Opened mail

Over at this end of the world, I always make it a point to look at parcels or envelopes that I receive to see if they have been tampered with and so far don't seem to have noticed anything unusual. However there was one incident that I remember very well.

The customs people called me up and told me that they had a parcel of mine with them and they wanted to charge me tax on it. I explained to them the contents of the parcel and they then asked if they could open it and verify the contents to which I agreed. They apparently did so and called me back a few minutes later and told me that no tax will be levied and the parcel will be delivered to me as soon as possible.

When the parcel reached me and knowing that it had been opened by customs, I looked very carefully at the envelope and was quite surprised that I could not tell where they had opened it. I used a magnifying lens to see and yet I couldn't see where the envelope was tampered with. So presumably if "they" wanted to, you could not be able to detect the tampering or at least it wouldn't be so obvious. :)

It's been in the news recently that discussion is underway about whether or not USPS will end Saturday service.

Another thing happened later today after I initially started this thread -- a couple books I had ordered from Amazon (Detoxification and Healing, and Fulcanelli's Le Mystere de les Cathedrales) showed up, and the top flap had been opened up halfway. Nothing was missing or damaged, but it didn't really seem like something that would just happen due to rough handling.

I had an almost identical experience. I purchased a handful of the books from the recommended reading list and all of them arrived together except for one. It was delayed (Additional processing time) and when i received the package it had obviously been opened and then re-sealed with regular scotch tape. Only time i've ever had a package arrive from Amazon like that. At the time i didn't think much of it but i'll be on the lookout for any more funny business with packages.

I've had mail in the past that seemed that either had not been properly sealed or had been tampered with.
In one case, an insurance bill would come each mouth in days of writing checks they would send me a bill. They always included a free envelope to mail the months remittance's to them. And like fool, I had and always done, would lick the envelope shut.
When I licked the envelope this time, it seemed that a residue was left on my tough. There was a chemical change as in the past as of the taste to the glue that had been applied to the sending envelope, as if it had been altered. As if with a speed or a drug.
I remember sensing that after licking the envelope that I felt weird and wired. The sensation would last the rest of the afternoon, making me feel very uncomfortable as if altered. Like I had been chemically altered with licking of that envelope.
From that point on would I use a sponge to apply the necessary moisture to the sealing of document's an never again lick a stamp or envelope .
It was also at time with a land line, home phone, that there was something or some monitoring of phone calls, clicking sounds, and dropped calls when in contact with certain people in the discussion of events around the area I was living at at that time!

The only time I can recall anything like that happening in my household's mail was when an important letter (some bill or business correspondence, I think) was completely ripped open at the bottom, except other than that everything was in order. It might have just been some fluke on part of the post office machine, but you never know. Never noticed any clicking noises in the phone, either.

Has this been happening to letters delivered to the SOTT Team's PO Box in Boulder? I don't put a return address on my letters, so I have no idea whether the money I've been sending gets there intact or not. I'd be grateful if someone could check up on that in his or her free time. Thank you. :)

No, we haven't had any obvious issues with mail tampering up to this point, though, if mail is missing there is no way to know that, since we'd be unaware it was missing! To my knowledge, your letters have been received zlyja. :)

That's good to know. Thanks for checking, anart! I'll be sure to get in a donation as soon as I can. :)

It's been a couple of years, and this is still going on -- the only difference is that these days, there's often a little tear at the bottom that looks just big enough to stick an oscilloscope through. My neighbor also had a package arrive from Amazon recently that had been opened up at one end, although nothing was missing. Not particularly surprising, but it's been pretty blatant lately -- are other people out there still noticing this?

Well, i cooperate with a guy i doing analysis of his video footage in my spare time. He said he mailed a video to me a few weeks back, but it hasn't arrived, his first one did though.

On a side note, i do get those calls where the phone rings, i answer and as soon as i say hello, they hang up, they use a variety of phone lines as my caller id has indicated blocked #'s, 800s, etc.

Just weird really, doesn't mean much to me though, just bored pranksters i reckon. ;)

A lot of times this can be due to the excessive telemarketing industry. The computers are always dialing numbers, but do not connect to a live operator until after it hears a human voice say 'hello' (so it doesn't waste time and money on answering machines). But, when it reaches more people than it has available operators, this will result in a long silent delay or hang-up, or so I've read before. Also, many of the calls are being routed via international call centers these days, and thus are likely more error prone I would also guess.

Often times, when the caller id does come through, you can type it into Google, and find out which company was calling you on one of the telemarketing monitor sites. Signing up for the Do Not Call list can also help with this.

Another possibility, and I don't know if anybody still does this, but back in the day 'war-dialing' was popular amongst hackers and wannabe hackers. This involves using your computer to dial *every* phone number in any given area and listen for data carrier signals to make a list. To a person answering, this would just sound like silence, followed by the click of the modem disconnecting.

Yes this is still going on here too. I received a package from Amazon a week ago that had obviously been opened. The tape was torn open on one side with a gap big enough to put your hand through. One of the receipts was scrunched up in the corner of the box like someone had taken it out and just pushed it back in without bothering to fold it again. They obviously weren't trying to hide anything.

HELLO Everybody,
Long time lurker, short time poster.I dint post very often for a number of reasons, but this revived thread had me thinking.I have a lot of trouble with the usps myself.I have even had registered mail never arrive even tho it was shown to have been delivered.I sometimes get packages thru the mail. They either arrive or they don't.My last problems with usps was in Jan this year,I had ordered 2 spare batteries for my phone from amazon which shipped from 2 different distributors. On the first attempt neither package arrived. On the second try 1 was shipped registered mail,it made it,the second package was reshipped by regular mail it still didnt make it.So I notified the shipper of the non delivery, they resent this time registered mail, the package arrived empty,(now what does somebody want with all those batteries???)So I notified them again this time the shipper was starting to give me a hard time about this,I can understand why to,but I wasnt getting what I paid for,so they shipped it out again by ups a lousy 4 dollar battery lol,lo and behold it arrived on time and intact.I notified the shipper of the delivery and thanked them for their patience in this matter.
Also I am a novice astronomer,So I subscribed to a subscription to astronomy magazine,it is shipped in a plain see thru plastic envelope,3 times it has been opened in 2 years the contents where always there, but the packages where opened and resealed with scotch tape.Kinda makes me wonder also whats up with the usps.
I live several hundred miles from my 2 daughters whom I finished raising after their mother moved out on us,they are really my step daughters, but they will be my Daughters forever,I even have 3 beautiful grand children, whom I love very much.SO anyways I try to remember to send out birthday cards or just hello I love you card to them once in a while. They are out on their own now at this point. But wouldnt you know it,sometimes even the birthday cards just go poof into the thin air never to be seen again. If I ever want to send them cash I always use a wire service with no problems.
But the USPS mail forget about it,they are crooks and thieves Im thinking, and Im getting tired of my packages and letters not making it.
Maybe it is time for the USPS to go belly up and get restructured or something.Kinda makes you wonder who they are hiring to have this happen like it does?

Sorry about the rant but it is happening more then ppl think it is,just nobody really puts publicly Im thinking, till now :)
Good Luck all with the mail system.Oh and now the internet isnt even safe jeesh whats a person to do........
