Ive just finished reading this thread and now have no choice but to look in the face of my own problem and admit to what Ive known deep inside all along. A serious detriment to my own spiritual growth. I have not spoken of this before, but I have been on suboxone for 4 years now, It all started as heroin addiction at 16, I am now 23. In between those years- I cannot even begin to explain the damage Ive done. I recently stopped the subs for 6 days and relapsed on day 7. It is now day 10. I just felt i needed to be honest with the group seeing as i havent disclosed this before. I understand how crucial it is to be rid of opiates for the rest of my life, for I know this will be a lifelong struggle. Luckily I am still very young and I will not and cannot put this off a day longer. Thanks all....

I can imagine that it probably wasn't easy for you to share this here, and I think it's a very good step that you've opened up to us, Delizco. Addiction is a difficult struggle, and along with what truth seeker said, one that is shared by us all in some way or another, but it can be done and we sure are rooting for you! Along that line, as suggested, I agree that looking for good professional support will make this task much easier. And Gabor Maté's book is definitely a very helpful must-read, highly recommended.

In our struggle to overcome them, we will fall back. While this is easier said than done, what matters most is that we keep getting up.

Exactly, that's the most important thing. Just as illustrated in this quote, even though it's from a movie:

Alfred Pennyworth: "Why do we fall, Mr. Wayne? - So we can learn to pick ourselves up."

Others here succeeded to overcome their addictions as well and I think we all are also very optimistic that you can do it too!

Indeed, and keep us posted. :hug2:

Thank you all so much..and I apologize for the late reply, haven't been as engaged in the group as I would've liked to have been, it would've been beneficial- the past couple of months have no doubt been hard, and I still have a long way to go, but doing well nonetheless :) Will definitely check out the threads . Thanks again!
