source

I am thinking Obama is preparing the grounds for a new bad guy into the scene, and could it be that this new bad guy would make an entrance with an attack? Also, as a side shot, the 2012 elections are near too...

The timing of the announcement being during Trumps show is interesting. It must be the beginning of the Obama's war on the Donald.

True, not having captured Bin Laden is no longer a campaign issue. Had the announcement come closer to the election, might have been perceived as 'rigged'.

Ah. A Slashdot summary said that he was killed by a bomb, but ABC reports he was killed in a firefight.

My theory is that they want to start moving the troops out of Afghanistan and possibly Iraq, so that they can start moving them to Libya. The new bad guy is Gadahfi now.

Just heard the speech. Long on appeal to emotion. Rah-rah for America. Touches all the nerves of 9/11. Its like re-awakening 9/11. Makes me nervous. Rallying all this emotion could be used for cover and preparation for many things, none of them good. Wonder what's coming next.

Those were my thoughts too when I heard it.

We may never know the actual reason why they decided to "kill him" now.

a) Obama's approvals ratings are down and election is coming
b) Osama's usefulness is over. He has been "overused" already, so people are tired of it. Now they can come up with a new villian.
c) Further destabilize Pakistan and justify continued attacks there with drones and CIA Contract killers.
d) All of this could be a big distraction for something else in the works.

As C's would say " Keep you eyes and ears open ".

Could be, Deedlet. If the official story holds, it seems like they could spin this however they want. For example:

- We killed him! We're making progress. Now let's finish the job. It won't take long, really...
- We killed him! Let's declare victory and get out.
- We killed him! Now let's go get the next bad guy (Moammar Gadhafi, Bashar al-Assad, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong Il, etc.)

I broke my TV rule to hear what two of the main propaganda organs (CNN and Fox) are saying. In 20 minutes, the main themes I heard were:

1) American military and intelligence capabilities remain very strong, and US forces will go anywhere to "bring justice to" (read: assassinate) enemies of the state.

2) This is a victory that unites all Americans [i.e. "War is a force that gives us meaning..."]

3) The US is already bracing for reprisals -- see the State Department's worldwide travel warnings to all American citizens. [Are new, more oppressive security measures to come, perhaps after a "reprisal"?]

4) Turns out Obama is a strong president after all... [This from CNN. Fox, meanwhile, spent more time praising the military and CIA]

5) The American "operators" were very careful to minimize civilian casualties ["We only kill the bad guys, promise!"]

6) Pakistan hasn't been playing ball...

Like others upthread, I too thought Osama had been dead for some time. I wonder what evidence we will see that he died more recently.

The White House is having a special news conference starting in a few minutes to announce that 'Osama bin Laden is dead'....

Wonder what the story be on how he died (ten years ago...) - and why tonight?

Keep on ice, until ready to serve. Must not leave any one alive, that could expose the truth! But which one did they get?

In Finland(Uusi Suomi):
- "Yhdysvaltain kansalaisten tulisi seurata lehdistön raportteja paikallisista tapahtumista ja olla varuillaan koko ajan, ulkoministeriö varoittaa."
which roughly translated amounts to; the american citizens should follow the (ms)media bs-reports closely(and why not You too, nonamerican, who are reading this) and act accordingly and remember to be afraid very afraid... allways and everywhere.

Edit: IMO this is the last "gear" forcibly shoved in before "timewarp"...
