Occupy Wall Street Video Project

Cyre2067

The Living Force
Hey all, since there's more then a handful of us in the NYC area, I thought it'd be cool to put together a Occupy Wall Street video, or a series of videos, giving the protesters a voice and a chance to explain who they are and what they want. It doesn't have to be long, and in fact, I think a series of short videos is probably better. My idea was to get personal stories from different protesters and share them online... kinda like what i did here: _http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHOnX63h9b0 except with better audio quality and maybe some clever editing like this one _http://vimeo.com/30778727.

Some points I think are important to focus on are:
1.) Diversity, ethnic as well as philosophical
2.) Personal nature of the protest
3.) Cooperation/Pro-social way of life that happens down there
4.) Psychopathy in Politics, what they think about it

Just throwing it up here for some feedback before I actually go off half-cocked. Thanks.

Thanks Puck for putting up the thread.

The reference video _http://vimeo.com/30778727 is the one I shared as well on FB and which I like very much too.
It has been shot with the same kind of equipment I just purchased (HD DSLR Video) that gives you the beautiful film look with short depth of field.
That video has also been posted on the official OWS site here _http://occupywallst.org/ (scrawl down)and got almost 100K views in 6 days.

I am currently completing to get all the equipment I need this week including pro-audio which is half the deal. I also have a "Final Cut Pro" editing suite but I am not an editing-operator. If there is one a group member in the NYC area that is skilled in operating "Final Cut Pro" raise your hand please.
If there isn't one we'll have to find one.

Interviewing people on OWS is great but we should also interview group members in the area (as many as possible) to talk about psychopathy and ponerology in context with OWS. Just because they have better knowledge which wants to be shared. The fact that "other people" already know about psychopathy and ponerology should make the rest more curious to look into it.

Yes we can do little videos and upload them on youtube/vimeo but we also can do a longer piece. One does not exclude the other while we are editing anyway.

I am hoping to get the gear together for this weekend and will keep you posted.

That sounds like a great idea! in Canada some major cities have what are called media co-ops that key you sign in and post footage and articles and stuff, and I'm thinking that there must be something similar in the united states, given that its even moreso a hotbed of activism at the moment. Good on your helping to take back the media :)

I think this is a wonderful idea, Puck and Fifth Way. It could be a fantastic way to spread the word, and especially now that the OWS movement is attracting the attention of a lot of people, even people that usually wouldn't be at all interested in any kind of protesting. I've actually been surprised at how most people seem to be very supportive of the movement, at least so far.

Keep us posted!

I'll second that. Great idea!

Hello All,

I am in touch with a lady who is or is closely associated with the organizers of the movement in Manhattan. Her name is Natalie, and she's agreed to help in any way she can.

If this project is still a 'go', then I'll forward her information to you!

It's great to see people sharing info on psychopathy out there, Puck! Thanks for videotaping those women. I'm reposting on FB!

We went down with three forum members to #OWS on sunday to test out my new gear. We shot one interview and some pick up shots just see if the technology would work. I looked at and listen too it yesterday night. It worked fine and came out great. I have yet to figure out how to edit it. But one of my regular editors will come over on Thursday to show me the basics, so I can do it myself.

We are still a bit away from "delivering" finished material. One step at a time :cool2:

This was written for a very mainstream publication, fwiw...

4 demands

Send a Clear Message.
In a culture of greed corruption and exploitation, Occupy Wall Street is a logical reaction. Watching the internet video of the cop macing a gaggle of college girls really demonstrates the extent of our free speech in this country. And then in juxtaposition, listening to Obama and Hillary Clinton make speeches about the brave and righteous populous in Egypt speaking truth to power and exercising their right to free speech. The hypocrisy and disconnect is astounding. If the crimes like bribery, insider trading, market manipulation, along with the blatant disregard for regulatory structure as well as government influence were at all visible to the public, hell, Occupy Wall Street would look more like Greece and Libya. But so far so good; hang in there until the numbers get really huge. But as some point it might be a good strategy to come up with some specific demands, like:
Break the monopolies. The arrogance of “too big to fail” gives license to exploit and get paid for it. Being fed to the dogs would serve the common good. Eat the rich. Taxing the criminals in the industry or just taking only 0.1 percent of each trade would not only pay us back, but it would ease the deficits. Then, limit campaign spending. Eliminate public money for private lobbying. And decentralize government down to local municipalities. Stalin said, “Capitalism is nothing more than corporate fascism.” Was he spot on or what?
Next, here is a suggestion from Matt Taibbi. “… repeal the preposterous and indefensible carried-interest tax break, (loophole) which allows hedge fund titans … to pay only 15 percent on their billions … while ordinary Americans pay twice that for teaching kids and putting out fires.”
Finally, and I had no idea about this until I did some research. Did you know that WS executives get obscene bonuses upfront for deals that could be detrimental to everyone? These people are essentially getting paid to destroy huge companies like AIG and Bank of America. I want someone to pay me to fail. If Occupy Wall Street or Occupy Denver can do that, then we could show Obama what hope and change is really all about.

The video of our very first outing is up on YouTube here:

Check it out and feel free to share it on FB etc.

So now, as we know technology works fine we can strategize to make more little clips... :D :D

Indeed great work! Maybe adding some music in the background and streamline it a bit more would be a suggestion, but I know that it is a lot of work and time consuming. As said:
