Based on what I've read on the topic, olive oil can be used for this as well. If you'd like to try it out, I think using a good quality oil is important.

From what I know, if you want good quality, don't store olive oil in the light, at a warm place or keep it in plastic. (especially plastic can be harmfull but not everyone agrees)

About the oil pulling practice,it is my experience that in order to be sustained one needs to make it as pleasant as possible: olive oil is just OK,coconut oil is nice but watch out for drain clogging,you may try sunflower oil with drops of your favorite essential oil...
For convenience, cost ,and less mess, I have been using warm water with a small amount of oil,swish around,the hydraulic effect powers just fine the fewer molecules of oil
